Title: Breakdowns and Emergencies
Description: Answers to roadside emergencies

As I am new to motorcycle riding and have been riding a Kymco Venox for about 5 months now, the thought keeps coming to me as to what I should do and who should I call for assistance in case I have a breakdown on a highway or local road or in case my motorcycle is not able to start. I'm sure it can be a huge problem if one gets stuck with such problems any way on the road.
Could people out here kindly give their feedback as to whether there is a roadside assistantce service like AAA (which is for automobiles).
Also say there's no electric power for starting (displayed by idiot lights not coming on) or engine unable to start etc. I'm sure such information will be very helpful to newbies such as myself who have little idea what to do or those who haven't given it a thought.
It is actually quite worrisome when one comes to thing of it. Thanks guys (and gals).
I am in the New York city area called Queens.
Have a great week and safe riding.

I experienced a problem this afternoon not too far from home today when I tried to start my bike after parking it on the street. When I turned on the ignition key, the electric power would come on for about a second and then faded out. Luckily, I was able to fix the problem after I checked the electric connector over the spark plug. It had become loose and after I removed and reapplied it the power came back on. Breathed a sigh of relief after I found out that is was a minor problem and just needed to tighten the spark plug connector by pressing down hard.

I'm an AMA member (any one who rides in this country should be) and through them I have Motow. They are affiliated with towing companies who are set up to carry motorcycles, usually flatbeds. it doesn't cover my bike but what I ride so no matter which or whose bike I'm on I'm covered. I get the first 35 miles free and they'll bring me fuel if I run out, no charge except for the gas itself. I went further and got Motow Plus so it also covers any cages for my entire family and I. My wife used it once when traveling with my pickup and I've use it a couple of times due to flat tires.

I've had AAA for for years since I do a lot of distance driving alone. (I also get my money's worth in maps & tour books!) I upgraded to the AAA RV PLUS which covers bikes as well. Just as Serp's coverage, it covers ME thus any bike I'm riding. It has 100 miles of free towing to anywhere I choose. I don't know about the gas though. If I'm by myself I'm riding in 'civilization' so I'm not likely to need that! :smalltounge
