Title: Gearing assistance

HI I am very new and just got my 1st bike, the V2C 250T, yeah the United Motors one. Loving it so far I have been taking on the country back roads near my home on littl 20 mile runs to get some experience on a bike. Everything from straights to twisties, uphill downhill and level.

Question is since with the '08 there is no tach and I am new to bikes, I am just not sure if I am riding the rpms to low or to high, so if you guys can give me some general giudelines for cruising speeds at what gear so I can tune in my skills a bit I would liek that alot.

for example on level road going 35mph should I be in 3rd or 2nd? they both sound and feel ok to me. in 2nd I still have some throttle left and in 3rd I get some major compresion if I let off the throttle.

any opinions welcome.

With the "break-in" period upto the first 600miles you should limit everything to 1/2 throttle , by that you would not go past 7000rpm thru any gear.

Seeing you don't have a tacho, at this time I would probably limit 3rd to 35mph (70kph) 4th to 45mph (80kph) and 5th to 55mph (90 kph).

I followed this thru my break-in (basically as per the manual) Once your over the 600mile first service you then wind it out to 3/4 throttle.

Important to use the gears during braking (helps to bed in rings)

Now these are my thoughts, opinions will vary regarding "breaking in" or not breaking in" engines. :2c:
