. Part 2 = Post 2

First, go here to download this grunge brush set:Grunge Brush
Unzip it to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Brushes\Adobe Photoshop Only and restart Photoshop.
You don't need 7.0, just unzip it to your version and in the same folders,

Ok, now to start.

Part 1 - Object

Create a new Document at 500x500

Now fill it with a slightly dark shade of colour. I'm using #363E45

Now, create a new layer and select the Epileptical Marquee Tool and go to Fixed Size at the top, and make it 150x150. Position anywhere. The middle is preffered. Fill it with any colour because we are going to use overlays. When finished, Deselect (CTRL+D) and and bring up the Blending Options.Go to Gradient Overlay and leave everything default.

Part 2 - Grunge Shadow

Continued from above.

Create a new layer under our object and select the Brush Tool.

Selecting the Grunge Brush

and then choose your grunge one.

Change your Foreground colour to #000000

Choose a grunge brush with alot of particles in it and make sure the particles of the brush are facing downwards because it will be more effective on the blending part,

Grunge 1st Step (image)

Now, erase the areas with a soft brush like in the picture below:

Grunge 2nd Step (image)

Set that layer to Soft Light and change the Opacity to 30%

Grunge 3rd Step (image)

Now, Duplicate the image twice and place each of them on the bottom sides of the object we are working with and set the opacity to both of them to 15% and use a soft brush and erase the outter edges a bit.

Grunge 4th Step (image)

Now, all you need to do is make it so that the grunge get darker as it goes upward. For this, Merge all of your grunge layers together and then Duplicate the grunge layer (When they're all merged together) and move it up a bit and use a soft brush to erase the outter edges a bit.

Grunge 5th Step (image)

Duplicate the layer and tap up on the arrow keys about 7-10 times. I did it 8 times. Duplicate it again.

Grunge 6th Step (image)

Now, creat a new layer on top of the grunge layers and with a soft brush ( Not using the grunge brushes ) make your own shadow under the object like below. It doesnt have to be perfect.

Grunge 7th Step (image)

Set the layer's Opacity to 30% and change the Layer Mode to Soft Light.

Tap up a few times on the arrow key and you'll have something like this:

Grunge 8th Step (image)

You are finished the shadow itself but for a better effect, add some tentacles in the background. I will show you how to do this now.

Tenticles

Select the Brush Tool and choose a hard edged brush and change the size to 17px. Create a nwe layer above the Background and select the Pen Tool and make something like below:

Tenticles 1st Step (image)

Right Click the Pen Tool and select the Convert Point Tool. Click the Middle dot and then Click and Hold And Drag it upwards a bit until you get something like this:

Tenticles 2nd Step (image)

Now, right click that Path and go to Stroke Path. Select Brush and Check Simulate Pressure. Click OK. Right Click the path and go to Delete Path. You should get something like below:

Tenticles 3rd Step (image)

Right Click the Object's Layer and Copy layer Style and Paste the Layer Style on our tenticle. Open the Tenticle's Blending Options and add Stroke. Make it Black, change the Mode to Soft Light and change the Opacity to 31%.

Click OK. Set the Layer Mode to Soft Light and change the Opacity to 25%. Select a soft brush and erase the sharp end of the Tenticle.

Tenticle 4th Step (image)

Now, Duplicate the layer, and move the Duplicated layer Above the first tenticle and Change the Opacity to 10%. Now, Click the Layer of the First Tenticle and Duplicate it. Go to Edit>Transform> Flip Horizontal and move it to the right as if it were a mirror image of the other tenticle. Duplicate that layer and move it above and Change the Opacity to 10%.

You should have something like this:
