Title: Swedish prospect watch
Description: how they're doin'?

#19Trotts - October 24, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
As you may know, the Islanders have three young Swedish prospects playing in Sweden at the moment.

In Djurgården [juur-geaur-den] we find both forward Robin Figren and goaltender Stefan Ridderwall.

Figren missed the start of the season due to an injury but has now played 9 games and according to Swedish media he made an instant impact after his comeback.

Ridderwall has played most of Djurgården's games and he has already proven himself to be a solid starter for his team.

Then we have our fourth rounder (#102 overall) from 2008, center David Ullström. He's currently playing for Borås [bo-reaus] in the second division (Allsvenskan).
Ullström is only on loan from his actual team, HV71. The reason for this is to give him more playing time than he's likely to get in HV71.

I'll keep you updated during the season how they're doing.

Magnus should have a blog.
Serious.

We get so much from him on this board and each time I nod my head, yes.
from artwork, to insight, to great hockey discussion from someone who knows the game.
They should fly him in and put someone worthy of the "blog box" there.

Dee, use your connections.

Thanks for the kind words Steve but I'm afraid I'm just like you (and many others), I just can't stand blogs...

I read 7th's and I read a couple of others but I'm really not considering those really interesting "blogs" as blogs. They are just good Islanders news sites to me, and if you'd like to call them a blog, that's fine with me.

I'm not seeing enough games or practices or "gossip" about the team to even start thinking of jumping into that business.
Ok, so I might be able to follow the Swedish prospects over here and THANK YOU, O' MIGHTY GODFATHER OF PHOTOSHOP! :WORSHIP: for your kind words about my art, but I'd rather post it here on NYIC, where my true Islanders friends are present.

A couple of quiet games for Figren now as his team dropped a bit in the standings.

Ullström was called back to HV71 since they are plagued by injuries right now. He also picked up an assist in one of the latest games.

As mentioned, Djurgården has struggled of lately and so has Ridderwall. But the whole team is to blame, not only their goalie.

No, not really.

At least not yet...

I was just watching a Swedish hockey night show on TV where they announced the Team Sweden roster for the WJC 2009 in Ottawa.
Islanders prospect David Ullström as I've been posting about made the team, so if you're interested in the tournament I thought you should know that.

Time for an update on the Swedish guys. Ullstrom is the one of the three who's looking best right know. He was recalled to Boras (tier 2) last week and immediately scored their game winner against Vasteras.

Here's a clip from a couple of weeks ago when Ullstrom scored the GW for Boras vs. Vasteras. Ullstrom with #24 playing in white.

Both in the WJC and in this video clip (thanks #19Trotts!), I've been very impressed by young Ullström's instincts around the net. Good stickhandler in close.

I cant comment on their style of play, but their numbers are quite unimpressive. Wish you were bringing better news.

i expected much more from figren, i thought he had an outside shot at making the team next year, that is looking more and more rediculous by the second.
