The Yankee fanbase truly are a bunch of dolts.
I really can't believe you Yankee fans haven't learned by now. Throwin money and big names at the problem, doesn't fix it.
Why would this upset us so? I heard this same line when the Yanks landed Arod, Giambi, Abreu, Damon, Sheffield, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens (2nd time), Mussina, Kevin Brown, etc, etc.
Once again, the Yankees go into the year as the team to beat on paper and in Vegas, just as they have the last 8 seasons, and every year we get a list of excuses come Octobter.
Excuse me for learning my lesson and not acting like not getting Mark Texeira is the end all

Try to mask your disappointment a little better. The guy is a stud 1st baseman that was highly coveted by The Angels, Sox and Yankees. Not only do we plug a hole at 1st base, but we keep him from our main competitors in the AL. Bottom line is Big Papi doesn't havbe any protection and probably won't go to Manny to fill that hole.
By the way, this guy is not a Randy Johnson, Clemens or Kevin Brown because he's entering the prime of his career. When the others came to NY, they were DONE. The same cannot be said for Teixera.

Well, at least you don't cherrypick.
Were Mussina, Giambi, Arod, Damon, Matsui, Vazquez, and Abreu "done", or were they in their prime?
How'd this group of bloated contracts work out in the championship department?

Ok - here we go -
A-Rod was a trade that we gave up a near equivalent player in Soriano. Since coming to NY, A-Rod has won 2 MVPs and has produced overall. You cannot argue his stats.
Vasquez and Abreau were also trades giving up someone like Nick Johnson. Again, Abreau has been productive for his role on getting on base and producing runs.
The rest of the crew were free-agent pickups but none had the numbers that Teixera brings except Giambi. Giambi, as we all know, was involved in steriods and broke down frequently. No one has heard anything like that with Teixera. Mussina was an above-average pitcher, but not certainly not a shut-down pitcher.
Matsui, by the way, is probably traded by spring training to get rid of his contract.
You maybe right - there could be busts among the signings that we have had. Don't forget though that the youth will be a big part of the coming seasons. Cano, Wang, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, etc. will take on greater roles for championship #27.

Arod has been a zero in the postseason. For a guy who's the highest paid player in the game, that's part of your expectations.
What "greater roles" could Cano and Wang take on? One was your #1 pitcher, who's also a zero in the clutch, and the other is your lazy starting second baseman.
Hughes and DWI I agree with.
Kennedy sucks, he'd be decent on the Gianys or Brewers.

The greater roles lie in improved performance. Cano is not a .271 hitter. He will likely improve upon that and hit above .300 as he has in all his prior years. Wang is coming of the DL and is a proven winner. One tough playoff series does not make him a "zero in the clutch" as you claim. Cabrera is better than he showed last year. He has to step up this year.
Plus, you can expect more from Joba, Kennedy and Hughes. You cannot give up on prospects like Kennedy after some adversity. Prospects bounce back and its up to him to do that at this point.

As happy as I am about this signing, this is getting ridiculous.
The MLB needs to establish some kind of salary cap.
Allowing team owners to just throw money at players is ruining the game.
But anyways...

Somewhere I read some MLB manger stated a good point. He said something along the line that MLB owners don't b!tch when they cash the Yankees luxury tax check they get. I think it will be very hard to have a salary cap in baseball. If team like the Rays can build a winner anyone else can, so a salary cap is moot.

I was just going through some old topics and came across this one. Good to see comments nearly a year later.
The guy blended in the clubhouse like a glove and his defense was off the charts. Teixeira's signing was, as I expected, a big deal and helped bring championship #27 home.

Glad this topic was brought to the top since I missed it back then.
When you insult a fanbase, you insult a good portion of the posters on this board.
Makes sense now why you chose to vent in the Yankees/Phillies thread as Red Sox fan and NOT play that game as Ranger fan taunting isles fans but your colors are slowly being shown.
Infact the spectrum is too bright to ignore.
If you want to join in and debate, discuss, laugh and share some stuff with everyone on here, please continue.
But if you have an agenda to just stir things up slowly branch out into insults (underneath that guise of being a sports fan wanting to get a different perspective)...
then perhaps you'd be more happy visiting a Rangers message board (if aren't already a member there) here:
http://eastcoastsportsfans.com/index.php?act=idx(watch out, they're yankees fans too.)
or
how about a Red Sox board???

I have read the topics on other sports and have seen much criticism of the Yankee$ and their fans, but I get called out because I'm a Rangers fan? Seems like you are the one with the agenda searching older posts for ammo.
I do not like the Islanders but respect them and their fans. I have zero respect for the current Yankee machine because of their methods. I do respect the Yankee past however.
I visit many boards for many reasons as I have said before. I have always been repectful to the NY Islanders and their fans being that this is an Islanders board. However, I do not believe I have to be held to a different standard because of my allegience to a different team in a different sport.
Again, my opinions and thoughts about the NY Yankee$, their FO, and their fanbase in no way is a reflection of my viewpoints of the NY Islanders and their fans other than the fact that I don't cheer for them.
What's next? My taste is music will be questioned because of whom I like in hockey? ;)

That's not fair - I am the one that revived an old thread, not Steve.
You have posted here before and have been respectful for the most part. I think what Steve is getting at is do not call fans of another team "dolts" like you did in your original post.
All I am saying is: its nice to take a look back a year later and see that Teixeira was a big acquisition like I originally thought. He was huge just on defense alone -something not seen in these parts since Tino.

I suspected it a couple months ago when nypd started arguing with people in THE SWEEP THREAD. Now its official.

This is a message board about sports, bery minute when looking at the big picture. My feelings do not get hurt because of what someone thinks of me or what they post. I was just looking for a level playing field from other adults.

Furthermore, you don't pay much attention to baseball if you think that hitting wins you championships. Just look at the Yankee$ futility this century up until this year. They've had the bats in the past, this year they had the starters.\
Manny and Papi were huge in 04 & 07. However, we won because of pitching. Beckett, Schilling, Pedro, DLowe, Lester, Foulke, Paps, etc.

stone, you seem to be the one baiting and trolling here. To be honest with you, I've seen some pretty immature posts from you and give your critique/criticism with zero creedence.
As far as the Zimmer/Pedro things goes, Zimmer was 100% wrong which was why he apologize to everyone after the game. No matter what happens, a coach NEVER EVER has the right to attack a player, no matter their age or physical fitness, and vice-versa.
Zim, while old and fat, is a big guy and a former professional athlete. If he takes a swing and hits Pedro in teh nose or face, he's going to break something and he'd be out for a while. Pedro did not punch or kick the guy, he threw him to the ground and stepped away, which I think was the most conservative option.
stone, if Zim charged you with the intent to hit you, what would you do? I think I'd do exactly what Pedro did. Leave your partiality out of the answer.

I don't get it why would a Rag$ fan join this site for any other reason except for trolling.
I suspected it a couple months ago when nypd started arguing with people in THE SWEEP THREAD. Now its official.
I find it highly offensive how you just called me a dolt. Really? I haven't found the past 5-6 years so successful for us. Either first round knock outs or missing the playoffs.
And yes, referring to a post you left in the WS thread, you are winning 2*-1 this century.
*- Manny and Papi (your entire team) was juicing up. |
and the Yankees weren't? Clemens, Pettite, Sheffield, Giambi, Leyritz are the only ones we know of...oh and ARoid. Let's not act like the 96-02 Yankee teams were clean, or any team in the 90's or 00's for that matter.

| stone, you seem to be the one baiting and trolling here. To be honest with you, I've seen some pretty immature posts from you and give your critique/criticism with zero creedence.

I disagree. I have no problem with what Zimmer did. He felt Pedro was throwing at heads and if anyone knows the dangers of that, its Don Zimmer. I have not a single problem with what he did.
I also have no problem with what Pedro did. He defended himself against a charing opponent. Plain and simple and he could have done much more damage to Zim if he wanted.
It isn't like that was the first yanks-Sox brawl and I so love each and every one of them whether it is Spaceman Lee getting clocked or Zim becoming a weeble-wobble.
If ya can't take the heat...don't throw punches or throw at heads.

Trolling is when you like a different team, join a website of your rival team, and leave negative posts about the team.
I nearly died laughing "keep your partiality out of the answer". Look whos talking!
Okay, 2*-1

If you want to join in and debate, discuss, laugh and share some stuff with everyone on here, please continue. But if you have an agenda to just stir things up slowly branch out into insults (underneath that guise of being a sports fan wanting to get a different perspective)... then perhaps you'd be more happy visiting a Rangers message board (if aren't already a member there) here:
|
My taste is music will be questioned because of whom I like in hockey? ;)
|
Yes. Your music sux too ;)
Seriously though, a Red Sox fan crying about "the Yankees methods"? They are one and the same. They both spend outrageously. both set the market on FA signings. Both we are finding out got their steroids from a guy in the Mets clubhouse. Boo frigging hoo.
I'm a Mets fan and while I hate the Yankees because of the Steinbrenners and their many fans who call up wfan and think they should have the best player in baseball at every position by divine right (Hey Mikey...how about we we trade Robinson Cano and our bat boy for Rogers Horsby, Johnny Bench, that pitcher who just won Cy Young in KC. He'll just waste away there so he should be here anyway".- That is a typical call and attitude of a Yankees fan)
Regardless...the org did nothing wrong by outspending the GDP of Rhodesia this season just as the RedSox did nothing wrong when they outspent the GNP of Bangladesh to win their titles.
|
But if you look at brass tax (no pun intended), the Sox have consistently been $60-$80 million below the Yankee$.
They are in the same ocean, but not the same boat.
|
so what. That's like arguing the Soviets weren't a world power because they couldn't match the US military spending. They still could blow up the world. Now, because they outspend even the Sox, they are the bad guys?
Let's not act like the Sox aren't over the lux tax number as well as the Yankees. The Yankees just don't see any limit to how far over they go. It doesn't violate any rules of the league.
Now, if you want to argue about if it is good for baseball and if there should be a hard cap, that is another issue and many arguments can be made on both sides. But listening to a Mets (I am one) fan or an Angels fan or a Sox fan cry about Yankee spending is like listening to Kevin Bacon cry about how Bernie Madoff bilked him for 10 million. I'm not sad for you, Kevin. You are still doing ok.
