How many months out of the year do you get to ride ?

dpetrick - May 25, 2008 02:09 PM (GMT)
Most years I can ride starting in April and stop in November. There are occasional years where we get a few days in Feb. and March that are nice enough to ride. And sometime winter does not arrive until mid December. Last year I put the bike away the week after Thanksgiving, when the snow started and it was late April before I could ride regularly. I did start riding in early April, but only when the temps got over 40. This has been a cool and wet spring so riding has been limited.
It's Memorial Day weekend and it started raining Friday and forecast is for the rain to stop Sunday night. Monday may be a good day to ride. I did ride around town a bit
on Sat. (In between showers) but it was in the 50's and there were 40 mph gusts of wind. In July and August we can get into the high 90's with high humidity. September and October are some of the best months for riding. Cold mornings and moderate temps during the day, and a lot less traffic. This area is a tourist area so there is a lot of traffic and being on a motorcycle can be a dangerous thing because of the other drivers being distracted by things and doing stupid stuff because they don't know
where they are going. We do get a lot of windy days, average wind speed is about 13mph.

Here in OBXLAND this weekend is the BIG TOURIST kick off..
We go from a population of around 40,000 here on the island to 5-6 MILLION over the next three months.

Now THATS TRAFFIC... all on an island with only one main road north /south, from yards (where the sound is on one side of the road and the ocean on the other) to 5 miles wide at a couple points.
