Title: New rider from PA , QLINK
Description: - 2006 QLink Legacy
Jayderaven - June 13, 2008 12:30 AM (GMT)
Hi everyone.
New rider here in NE PA area (little more E then N).
Just started riding about two weeks ago. :moto:
Bought myself a 2006 QLink Legacy :QLINKCOOL:
I love the bike - wish it had a bigger engine, but for just starting - it's PERFECT.
I'm a fairly short chick :tease:, so the height works well for me.
I'm in the middle of my MSC - tomorrow night is the written test, then Sunday is the riding eval :Ack!!!!!:
I do fine with everything except the offset cone weave... I am REALLY hoping that isn't on the test. I hit more of the damn cones then I miss... :pull:
I'm here to talk to other riders and to get advice on the bike (especially maintenance tips, etc).
Anyway, Hi! :)
(Pic is me May 2008... I really need to get some of me on the bike...)
:lolsign:

And my bike:

WELCOME !!Thanks for the intro post.
Our QLINK boards are fairly new so not a lot of information there yet like the HYO & KYM, but those boards have been up over 2 years.
So with your help I'm sure the action there will pick up !
If you have ANY questions about the site post or PM any of the moderators.

Thanks.
Kind of ironic - the guy who sold me the Legacy had gotten himself a Hyosung - and damn, those are nice bikes.
I really think when I upgrade, I'll be looking at one. Reasonably priced, move really well and look incredible!
Hopefully, as the QLinks become more popular, more info will pour in.
Today was the first day I did any maintenance on it (only had it three weeks... :hahaha: ), but it is almost due for air filter and oil change. So, did the air filter - it was pretty cool - you don't have to replace the filter - just take it out, wash it with a solvent (we used dish soap), dry it, oil it and put it back in!
Oil filter seems to be the same concept (according to the owner's manual).
I love the efficiency and economy of the maintenance!

How about when you can posting about this as a new topic on the QLINK boards..
Members tend to join when there is information posted...it could only help. :okthumb:

How about posting your bike photos in our on site Photobucket
PHOTO GALLERY ?
If there is not a sub album already there, go ahead and add one with as many sub albums as you wish. Tag the pics with as many tags as you want to help tell a story with the pic. , it will also be picked up when anyone searches photobucket for that tag. Great way to advertise your bike, the brand and PIWYR !
There are some ''how to'' topics and login links at the top there.
THEN request your own personal MEMBER GALLERY/FORUM and we can set up a topper slideshow where you can add more pics to it as you have them. We can then also add this link to each of your posts.

which will take everyone straight to your own personal MEMBER GALLERY/FORUM where YOU control the topics and whats in them. Its your own personal space.
To set the last one up you will also need to join the
PIWYRfeatures Forum to post in and to view your own personal forum.

Welcome to PIWYR Jayderaven
from the land downunder. :okthumb:
Good luck on sunday with MSC. We have to do pretty much the same course as part of our bike license test.
One thing about the cone weave, I found was to focus on an object about 6 ft above the last cone and keep focused on that.
Your peripheral vision will do the rest.
The ol saying "if you look down ...you will go down"
Have never riden an auto bike, but if it was a manual I would say "keep the revs up, hold that friction point, and ride that rear brake"
Look forward to hearing the good news next week.

Welcome to PIWYR forum. Enjoy your bike and ride as often as you can.
Make sure to check out and post in the Qlink section about your rides and experiences with your bike and dealer. It will be great to get more riders posting there. I ride a Qlink Legend and enjoy it a great deal. Also post photos when you can.
Have fun and good luck on MSC.

Thanks, Errol.
I was trying to not look at the cone I was on, but it didn't help much - I'll try your suggestion. Going to go out to practice today a bit.
Just frustrated the hell out of me, because I can ride, I did everything else with no problems... just the offset weave made me feel like a two year old on a tricycle! :furious:
I'm sure if I was riding my own bike, it'd be a bit easier, but since I have to use their bikes - I have to keep in mind all the things I don't worry about on mine (friction zone, gear, etc). I just keep reminding myself it is good practice.

I know it's probably a bit late but I got alot of great tips from a DVD called "Ride Like a Pro IV"
Excellent tutorials on slow speed manoeuvring.
This is the Cone Weave test I had to do. I did this on my GV250.

Nah, you don't need to worry, but pops might :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:
Good luck with the MSC, I've yet to face the Oz equivalent but Errol's advice sounds pretty good. :okthumb:
Jayderaven - June 13, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
Thanks again, Errol - I am not sure how they will have us do the test - I know it is immediately after the Sunday class (which means we'll be warmed up and used to their bikes again, which is good).
It's a 10-15' cone weave with a 3' offset. I'm used to a longer bike (the Legacy is a fairly long bike) and the little bike they have me using is a good 1-2' shorter - one would think that'd make it easier, but seems to have the opposite effect.
Hi, Icedog... cute pups there.
I'll (obviously) be taking the US MSC version of the test.
The only thing they definitely said would be on the test was the "fast braking" (have to brake suddenly and downshift into first before your left foot hits the ground). I am sure the cone weave has to be on it somewhere, though...

I've just posted the tests that we are required to pass in NSW (Aus), like in the US there are slight variations but basically the same.

Do you have to shift it ? Honda Rebel ?
You can not use your own bike ?

Yes, I have to shift it...
It's not a Honda Rebel, but something similar. 125cc bike - small.
No, they won't let us use our own bikes.

They had a bunch of different bikes... they were the ones who said they were 110s, 125s and some 250's...
Oh and after all my stressing about the offset cone weave? It isn't part of the skills test... *laugh*
I took the written eval tonight - got 100%.

My sister recently moved from Washington (near Seattle) to Dallas and my stepchildren live in Plano.
We sure do - the roads suck, though (potholes and bumps)... my tailbone is already sore as all get out.

I passed!
Start with zero points, can accumulate up to 20 - at 21 points, you fail.
I got dinged with 5. (3 points for going over the line once in the S u-turn part, 1 point for stopping 1 foot farther then I should have for the fast brake and 1 point because he said I was just barely not going fast enough through the curves).
Everyone else who tested passed too - we started with 8 guys and 4 gals. In the end, there were only two gals - one never showed up and the other got really frustrated with the S uturn, stopped, dropped her bike and at that point, gave up and walked off the course. :pull:
:moto: :snoopy:
SUCCESS! :)

Well, I broke two "new and untried"s in the last 24 hours...
Friend had tickets for the Iron Maiden concert in Camden, NJ, last night. Going meant riding the bike down to Philadelphia... on the turnpike!
70 miles on the turnpike - it was fine, though a bit unnerving when I hit rush hour traffic on the E-W turnpike. :whew: Concert rocked, then drove back at 5:30AM this morning for work.... which was unbelievably COLD!
:wizarddragon:
Then on the way home, it started raining... talk about cold... *brr* felt like pins coming through my jeans. My leather jacket, gloves & helmet protected the rest of me, but my legs were freezing til I got home. I need to get some rain gear!

For us folk from downunder "turnpike" I always thought these were just the "overpasses " on those freeways. But I gather it's not.

Work starts at 7AM... *lol*
Trust me, I felt it... certainly not 21 anymore when I could party all weekend, get little to no sleep and work all day and be ready to do it again. :)
