Title: The VENOX Experience
Description: Share your "gawker" stories

Murs - July 5, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
One of the fun things about owning a VENOX is other people's reaction to it. So, I thought it would be fun to have a place to share stories of people admiring the VENOX for the first time.

If you have any "gawker" experiences... post them here.

Okay... I'll start.

Last Saturday I stopped at the visitors center, parked in the shade and went in to buy some bottled water. I went back out and sat on my bike drinking the water when I see this kid (in his 20's) looking at my bike from a distance. He finally saunters over and says, "Mam, what kind of bike is that?" I said,"It's a Kymco Venox." He says, "A what??" I repeated, "A Venox, by Kymco."

"I ain't never heard of one of those." ( He is definately from out of state)

I said,"There's not many around." He walks around admiring the bike and finally asks, "What size is it?" I said,"What do you think it is?"

"It's got to be about 1300." "It's a 250", I replied.

"Your shitting me!" he exclaimed in disbelief. "I got me a 750 back home."

He admired the bike a little more then thanked me and walked away.

Before I got one I would use the shop demo to go on poker runs. On the last stop
on the first one several people gathered around the Dark Blue one I had that Day
and were admiring it. They were talking about low seat heighth, The chrome how big it might be things like that, I ha been to the big boy's room and come up behind them listen for awhile then stepped over to the bike. The guy's that I had been riding beside all day long were at a lost for words when they found out it was a 250 aand cost less than half as much as their's. Some were even down right up set about it. And I even had one young guy that told me that it was the first Vrod he had seen.LOL. On the way to the finish several did not want me ride beside them any more. Thats when I first took one up over 80. But the bigger inches would walk away from me. The look on their face's was priceless.

Last Friday, riding back from work. I stop at the lights among a group of all kinds of bikes, all gathered in the "pole position"... There was a Yamaha R6 (sports), a Honda Varadero 1000 (On/off), a couple of mopeds and a big scooter, you know, one of those big new-ones, must have been a 400-500cc. I noticed that all riders, each at a turn, would turn around and look at me and the Venox for a few seconds, but the big-scooter guy was really staring at the Venox! The light goes green, we start, the big bikes go flying, and I am cruising with the scooter right beside me. Next light, we stop. The guy stops right next to me and says:

"A KYMCO???" he asked, clearly amazed, when he saw the emblem on the right crankcase cover(Kymco's scooters and mopeds are very very popular over here, and KYMCO is a well known brand in Greece)

"Yeap!" I reply

"Incredible!!! It's really beautiful!"

"Thanx!"

"Does KYMCO produce large-displacement engines? I didn't know that..."

"No, they don't" I reply

"How many cubics is it, then?"

"Probably less than yours..."

Light goes green, I start, leaving the guy behind, trying to figure out what I had just told him...

AHAHAHAHAHAHA......

Their seems to be a new story everyday !!!!

The one that most sticks with me I posted already...but here it is again...

Pulled up to work and a guy on a new Yamha VMAX parked beside me....
After staring at my bike ,asked me what I was riding...
Gave the responce that I normaly give to other bikes...

"It's a KYM custom metric" and left ....

THE NEXT DAY.....

Riding to work and was about halfway there when a cop pulled out behind me and started to follow me. I thought WTF ....continued to follow me for the next 3 miles in heavy traffic...I go left lane he follows...I go right lane, the same.
WTF !!! going speed limit, obeying all traffic laws...and then...

HE LIGHTS ME UP !!!!

So of course I pull over. He pulls behind me and gets out. Strange how a cop looks different in uniform, same guy as was on the VMAX !!
Tells me.."so you did not have time yesterday to tell me more about your bike...how about now ??? ".....

I found the time....LOL..

Turns out he had noticed the small radiator but thought it must be a oil cooler due to the "air cool" fins on the engine. Thought it must be at least a 1200cc....
It was about a 15 min. conversation so this is just the highlights...

Last night, after work I went to have a beer with me mates. At some point one of them tells me that someone is messing with my bike! Turns out it was a guy "posing" for his wife! Big deal you might say... Thing is, there was also a H-D parked next to the Venox... hehehehe

I went riding with a friend today. He has a Kawasaki Vulcan. He has removed the Kawasaki name and made some other changes. We went up HWY 74 :Murs'WooHoo!: and stopped at the Sugarloaf cafe. I got a table by the window so I could see our bikes. One of the guys that saw us walk in went out and looked at our bikes. When he came back in he asked us what kind of bikes they were. My friend proceeded to tell them all about his bike. Then he asked about mine. "What is it?" "Never seen one before" "Where do you get one of those?""How do you pronounce it?""Where is it made?" and on and on. A few minutes later he was back outside with his friend, thoroughly checking out my bike. The one guy even got down on his hands and knees! It was pretty funny.

Oh, and he thought it was 750cc.

I love it!

Folks can't help being wowed by the Venox. The other day at a local liquor warehouse parking lot, I was carefully wrapping and packing a dozen longnecks into my saddlebags when this guy apeared out of nowhere. Wow, nice bike, What is it?(Ever heard that one before?). I chuckled and asked him what he thought it was. He guessed everything from BMW to Honda and Yamaha. And thought it must be at least 1000cc. I said Honda was his closest guess and went on to explain about KYMCO. I thought he was going to fall down when I told him it was a 250. This story has happened 20 times in various places from parking lots to other bikers at traffic lights.
I never thought I was buying a conversation piece! :old:

I had this guy approach me at a gas station and compliment me on my Venox. He asked what make it was, since he hadn't recognized it and said he knew for a fact it wasn't a Harley. B) When I told him it's a Kymco Venox, he got this blank look on his face and just said "Ok, is that Korean?". We then went on to chat about bikes and it turns out he owns two Ducatis.

Another time some guy asked me about the Venox at a local supermarket. He told me he liked the look of it, and wanted to know more about it. He asked me stuff like "What's the max speed?" and when I told him 140Km/h he asked if the bike starts shaking violently at that speed or is still smooth. Well, IMHO it's quite smooth, but then reviewers have said the bike vibrates quite strongly, so that's what I told him.

Most of the people who have asked me about the bike have found it attractive, and wanted to know more - there was even this one guy who asked about pricing and seemed determined to get one himself! :ok:

That's great Ralph! These Venoxen are so extraordinary its almost embarrasing! You don't want to own one if you don't like standing out in a crowd!
Last weekend, while riding with David and Anita who were on their new Harley, I was approached by a guy who kept going on about my Venox! After he left, I apologized to David saying, "I didn't realize I was buying a conversation piece but that happens almost every time I ride this thing."
After all, He paid 4 times more for the Harley, and it is definetly the nicer of the two rides...I mean, 4 channel sound, cruise control, intercom system, and suspension to die for!
Heck, You know, I even get folks in cars and pickups roll down their windows and ask about my Venox at red lights.....

:hahaha:

I've had that happen too.

When I was still in Palm Springs I was riding alone and a group of Harleys caught up with me. They were in both lanes next to me, behind me and one pulled up next to me. He started questioning me about the bike - I could hardly hear him - the light turned green and we were still talking. I was surprised noone behind us started honking. They patiently waited for us to finish our conversation. :D
