Title: gv 250 a good bike? Any advise would be great!

slimdiggie - May 24, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
My wife is looking to buy a 2005 HYOSUNG GV250 AQUILA for $2,500 dollars. The bike has only 500 miles on it. I am not very familiar with this bike or anything about Hyosung. Are these good bikes? and is this a good price for this bike?

The dealership sold it to a lady she had it for 6 months then traded out of it at the same dealership.

Thanks,
Slim

From everything posted at this forum though I have never seen one in person...
My impressions are:

Great bike..more of a classic HD styling then the NOX and weighs a little less so will preform about the same.
Been hardly any issues that I remember being posted..

Sounds like a great price...for year and mileage.
Pops owns the NOX and works at a dealership that carries both so his opinion should be balanced.

Not as many people over on this forum as the venox I guess.

But to answer the question I have the GT and have done 68000k on it in <2 years. I know a couple of others with the GT and GV and none have had any problems with them except the well documented ones ie cdi and rear shock (on the GT and GTR) although these seem to have been fixed on the newer models.

In my opinion they are a great learner bike and a great bike for commuting (which is really what I use it for). There are alot on the road here and at the moment you can only ride a 250 on a learners licence (they are changing the rules on this)

What to... and just ZLAND not AU ?

Homer - May 25, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
In Australia they use a power to weight measurement. Usually a bike under 660cc will be legal for learner. The GV650 is of course 650cc, but has more than the allowed power for it's weight, which is why we have the learner version here.

The GV250; very nice bike. It was a hard decision for me when I bought my GV650. I went with the GV650 coz I wanted more power, but from what I have read, the GV250 is no slouch. George, isn't the GV250 more powerful than the venox?

They are changing it to something similar to the Oz LAMS which is as Homer has said based on power to weight. I havent seen the final figures yet but I beleive its pretty much a copy of Oz

:hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: ''George, isn't the GV250 more powerful than the venox?'' :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha: :hahaha:

NO they both are rated at the same hp ...
thought I am confident 'OBnoXious' will beat a GV250 hands down !

Had thought we would have had 'a go at it' at OBX BIKE WEEK this year as Jo & Gary were going to be here for a yearly business meeting , but it was canceled. :lolsign:

Slim will be the first that I know of that will have both STOCK bikes ''SIDE by SIDE'' ,

could make for some interesting comparison topics for the forum !

pics together...etc... !!!!

slimdiggie - May 26, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
We are picking up my wifes bike next Saturday. Once we get it home I'll get some good pics with them next to each other. I like how she has a rpm and gas gauge on her pic where we only have the speedometer.

TACH, which the 2008 GV250 now does not have...

the tach though talked about a lot is totally NOT neccessay on either model.

These are modern engines that incorporate a rev limiter so there is really no REAL need like there use to be for one.

errol - May 26, 2008 02:34 PM (GMT)
The GV250 is a great little bike, even better once a "performance Kit " is fitted. Increasing the capacity from 24hp to 27.9hp (dyno tested).
There is many well documented posts on the performace of the bike once this kit is fitted.
I have a 11/2006 model and have got the kit ready to fit. I am just waiting till it's out of warranty before I fit it. The kit is available from Larry Cook ("In the Biz" LCCycle)

As prev stated CDI problems has been the main issue, some occasuional problems with rusted gas tanks.
Fuel gauge is not reliable but not really a problem.

errol (or anybody) whats the 5th gear like ?

is it a 'cruizing' gear like on the NOX just for max MPG ?

When out on the open road I generally stay in 4th till about 8k revs (90kph /55mph) and drop it into 5th and cruise. I don't push the bike as I'm never in a hurry to get anywhere.
But once the P/kit is fitted (and masterminder could adtest to this) the greater low range and high range performance of the bike is noticable.
MPG is obviously affected once the kit is fitted. ( Larger jets and modified air intake and exhaust)

obxbiker - May 26, 2008 03:07 PM (GMT)
was wondering as we do NOT have a 'performance kit' for the NOX, but many of us have switched to a better 43 tooth rear sprocket that makes 5th gear a true performance gear !!

anything out there (better sprocket) for the GV250 ?

(the ''X''- FGC exhaust thats on 'OBnoXious' does also help the performance as its less resticted )

I'm sorry Goerge  (George) I'll have to let someone more knowledge on engines answer this one.
I've only picked up what read & learn't on forums like ACD and Korider and now PIWYR. :okthumb:

obxbiker - May 26, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
I do remember someone HAD TO change the sprockets (front or rear ?? ) as they put whitewall tires that were larger... do not think it was the best out come but I think it was more the larger tires that caused this...

its here somewhere...and I think I know where...

Goerge ?? :hahaha: OK Greame :hahaha:

icedog - May 27, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure if the GV is geared any different to the GT - the GT certainly can hold speeds of 80kph in 5th on an uphill climb (with a 120kg rider) so its not "just a cruising gear". OK its not a performance gear either certainly but there is some pickup there. I normaly shift at about 6k.

Its was Don who posted about it a couple years ago @ACD, and it was the front sprocket that had to be changed...

QUOTE
"Don", as some of you know, installed whitewall tires on his gv250 "piglet". [as I want to do on my re-mod on blk. venox] the tires are the same size for both bikes however the whitewall tires are larger therefore he had to change the front sprocket because of loss of RPM'S.....

From the ''WHITEWALL'' tire topic on the Accessories board.

I forgot all about the shock problem I had with my GT250. After 2 weeks of riding the shock was no good.

I prefer a stiffer ride, so after doing a little snooping and comparing, I replaced my GT250 shock with a new shock from a GT650. It fit perfectly and gave me the ride I was looking for.

:old: The 250 is a nice bike and had we not been selling venox's allready I problay would have bought the marron and Tan GV250. I have not had one onthe highway yet to discuss the gearing what I did at the shop seemed fine to me. We make it a practice at the shop to ride only what we need to find a problem or make sure it is fixed on customers bikes. Also RIde it like you stole it is not the
motto there. I was hoping we would get one in that would require some I-40 time. :furious:

It most certainly IS a VERY nice bike! And I've never had a power issue. Ummmm, at least not of the not enough variety. . . I'd actually planned to 'steal' Gary's 650 after awhile, but found my 250 was perfect for me.

If most of my riding was on highways at speed, then I'd get the 650 & modify it. But most of my riding is around town, in traffic and back roads. Though I've no problem on I95 though I only have 30-40 miles at a time on it.

And George, I'm just hoping you'll be kind enough keep Noxious in 2nd so I can keep up . . . :smalltounge
