Title: GPS MOUNTING ON AN EXCITING

tony_dt - May 2, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
Going on an 1156 mile trip on Xciting 250. Friend is lending me his Garmin (I can't remember the model now (street pilot)) It is about 6"x3"x2". I noticed most people use a mirror mount for their GPS on the Xcitings.
Anyone have any other way to mount their GPS. I think that I am going to remove the Center Cover from the handlebar and use an uclamp.
I would be interested in any ideas.

Thanks!
Tony

G'day Tony, I don't know if this will suit the Garmin, just a thought.

Quote: RAM offers the perfect mounting solution for your personal navigation device on your bike.
A combination base made that is made up from a u-bolt kit or an attachment to the clutch and brake reservoir assembly, provides a rock solid foundation for your RAM mount. Made of aluminum with vibration dampening rubber ball, these products are high quality and built to last.

Rams a good choice, they offer a lot of different types of mounts. :2c:

Which GPS is that ?

It's a Mio P550 - combo Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) and GPS unit.

A GPS is some thing I have been thinking about for quite a while.

Not a lot of use here on the barrier islands as going east to west is 5 miles at most but north to south is 200+ ( hard to get lost with water visable on both sides), but I do occasionally go to the mainland.
(last summer...twice... )

How is the sun glare and is it water resistant ?

Hey Errol!

That was my idea also. My friend didn't like it as much. They actually have a receiver for his GPS. He didn't like the idea of turning me loose with his mega buck GPS on god know's what kind of roads. The ram receiver looks like the unit could pop out if you hit a big bump.

What I would like to do though is get their big aqua case and use that mount. Of course the big case is a little too big and I would have to pad it somehow.

Thanks for the ideas though. I am determined to make something work!

Tony

Yeah! That's what I would like to do. Do you remember who made that mount?
I don't know if he will like the carrier though. Is it pretty secure?

Tony I use the RAM mount(s) for this $1,200.00 camera and screen on ''OBnoXious'' Venox....and its a HARD TAIL !!

Heres the mount for the camera, the RAM has two adjustable angle points, this one flat mounts to the Ammo side cases.

(ignore the first pic as the ''GHOST CODE'' won't let it show...its the same as the second one.)

sorry this pic is harder to see, but its a bar mount for the screen.

They are a VERY secure mounting system, if fact come EOM on the best most expensive moto equipment you can buy.

Neeet! George.

Yeah, oh I am comfortable with the mount. It is just the receiver he is picky on.

I am going to buy the mount for him (he said half, but I will get it) for letting me borrow the GPS, so I want to also get him something that he is comfortable with.
He wants an extra mount for a trip where he is going to rent a BMW.

I need to get one too George (GPS). Some of the backroads I take are fun but easily to get hopelessly lost. I don't mind when I am fooling around but I have to get to my destination on time this time:)

Here's a link to the one I bought, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=360019446849

It's cheap but does the job.

:lolsign: There is one under there George. :okthumb: It is just under all that plastic crap. I am going to take all that plastic crap off put the clamp on and then put all the plastic crap back on except the center cover. The mount will stick up though the center cover hole. The GPS will cover the area so that you can't see the missing center cover (I hope). Anyhoo, It is just temporary. If I was to buy an xciting though I would leave all that plastic crap off and change the bars and clamps. All that plastic covering annoys me.

I do want one (xciting) but I want a 700. Probably be a while before I can afford that. Now if Kymco came out with a Venox 800. I would hock most of my valuables. (oh yeah) Umm. Well maybe give lots of blood?

Thanks!
Tony

Yea all scooters have it under the plastic, I have taken that off one of my super9's gives it totally a different look...its a sreamer 70cc and tops out almost as fast as the venox

not having seen an exciting had no idea if you could access the bar with out taking it all off. figured it would be like my super9.

bigger venox ? not in my lifetime... :tease:
