Title: Having fun riding
dpetrick - June 24, 2008 12:08 PM (GMT)
I have logged about 3000 km since the end of April. Mostly just riding the back
roads in the area. There are a lot of interesting roads to explore so get on
your bike and head off in a new direction and see what you can find,
I can ride 100 km quite comfortably and the more I ride the more in shape
I get to go further. I am working toward a 225 km ride sometime later this
summer.
Have fun out there and ride safe!

:moto: That's what it's all about, my friend. All I need is the smallest excuse to ride.

I agree! I love riding... wish I could not worry about the price of gas and just ride to ride more often.

I wish I could ride everyday  ...instead over being stuck in a cage driving around all day. :crap: ....but it pays the bills. :pull:

You know, I have to say, The title of this topic just draws my attention whenever I scan by it (and I'm surprised it hasn't generated acouple pages of posts by now). When you think about it, It's why we're all here! Sometimes when I get home from work, I won't park in the garage, just in case I have to (want to) go back out.
1-riding relieves stress
2-best cure for a headache
3- saves gas
4- not only becomes a hobby (riding), but provides you with a second one
(modifying your bike/making it your own/cleaning, beautifying it)
5- conversation starter
6- puts you on a common ground with others just like you!
OK I didn't plan that, but that was six things about riding that just popped into mind.
Go ahead, add some if you wish. :moto: :moto: :moto:

you forgot going for a ride just for the sake of it
annox - July 4, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
Well said! That was #7. and#8 is "getting through a work day knowing that when it ends, you'll get to ride your fine machine home" ( :old: I think I'm quoting pops here... I'm certain that he posted that elsewhere)

Shouldnt have to wait until going home time waht about lunchtime??? :hahaha:

Don't forget easy parking. When I ride to work I can park the bike just outside the building, if I drive I have to park 1/2 - 3/4 of a km away.

How about appreciation for things that you might otherwise not take notice of when driving your cage.
Riding just makes you feel more alive. :moto:
annox - July 13, 2008 05:48 AM (GMT)
:moto: When driving a cage, there is always that anticipation of getting wherever it is you're going
When riding, you're not in a hurry because you're enjoying the ride. :moto:
I'm having fun riding and I don't spend any of my riding time in anticipation.
:chopper:

I want my bike back - sick of being in a cage.
Yesterday here was an absolute brilliant day for a extended ride - no wind, sunshine.
I just want to get back on and ride to work and only take 20minutes instead of 40 minutes in the cage

True dat, I once rode 2600 miles just to help a friend drink some beer.
Another time I hit every single state in the lower 48 just to get pictures of the "Welcome to" signs.

I took my piglet for a ride last week for the first time in seven weeks. It was raining and freezing cold, but I felt that withdrawn from not riding for so long, I didn't care. My whole demeaner was much more positive for several days afterwards.
I work long hours throughout the night and when I'm not working, my wife is working so I have the kids.
With my lifestyle I dont think that I will ever take the joy and privlage of riding for granted and I treasure every riding moment I get.

:2c: A joy or privelage... hmmm. a luxury...fun toy... :moto: somehow words don't put it in perspective. I think "need" is the word we're looking for.
I treasure every moment I get as well. Sounds like the same lifestyle I have.
Fulfilling this "need" is the only thing I ask for. A need only bikers understand.
The simple act of cleaning/polishing your ride causes your stress to unravel. :moto: Then once you loosen up and become one with the machine and the road, your peace of mind makes you "better equipped" to deal with things than you were before. :moto:
If I may quote skiing 49er :old: "You never see a motorcycle parked outside a psychiatrist's office"
I did a little over 100kms yesterday and came home without a care in the world. :moto:

As for you injured folk who aren't riding.. get well soon, speedy recovery, and get back out here and get your peace of mind. I feel your pain.:(
Funny, it seems that after a six year break from riding, I've got the "bug" for it now more than ever. Perhaps now there are more reasons to fill that need. :)
