Title: Extra lighting for my GV250
Description: How to add extra lighting to the system.
Route66 - May 13, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
About 50% of the riding I do is in the dark, at night. Last week when I was warming up the bike I walked across the parking lot to lock a gate at work. I looked over at my bike and discovered that all I could see was a tiny little tail light. I then decided that I would attach those two little bullet lights that I had left over from another bike that replace the license plate screws. But after putting them on I wasn't sure how I was going to hook them up to the electrical system since the wiring is all wrapped up. Has anyone attached additional lights on the back of the GV250? If so, how did you do it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Ride on!

Have you checked the MAINTENCE and/or the MOD boards ?
I know some have added extra front lights not sure about the back.
On my Venoxs I just spliced into the rear wires, but do not know how its bundled on the GV250.

Access to the rear wiring loom is fairly easy, it's run under the rear fender to the rear tail/indicator assy.
The main problem with adding lights to the GV250 is the poor battery performance when it has to deal with more load other than from the standard components.
But in saying that, a few low wattage lights should not be a real problem........so long as your battery is good. :okthumb:

''two little bullet lights ''
if these are LED's draw will not be a problem.

Hey Route 66, how did those extra lights go? Any problems with the hook up?
Be great to see some pics. :camera:

I bought some LED clusters recently to add some more lighting to the GV.

They are fairly low current draw. When I changed my headlight to the GV650 unit, I noticed a 'spare' wire called 'position' or something like that, that is used for a low wattage bulb; almost like park lights - my plan is to wire to that link.
Will post more when I get around to wiring them in

Hey Chris, where did you get those lights from?
Do you find the GV650 light still not bright enough?

Errol, for what its worth IMHO the light on my GT250 is much better than the one on my GV650 (as long as its aimed up a little). I think the GV250 has the same light as the GT ? If so then going to the GV650 light would be a backward step. :2c:

Hi Icedog,it all depends on the year of the bike, for istance mine is an 02 model and they came out with a small headlight with 35/35 watters, ive since upgraded it to a 45/45 watters big difference,,the 02 model has a weird bulb its not your standard H4 globe which are on the later models,,i think 03 and up thats why the later models have the larger headlight,,,if you have seen the pics of mine and errols bike together on the wisemanferry ride we have the diferent headlights, for route 66 have you tried using a testlamp to check which wire/wires are going to the tail lamp and alternative you could tryconnecting them to the actual taillamp wires,,,,i havent done this personally but im thinking i might do this for my foglights which i got from RJ,,,,cheers

Thanks masterminder for explaining that, didn't know they upgraded the light. In that case let me conditionalise my last statement...
The '06-07 GT250 headlight is significantly better than the smaller diameter '06 GV650 headlight (both same wattage) - the smaller reflector on the GV650 casts a far poorer beam than the 250's as long as the 250's lamp is aimed up a little.

what would be the exact wattage for the newer style headlights?????
icedog - June 2, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
according to the books they are both 55/60W. Have not had cause to verify this yet.
