Gaborik back in play: To NY Islanders? December 2, 2008, 12:56 PM ET I am finishing up my blog on the Most desperate NHL Teams and this came across from three sources this morning.
One of them put it this way, "Gaborik is back in play and the NY Islanders, who have made plays for Sundin as late as two weeks ago, are now seriously talking about making a big play for Gaborik with the hopes of signing him long-term. However, the deal could go down even if he isn't signed long term...With the proper conditions."
more for sure. |

As long as we dont touch Bailey, KO, Nielsen, Hilbert, Streit, Campoli, Jackman, Hunter, Park, Bergie, Thompson, Sutton or anyone who hasnt gotten to the big club yet, Garth can wheel and deal all he wants, provided whoever he acquires is under 28.
EricN11 - December 2, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
now this is the type of nonsense i like to hear.

Fine with me as long as we're talking about Tambellini and Sillinger as our trade goods. Heck, I'll even throw Gervais and Pock in there as well...

Ooooo, Ryan Smyth all over again? Let's wait until the off-season and just sign the guy. No reason to waste a trade.

I notice that you did not include Gervais, Webby. Could that mean have turned your opinion of him? I personally never thought that highly of him, but I think you saw All-Star potential in him.
Can a mix of Comrie, Gervais and/or Tambellini net us a good return (a bonafide 30 goal scorer)?

YEAH A BONAFIDE 30 GOAL SCORER

Gaborik and Hossa have both expressed interest in playing together. Hossa signs a 1 year deal in Det and Gaborik becomes a free agent....sounds like it was planned. Now, name me the teams that can afford these two in the offseason......oh ya......the :isles:
Have a good draft, rid of the some of the old vets, bring these 2 stars in and we begin our new team in our new rink.......

Then you might as well forget making any significant deals then. Because without including any of those players we're not getting anyone worth while. Other teams aren't stupid.

The best thing that can happen for us in the next few years is the cap going down. There are already a few teams (can't name which off the top of my head) that are in trouble for next season. If the cap goes down, we'll be able to get big names on the cheap.

i have a hard time seeing that go down personally.
in the end money does talk, but Hossa has shown that it isn't the only thing that matters to him when he turned down Edmonton's massive offer this summer in favor for the 1 year deal in Detroit.
if we can talk Gaborik into doing it then maybe.. but Garth's gunna need to do a hell of a job selling the idea to him because there are going to be a lot of competitive offers from better teams.
the one thing i think we have going for us is the system we play. i can see an offensive dynamo like Gaborik wanting to get out of the conservative Lemaire style and go to a more aggressive forecheck heavy system that we have adapted.

The Isles have nothing of value for a player like that...
stevedepot - December 8, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
Ok, so per TSN today,
Tampa bay waived both Radim Vrbata and Chris Gratton.
Vrbata is going to go finish the rest of the year in the Czech Republic.

* The Tampa Lightning have place Gratton and Vrbata on waivers.
Look for the Penguins, Devils and Isles to look at Vrbata, and look for the Canadiens, Sens and Capitals to look at Gratton. |

Sources are telling me to expect the Doug Weight sweeps to hit hard in early January, and right now it may be a Battle of Alberta over Weight.
From a source..."Doug's rebirth has been amazing. At least 7 teams have expressed serious interest, but the best deals right now look to be coming out of Alberta." |
bringbackziggy - December 21, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
I saw that also...lets hope theres some truth to it...I would imagine that other teams have taken notice of Weights play so far this season...Maybe Garth will be able to play the suitors against each other and actually get some value for someone at the deadline

I just read Eric Smith's blog and he's saying something about Weight and a late round pick to Columbus for Backman, York, Mayorov and a 2nd rounder....he said Backman and York would just be to reach the cap floor....so Maryorov and a 2nd rounder for Weight is basically the deal he's talking about

Okay, Ek... let's wait for the deal to actually happen.

I'll trade anyone except Okposo and Bailey.
Anyone else can go bye bye.
Dark Helmet - December 30, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Gaborik's trade value is probably at an all time low right now and it might be the right time to strike and take a chance on the guy. Witt + Weight + 2nd rounder should just about do it. The guy has too much talent to pass up. I'll take a chance on the injuries.
But, with the loss of Witt we would really need to hunt down a stay at home d-man with some toughness in July.
