Title: screen and rack
Description: new additions
icedog - May 7, 2008 04:26 PM (GMT)
OK, had the day off (RDO) so got around to fitting new windscreen and sport rack (yes waste of riding time but it had to be done).
Windscreen is a National Cycles F-15 Tourer, which is the tallest of their range of sport bike universal screens. Unfortunately it isn't ideal for the GT250 - the screen mounts to the headlamp brackets but the guages hang out over the lamp too far to permit much adjustment. On the plus side the position it most easily defaults to is the highest the screen will go so you do get the most out of it. The screen comes in line with about the base of my neck I guess which solves the problem with my chest getting blasted but it does increase helmet windnoise. The screen has a turnup at the top which further lifts the air stream which seems to help. At the end of the day it is a sportbike screen and not a cruiser plate so in all not too bad.
The rack is the genuine Hyo rack for the GT. reasonably well made although the caps on the leading end of the frame are a bit ugly. Installation instructions in Korean with a couple of tiny line diagrams - I think I put it on right although there are 2 nuts left over and I can't for the life of me see how they could be used.
I did take full set of pics if there is any interest.
before (which I don't really need to show but need it to work around the first image bug):

I would be interested in seeing this in more detail as there are 'add-ons' you can purchase that comletely move the wind over your helmet.
I have one of the brands and so does pops..

I have the Givi sport screen and it works really well, ditto for the Hyo rack.
Those 2 "nuts" you have left wouldn't be the spacers that go inside the plastic would they? 'cause you need those.
I love the color of yours, wanna trade body pieces?

no the two nuts fit the two SS screws that go thru those spacers (and the rack) but the frame has weld nuts already so they would appear to be redundant (I had to run a tap thru the weld nuts to clean out the threads but that's another story)
Sorry, as you may have noticed I like blue

Hey you should remove that sticker from the top of the tank because if it peels later with age you'll find that the paint under it won't match the rest that has faded some.

that's a good thought, might have to look into it, thanks for the tip.
The oval DataDotDNA sticker below it stays though so might look a bit odd unless I can find a suitable decal to put in place of the warning tag, hmmmmmm

Maybe the nuts were packed as spares. I've come across that before.
serp - May 10, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Usually that's the case if the item has more than one application.
icedog - May 10, 2008 05:17 AM (GMT)
@Homer: don't see how, they are the only two of that size in the hardware kit, the only thing they fit is the 2 screws that hold the back of the rack down - the ones that screw into the weld nuts on the frame that also hold the taillight ass'y. ???
@serp: yes, guess that might be it. maybe some bikes don't have the weldnuts ???

Hey icedog, what is that decal at the back of the tank? Skull & ....something.
Any chance of another pic?
icedog - May 13, 2008 12:10 PM (GMT)
you mean the tank protector? Its the Grim Reaper, if the bike was white I would call it "Binky".

:WhatWeAllDo!: Have you thought about changing the orange indicator lenses for the clear ones.
Match those on your GV.
obxbiker - May 13, 2008 02:06 PM (GMT)
Very...Very...NICE !
icedog - May 13, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
here's a clearer shot.
Someone else asked about changing the indicators too. To be honest I don't mind the stock ones and since I can only ride one at a time matchng the GV isn't really an issue.
