Title: How long is the life of a venox?
Dadogio - May 29, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
I have a question: For you how long is the life of a venox engine? How much kilometers can I run before... He need to change or open for replace a parts?
pops - May 29, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
:old: I do not know I would guess that with proper care and maintence a very long time.
obxbiker - May 29, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
I have done over 50,000km & 35,000km on mine and have never touched them...

I would suggest changing your oil to a synthetic like pops and I did after break-in.
We both use Syntec Castol 5w50w.

Know guy who made over 100.000km without any problem :)

i am thining of buying a used venox with 20.000 km
The owner is going to buy a 500cc and is giving in his Venox and in 10 days will be available.
I was thinking whether 20.000 km are quite a lot. So it should not be an issue for a first time rider - like my self??
thanks guys!

PS there are some questions on your intro topic still...

I talked with some people, and the GV650 is out of question.
I had GV250 as my first option, and then i saw the Venox...
I liked its style a lot! I always liked the Triumph Bonneville, and as soon as i saw Venox i felt the same thing!
So the only thing now is whether i should buy it used or new.
New: $7.000
Used: $3.750 - with 20.000 km. The only thing i know about this bike , is that the owner wants to trade it in in order to get a Kymco 500cc. Thus when the scooter comes in, in 10 days, he will bring the Venox in and it will be available...
It will be my first bike, and mainly i want it for in town riding , and sometimes also for Sunday rides...
I live in Cyprus, so the most far away i can go is about 2-3 hours from my house. However there are some mountains, that i might need to go up.

$New vs $Used for where you live sounds fine, but do take a look at it for signs of not taking care of it.If you get it change the filter & oil to a good synthetic 5w50w A/O.
Just wondering how much is a GV650 THERE ?
For the mountains we all suggest spending the $150usda + shipping for the 43tooth rear sprocket upgrade from KYMCO.biz.
Some where I saw some info on a venox riding in Cyprus... youtube ??

I personally would go with the Hyosung with only 8k on it. Thats just a personal thing though. |
His ''personal thing'' has nothing to do with which bike you should get.
It something completly different.
Most at that site will lean towards the hyo as that is what they own (not any active venox owners there) Here we have a blend 50/50 between the two brands but each member will still say get what they own as that is their choice.
I lean towards the what I consider the better styling of the Nox (+ I own 2)
Either one you go with it really is up to you based on what you see in reqards to past maintence.

the gv650 is about $11250 in cyprus.
thanks for all the help and comments about my new bike.
i will be thinking a bit more, and ask my dealer to tell me some more details about the used bike.
As we have small towns in Cyprus, i can say that i have a Kymco dealer 10min from my house, another one about 30' and another one 60' away.
So we are lucky in a way :-) hehehe
obxbiker - June 27, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
WOW....my nearest Kymco dealer is 2+ hours away on the mainland.
haris_el - June 27, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
so i suppose you understand why i dont want to buy a gv250, were the only dealer is 1 hour away from my house.... :-)
So in the end 20.000 km is not that much for a kymco?
When i was looking around for Hondas' all the dealers were saying : ''these machines can go 200.000 km with no problem!'', but i suppose is not the same for kymco?

The Kymco Venox
IS an updated Honda Magna 250 !!
Kymco for 40 years was a primary manufactuer for Honda.
HONDA MAGNA 250 made until 2002 the year the KYMCO VENOX came out.

Check out the topic pinned on this board.

So there should not be any questions about the life of a venox then!
So Honda had the Honda Magna , they stopped it and now they are doing Honda Rebel?
I found in yahoo a question about whether someone should buy a Venox or a Rebel, and look at the answers :
1. Honda is the last word in reliability, Kymco is still an unknown. Go Honda.
* 1 year ago
2. Honda makes the best motorcycles in the world. End of story. If it's in good shape, that's your best choice.
* 1 year ago
Source(s):
biker 30+ yrs (have owned 4 Hondas)
3. Honda Rebel. There are other choices out there (such as the Virago 250 or Suzuki GZ250) but none hold their value like the Honda.
* 1 year ago
4. You're smart for going with a 250. The Honda is a great bike. Get a good used one and you can sell it for the price you paid. There is no waste of money.
* 1 year ago
Go with the Honda!!
5. A much better built, reliable motorcycle. With a much better warrenty and parts are easy to come by when you need them.
I have been on the Kymco, it is a Korean made piece of junk, light duty and unreliable, and just feels wrong to ride. It is basically a disposible bike.
If you have not done this yet, check out the Yamaha Virago 250, you might like it more than the Rebel.
-------------
Not everyone seems to know that Venox was a Honda in ....its previous life :cool:

Totally uniformed comments being made.
Usually you see Kymco being referred to as Chinese , lumping them with the cheaper 'unknown' mainland Chinese brands flooding the market (and those are all not the same either - )... its Taiwanese.
I'm also sure in looking at Hyosung you have seen references to it being made in China..Those are made in South Korea.
These posters have in almost all cases never even seen the bikes,or knew someone who had heard from their brother that he knew a guy at school who said he read on the internet...LOL... or at most have just sat on one but have never OWNED ONE.
HECK :rolleyes: I will bet most of those misinformed posters do not even know the differences between SOUTH KOREA vs NORTH KOREA and MAINLAND CHINA vs Taiwan !!
As to the Honda Rebel that is a platform that has not changed in 30 years.
Yes it is 'bullet proof' but is very underpowered compared to the Venox & GV250. 18hp vs 28hp stock. This is where the ''its only a 250 snobs'' get the 'thought' that a 250 is JUST a beginner bike as its is so small, light weight and slower then what is now avaliable.
The Honda Rebel is the Volkswagen Beetle of the motorcycle world.

An unbelievable coincidence happened now. There is a rent a bike shop 200 meters from my house. I went to see the bikes that he has, just out of curiosity, and i saw a Venox!!! It has 2.500 km on it, i asked him if he is selling it and after some thinking he told me that he is selling it for about $5.000.
Another choice to the lot now! I think with some talk the price may go down.
The only bad thing is that this is a rent a bike shop, and i dont know what were the people that were renting it were doing on it!

With only 2500 km there can not be much the renters had time to do on it.

...and chances are the renters have not taken it easy so its likely been "properly" run in.
If there's no visible damage I'd say its probably a good bike. :okthumb:
haris_el - June 28, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
Cool guys, i thought i was going to get a negative effect on the rental one, but you seem ok. :)
I feel that you know better than me, and thus your suggestions would be largely taken into consideration!
At first i thought that : Whats the fastest and best stunt bike on the road? A rental! And i was a bit afraid at first to even ask if he sells it. But with only 2500 km , i am a bit more into thoughts about buying it.
I will discuss for a reduction in price because 100 people have ridden it and because the leather on the back rest is a bit torn! Then i will rent it for 2 days and take it to a mechanic to check it if it is ok.
Then i will decide...
Unfortunately i have never ridden a Venox before to know how it feels...

Talked with the guy at the Rent a Bike shop.
He said that he bought it from a girl last year, when it had about 800km on it. Then he just rented the bike to 2 people, thus he cannot reduce the price…
Mmmm.... now, new / used / or even more used?? :cool:
I think i am going with the used one from the rent a bike shop for $2.500 cheaper than the new one...
obxbiker - June 30, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
And the winner is....

lets see :PICS?: as soon as you get it !!
