What year are you looking at?
Reason for asking is that alot of the original problems seem to have been fixed in the newer models so a year would be helpful

I would say that serp might be the person to answer this but he has just taken off on a long trip because i think he has a 2004
From my understanding of the earlier ones it seems to be things like the cdi unit, charging/rectifier, rear shock
I have a 2006 and have had the cdi unit replaced at 9900km, the rear shock at 9900km and 66000km and these are the only big problems I have had. Have now done 67500km. The only minor problems I have had are one fork seal kept leaking and every now and again I get a miss but then it disappears of its own accord.
This is a link to my full service history up to 65000km so it doesnt include the latest shock

G'Day Roby !!
sooo... I assume you are looking at getting one ?
Does it come with a complete service history so you know what if any the issues have been and how they were addressed ?

The kickstand switch is famous for failing here in the states. If it does, you'll not be able to put the bike in gear because it will stall since it thinks the kickstand is down.
It's easily bypassed or replaced, but inconvenient if you are on the road somewhere!

I broke mine on my Yellow Venox while on the road, had to ''bypass'' with a wire, bottomed it out in a pothole.
Lucky that was all that broke, but did push it a couple miles to a gas station before I figured it out what to do.
It was fully loaded with all my camping gear... well overloaded so it was a hard push ! :pull:

Roby, if its actually for you and you are addicted to the performance of the GV650 you might want to consider the GT650 instead.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to sell mine and I will continue to alternate between the GT250 and the GV650 for commuting. The GT250 is a great fun flickable bike and is very economical. But while it has a lot of go for a 250 it certainly doesn't have the raw oomph of the 650. Really depends on what you want it for and what you expect it to be able to do

Its good see your back again Rob, hopefully you will be back on two wheels soon. The workshop loan bike at DA's is a blue 05/06 model GT250, it has seen all sorts of different riders and Im sure some of them have proberly have given it a hard time. So far its had a CDI unit replaced and thats about it, its a tough unit for a 250. Personally I like the GT250R myself, unfortunately it is too hard on the old body after a couple of hours. I still like them though and all the GT250's are very easy to service. :evilgrin1:

Agree with you totally although I have to admit to thinking about buying another Yellow GT for when the current one wears out :hahaha:
