Title: Venox and a big boy
Description: 1 up weight/size limit

Bearishly4u - June 22, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
I haven't ridden a bike in years and had almost decided on the GV650 but it's a little more than I want to spend. I then saw the Venox online. I haven't seen one in person yet but what I can find shows it's pretty close size wise and price wise it's on the money.

My concern is that I'm NOT a little guy and will the bike look to small or be underpowered for 6'4 and 385lb 1up rider. Will just be used for relaxed cruising. Any help? I don't want to make a 4 grand mistake but I can't seem to find anything used for less than 4K that I like.

We moved your first post/topic to the INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE board and left a link where you posted it for two reasons.

One, to give better exposure to your questions.
Two, we ask all new members to post their first topic here as it makes for a more freindly place if we all get to know each other first.

Tell use a little more as to ''who-what-where-why'' about you and your bike and I'm sure you will get more rhelpful esponces, links to previous topics, etc.

Thanks

Is there a dealer where you can at least sit on one to see how the fit is for you ?
Where are you located ?

I am not as tall (5'11'') but have had people your height ride my nox with no problem.

Have also had the nox weighed down with camping gear + my weight which put the total well over 400lbs. .... rode fine.

Regardless of the weight we suggest you spend an extra $150 or so on a new rear sprocket kit from KYMCO.biz as it will make the 5th gear a true power gear and not just a ''cruising gear'.

:old: :piwyrwelcome: :kymcocool: He is right go set on one and see how it feels to you and the sprocket is the best mod that can be done to a venox

Welcome to PIWYR Bearishly4u .
:WelcomeWave: Good luck with your choice. Can't give you much info on the Venox personally ( we don't have them downunder).

I ride the GV250 and it has no problems carrying the weight. :okthumb:

I'm looking for one to sit on and feel out. The sprocket kit sounds like a good investment.

I've just "found" the venox this weekend so I'm going to check next week. My local Honda dealer shows to be a Kymco dealer and I know they have Hyosung.

G'day Bear and welcome to the Pride mate. It will be interesting to hear how you go with the Venox, which is from all accounts is a great bike. So good luck mate and I'll catch ya later. :WelcomeWave:

welcome to the pride bearishly. :WelcomeWave:

I've not seen a Venox (or the Honda VT250C from which it derives - we did getsome of the Honda's downunder but haven't seen one in the flesh). The Hyo GV250 is a big bike for its capacity so if your dealer carries both you might like to look at it too. Both bikes develop similar power from their V-twins.

My Hyo GT250 has the same donk as the GV and it manages my 120kg weight comfortably. If you're 385lbs (approx 175kg ? ) the bike should cope but I wouldn't count on carrying much additional luggage. In all fairness I think you might be better off with a little more power than any 250 will squeeze out, I think its going to be working most of the time unless you live in the middle of a very flat landscape.

Obx says it "rode fine" at 400+ lbs of rider and gear, I'd be interested to know how hard the engine worked on that ride (and what it did to the fuel economy) - remember Bear that this is going to be close to everyday conditions for you rather than an ocassional tour. :2c:

Welcome to the group. I own a Venox and I am around 330#. The Venox will probably work for you. I also agree with the sprocket upgrade. And also a windshield. Both help out on the open rode. My Venox will run about 70 to 75 on the road. But I have to say it is alot more fun under 65 and on back roads. The best advice I can give is sit on one and see if you like it. Better yet if you can score a test ride even better. The GV250 is also a nice bike. I sat on one but prefered the Venox. Good luck and let us know what happens.

This will be the same effect on any bike...more weight= lower mpg

of course it does BUT if the engine is under-powered for the task at hand it will have to work it past its comfort zone and suddenly the fuel efficiency falls dramatically to the popint where a smaller engine can return worse economy than a larger one.

A classic case in point was the old Crysller Royalle (built in Oz in the 60's out of assorted US parts from various US models) - it came in a V8 and a smaller straight-6 (don't recall the exact displacements). The six delivered worse fuel economy than the bent 8 even with only a driver on board, the car was simply too heavy for the power of the 6.

Hence the question I'm asking is how badly did 400+ lbs of payload effect the fuel economy? I'm guessing both the GV250 and the Venox would be similarly effected since the engines appear to have very similar performance characteristics. I'm wondering at what point you hit break-even with a larger engine.

yeah the Nox will fit you fine... I'm 6'5 270 pounds and it has no problems what so ever.. We havent done any mods to it yet.. good luck man

Well, I sat on a Venox today. I have to say the fit and reach were better than the gv250 but didn't feel as good as the gv650.

I'll admit I feel a little odd looking at some of the smallest bikes out there when I'm probably one of the biggest guys riding them. I also don't want to throw away money on a bigger bike than I need.

If the fit is good, can anyone chime in on how different the experience would be on the GV650 vs the Venox? Is it worth 2 grand more?

:old: My Venox has ran with out a problem since march of 05 and I have ridden the Gv250 and still prefer the Venox

Whither
its worth 2 grand will totally be up to you.

1. what type of riding.
The Nox will do 70-80-90+ but is at 418lbs very light weight despite its overall size.
There is a huge HP difference, 28hp Nox, 78hp GV650... (THE NEW FUEL INJECTED ARE EVEN MORE)

As a leisurely ''cruising'' bike...no
As a flat out blow the doors off...yes

2. reliability..
The Nox is not a new platform but is based off the Honda Magna 250, so there are few reliability issues....
The GV650 was a brand new bike...and ''in the past'' has had a few things to watch out for, of which it appears have been corrected now...

reliability...huummm.. not really sure yet

Now I have never even seen a GV650 SO... this is just my unqualified opinion.
