Title: Great day for a ride

dpetrick - May 5, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
The weather really cooperated today. Almost no wind and 70 F temps.
I had a chance to get the Legend out for a ride late this afternoon and enjoy
the nice weather. Last week I had the bike serviced by the dealer and he made
some adjustments to the carb and the clutch and checked the valve clearances.
He installed a new set of plugs. Today was the first chance to ride in decent
weather and the bike is running great. Purrs right along at 55-60 mph without
straining Filled it with gas and got 130 km per gallon, thats about 80 mpg if
I did the math right.
We have several nice days forecast before it cools off again so I should be able to
ride to and from work and do other errands.

The weather has been cooperating this week and I have been riding quite a bit.
Logged about 130 km between going to work and meetings. It was in the 60's
but it was good riding. The Legend continues to run very well and I had one run of
50 km between stops. Took a secondary county highway and casually cruised along
at 50 to 60 mph. At these speeds the bike runs very comfortably.

Any other Qlink riders out there who can post about their rides?

Have a great ride.

It's been a cool and wet spring so far so I have missed a few days of riding the Legend. Today it is about 60 degrees and cloudy with a chance of rain, so I don't want to get too far from home on the bike. The last long range forecast says it is going to be a cooler than average summer with above average precipitation. Hope the weatherman is wrong about that. I am hoping to get in a couple longer rides this summer. My brother in law has a '78 650 Yamaha. He lives in Rochester, MN., so we are going to meet in Blue Earth, MN for lunch. Now all we need is for our days off to match up and then for the weather to be decent. It is about a 150 mile round trip for both of us so it should be a nice ride. I can do the entire route on seconday highways instead of I-90, so cruising at 55 should not be a problem, other than the fact that people like to drive 10 to 15 mph over the limit.

How is the weather where the rest of you are located?

shit...

rain and colder here right now then where you are (59 vs 64)
Thought it was VERY nice (80's) for the memorial day weekend tourist avalanche.

Well the way it worked out I got in about a 130km ride this afternoon. I had
a portrait session scheduled and they called to change the date because it
was cloudy and kind of cool to photograph their 18 month old outdoors. The weatherman was WRONG! About 1/2 hour after they changed the appointment the clouds broke up and the sun was out, did not warm up that much, but it was perfect
for a ride. I geared up and took off since the afternoon was now open. Kept an
eye on the sky and just kept riding. I have been wanting to get in a 100 to 125 km
ride in to see how comfortable the bike would be. I can say that after about 2 hours of riding on back roads I was feeling fine, the seat on the Legend is quite good. There were stop signs to stop for and lots of nice easy curves to ride so I just cruised along at between 50 and 60 mph and enjoyed the ride. I hope my "Bike" camera gets
back from Nikon soon so I can carry it in the tail bag and take photos of these little excursions. I have a D70 that is small and light that is being relegated to bike duty, when it is not backing up my D1x and D2x.
Clouds are now rolling in and rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning.
But 65 degrees and sunny is a perfect day for a ride.

As you are a photographer we need to see a lot more :PICS?: !!

As soon as the D70 is back from repair it will be back in the bag and on the road. I was
using a Canon A530, but no longer have that one. I prefer the DSLR cameras and the D70 is just right for me on the bike.

I have not been riding much lately because of all the rainy days we have been
having. Hopefully the weather will clear a bit and I will be able to ride a bit
more. Have been able to get a few short rides around town in but thats it.

dpetrick - June 13, 2008 01:21 PM (GMT)
The weather seems to be clearing a bit so I got out for a short ride last night.
After all the rain there is a lot of junk on the roads so I really have to watch the intersections for gravel, sand, stick and leaves which have blown or washed into the streets. 30 mph winds forecast today so riding may be a bit tough. If I get a chance I may ride up to the dealers and get another can of chain lube. Keeping the chain well lubed sure makes a difference in how smoothly the bike runs.

I am in NW Iowa and so far we have been spared any major flooding. Wed. night the warning sirens went off because there were tornados' in the area, but the ones that touched down damaged only farm buildings. No homes were damaged and no one was injured.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Have a good weekend Dave, keep your head down away from those twisters.
