Description: My first bike GV650 ??
haris_el - June 7, 2008 05:52 AM (GMT)
Hello guys,
i am going to buy my first big bike and i am thinking about GV650.
However i am not so much in mechanics , so i need a motorbike that will be reliable.
As i am reading through the internet this bike has some problems, and the only dealer that exists in my country is about 1 hour from my place.
What do you guys suggest?
Should i ? Or should i not? :help:

This is a hard one to answer, I will be the first one to say that Im a wee bit biased when it comes to the GV650 since I do own one. But before getting any new bike it pays to do as much research as possible, and then take them out for a test ride. And finally buy the one thats right for you. Your on the right path by checking the websites for advice so your not going in blind, personally I love my GV650 and after a year I have had no problems except a couple of worn shock absorber bushes. You will find that the products from other manufacturers have their share of problems as well, but see whats around and check out the local (one hour away) dealer. Have a good talk to them, see what they can do for you and try and find out what their reputation is like (and make sure you take a bike out for a test run). But in the end the choice is yours, the GV650 is a great bike, it has power, it handles well and its economical (registration and insurance costs in South Australia are quite low) and its fun to ride. But look at all your options and take it from there, in the end your going to enjoy the experience as there is nothing like getting a new bike to brighten up your day no matter which brand of bike you decide on. :evilgrin1:

I visit a lot of different websites and I too have seen comments about ''HYOSUNG BUNCH OF CHINESE CRAP'' all from unqualified commenters as its KOREAN CRAP :hahaha: Seriously where have you read this... as Dave pointed out for every REAL complainer I can show you the same for any manufacturers NEW bike.
The few problems the bike had at start up have been adressed for the new models and recall fixed on the old.
This is true for any bikes brand: ''TAKE CARE OF YOUR BIKE AND IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU''.... DON'T TAKE CARE OF YOUR BIKE AND IT WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF YOU''.
What country and town would that be ? The closest dealer to me is 2 hours away..

Weeeeell, .....FIRST, for good suggestions more info from you is necessary.
WHO/WHAT/WHY/WHERE
no way to answer with out more info...as it is any site you go to will say ITS GREAT, but its not how it is for us but how it fits the WHO/WHAT/WHY/WHERE that your needing.
EXAMPLE:
What will you be using a bike for...
Why are you considering a bike....
Where will you be riding it....
What conditions will you be riding... city/country, etc..
Why are you considering the GV650....
etc...etc...
The more info you give the better the answers can be... :okthumb:
The bottom line is how a bike fits these questions FOR YOU.

:old: :piwyrwelcome: Get your self a manual when you get your bike a lot of things can be done your self. You will need to look around for another shop anyway. Anytime you can find more than one. Hyosung are a reliable motorcyle anyway.

First, Jo and I love our Hyos, she with the GV250 and me with the GV650. We've not had too many problems and both just turned over 10000KMs for her and 6000 miles for me.
Hers is now in insurance purgatory awaiting the final word on repair or salvage due to a recent accident described elsewhere on the site.
My biggest concern for the purchase of a new bike in YOUR situation would be the dealer. You say there is only one Hyosung dealer in your country. I would visit the dealer, talk about how long he's been in business, how many Hyos is he selling, how long has he been a Hyosung dealer???? Is he selling enough of them to keep the Hyosung line. I've seen dealers give up on specialty brands but stay in business. Are their mechanics familiar with Hyosungs although that's not too big a concern as they are fairly standard V-Twins with old Mikuni carbs?
What happens if your dealer decides to quit Hyosungs after one year? Hyos have a two year warranty. While you can get the parts through a third party, how will you handle warranty replacement parts and labor if you don't have a Hyosung Dealer.
I just had to change my dealership after my Hyosung dealer went OUT of BUSINESS!! Now my dealer is 1 1/2 hours away but still seems reliable.
Limited to one dealer in the country, I'd find out where is the next nearest dealer. And decide if the risk is too great to choose a Hyosung.
Good luck.

I can't speak for the GV650 but I have the GV250 and it's a great bike.
Good luck with your decision, whatever you decide. :moto:

If you do not feel comfortable doing your own mech work then I would think you would be safest with a brand that has more dealers. This goes for ANY brand and is not a reflection on the reliability of Hyosung - I have a GV650 and it hasn't given me mechanical grief yet.
If you are dependant on the dealer for mech work then dealer choice (and the likelyhood of one still being around when you want them) becomes of prime importance.
All motorbikes need service sooner or later be they Honda or Hyosung, Harley or Ho-Chi-Min-special (do Vietnam actually make any bikes?).
Whatever way you decide, enjoy the ride. :okthumb:
