Title: D - Mark Streit
Webb20 - November 5, 2008 01:52 PM (GMT)
Ok NYICers. I think enough of the season has passed to start giving out report cards on some of our players. I'll try to post new polls about different players over the near future.
Post your vote and any opinions you would like about the player, whether it's praise or criticism.
Our first player is Mark Streit. The 30-year-old signed a five-year contract worth $20.5 million with the Islanders in July.

So much better than expected. Montreal said his D was non-existent. It is Norris caliber, but it is not shabby, either.
Keep it up Mark!

I don't know what to say outside this guy has been really fun to watch. For good or bad, he might be the leading scorer on this team come season end.
Really great pickup!

Definitely a good quality pickup as a free agent. Next free agent to get is Komisarek.

Streit should be on the all-star ballot this year :punk:

I had really high expectations with Mark. That's why I voted "as expected".

| Mark Streit, New York Islanders (5 years, $20.5 million): Eleven points in 13 games, a stellar five points on the power play and two points shorthanded. He's giving the Islanders exactly what they asked of him, while logging more ice time (25:43 before last night's game) than any other player by nearly three minutes per game. Outside of Hossa, the most success free-agent signing in the Top 10. |

One last late vote for "better than expected." As of a few days ago, I heard this guy was leading the league in PP points by a defenseman. :fright: I think he did that last year too, but that was obviously with different teammates, not our middle-of-the-road (and therefore relatively potent?) power play.
Snowday - December 13, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Garth's best signing by far, next to the 600K for Kozlov and his 26 goals.
Gravel - December 13, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
One of the best pick-ups this year. My right in vote for All-Star.

It seems Montreal thought he was not physical enough on D. I am glad they did, he is the best puckhandling defenseman we have had in a long time. His 24 points is right in with the leaders among Dmen, the high being 26. Other teams are keying on him, and he is still getting it done. We need more like him, Garth gets a pat on the back for this signing.
I would like to see him instead of Trent Hunter next time we get into a shootout.
Webb20 - December 18, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
Isnt he leading the NHL in PP points?
He's definitely been one of the few bright spots on the Islanders this year, and a very good signing by Garth Snow.
