Description: Best Bike For The Money??????

PCOLFORD - April 2, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
How she going? As you all are aware i'm new to the site. I am currently tring to decide what bike is the right bike for me..for the money..I have been looking and researching alot on the Hyosung gv650, and liked the style of those bikes..but since being on this site and surfing around, I am now more confused..hahaha..I know everyone has their brand loyality, so i just would like to hear some input from members on what there bike is and why they enjoy it, and what faults/troubles they have had with there bikes. Cheers,
Patrick

Just a few more facts to help YOU decide.
    New to riding ?
    Returning rider ?
    Current rider ?
    What type of riding ?
    Where ?
    Price range ?
    Why a bike ?
    etc...

PS. fixed your sig.

PCOLFORD - April 2, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
K I'm new to riding..had an old moped when i was 13..that sucker would go 35mph..hahaha. The type of riding i'll be doing is daily commuter, and weekend warrior. My daily commute is about 50 miles round trip. The road back here are usually rough/bumpy. Speed limits run about 65mph for the most parts. Looking at spending about 8-9 grand total. Every year I get bike fever, and the bank (my wife) usually makes a great point that we don't have the extra income, so this year I think the time has come. :crap: Thanks.
Cheers
Patrick

:welcomespin: to the forum :WelcomeWave:

I ride a hyosung but a GT and of course as you said there is that brand loyalty thing, I have had no trouble with mine (apart from at the start when the rear shock and the cdi unit were replaced) and I have done 62000k in 19 months on it

G'day there, I have an 11/2006 built GV250, it's been a very reliable bike. This is my first bike and eventually I may progress to the GV650.

It's easy to ride (I did my learners on this bike) I've had the bike for 9mths and have got just over 3k km's on the clock.
:moto:

Seeing I've only ridden a Hyosung, it's the only one I can comment on.

Have a great time on whatever you choose.

:woohoo:

PCOLFORD - April 2, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks errol, and gw555, :okthumb: I'm not sure that a 250 is big enuff. Like i said I need something that will do 65-70 mph and carry a 200lb man at that speed. I just worry that i may look like a monster on a little bike..i do know that the Hyo 250 is only a few inches smaller than the 650, so size wise i don't think it will matter, but horsepower wise..correct me if I'm wronmg but doesn't the 250 put out something like 28 horsepower? like I said before I'm new to bikes and it's been along time since I have ridden, and want to make sure that I don't look like an idiot..we have all seen people ridding bike that was way to small for them..i know of a guy who goes about 250lb and rides a 50cc scooter.
thanks,
Cheers,

6'3" 225lbs and my Hyosung GT250 will take me up to 100mph with some effort but will cruise comfortably at 80mph all day long. The GV250 is the same motor...

PCOLFORD - April 2, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
Thanks Nate..

I was looking at the site and the different bikes out there..You know those Johnny Pag Spyder 300 bikes are a sharp looking bike.. now I'm really confused..hahaha :crap:
Cheers

I love my GV650! It my first road bike and it pretty much is perfect for what I want it to do.

I've had a couple issues that have been sorted out through warranty.

I'm a big bloke and it has no probs moving me along. Even 2 up and she goes great!

And it's also very easy to ride. I did my learners course on the bike, and while it wasn't easy making a 270degree turn full lock and not touching the ground, it was still achievable!

I don't think you will have an issue with the brand, just pick a bike you like the styling of.

cheers

''all cc's are not the same''

The thing to remember about the Kymco Venox and the Hyosung GV & GT250 is its a modern high revving 250. Not like the old technology 250's (ie Honda Rebel 250 etc.which put out a low thumping 18hp).

Any of these bikes are large as far as size and torque and would easily maintain speeds well above what you have mentioned.....and are great choices for newer riders.

The GV650 (650cc) also performs more like a even much larger cc bike, once again for the same reasons. In AU where many of our members are they have a better system to help new riders NOT get more bike then they should at first. There the GV650 HP is restricted for some time but then you can derestrict it once experience is learned.

I'm in the same boat as you Pcolford. I'm researching and reading everything possible about the bikes. I'm down to the GV250 or the Venox. I'm currently leaning towards the Venox. This is a great resource for finding information on the bikes and the people here are the friendliest. I'm sure you'll find what you need here and make some friends along the way.

Oops! I almost forgot :welcomespin:  :WelcomeWave: :snoopy:

G'day Patrick, welcome to the Pride mate. Ive got a GV650 which I have had since May 07 and so far I havent had any problems with her at this stage, nor an I expecting any. You will find that you wont feel or look like an idiot on either the Venox or the Hyosung, even though they are 250's they have the power and size of much larger bikes. Ive ridden quite afew GT and GV250's after they have been assembled from the crate for the test run, Im 5 foot 11/86kg (I dont know what is in lbs) and I have enjoyed every bit of it. I find the GV250 has a more traditional cruiser feel that the 650 lacks, but then the 650 is a sports cruiser after all. The only real way of finding out which bike is best for you is to sit on one and if possible take it for a test ride, with the Hyo's and Venox you cant go wrong with the others I dont know as I havent come across them yet. Either way enjoy the ride, its always fun doing the research when you know your getting a new bike out of it. :evilgrin1:

:whew: Sorry Patrick, just a little :WhatWeAllDo!: business to take care of . . .

Welcome to the site! Gotta weigh in of course! I've the GV250 & my husband has the GV650. As to size - the GV250 looks much larger than it is. Most think it's a 'small' 650. No.

I don't find height to be as useful as inseam length. Gary & our son - he has a 33"(84cm) inseam - find my bike very uncomfortable because they need to sit further back on the seat than my pillion allows. If he needs to ride my bike more than a test up & down the street Gary will take off the pillion. She has more than enough git & go for him, though & he's as impressed & pleased w/her as he is his 650. I have a 29" (73.6cm)inseam and can ride the 650 but since I'm only 5'2"(1.57m) & have no upper body strength I find the 'manhandling' required for parking, backing etc just too much for me given the rake of the 650 if it's not on dry level pavement. Like that is always around!

As has been said: just sit on them. Upright in your riding position.

The other biggie I shared w/Gino: if you are going to be riding 2-up forget the 650 unless you plan less than 30 min or a major pillion seat mod. See Gino's thread for more on this.

And the Venox is by no means a 'baby bike' - I never saw one til after I bought my Hyo & I've not ridden one - but a really nice size & good looking bike.

Enjoy whatever you buy & keep us posted! With pix of course!

cheers

Still....at least you don't live on the east side of the Great Lakes !!! :okthumb:

PCOLFORD - April 4, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
I do live east of the Great lakes...I'm in New Brunswick..directly over the top of maine.
Cheers

Its not the same like living east of Lake Michigan in Erie is it ?

PCOLFORD - April 4, 2008 10:04 AM (GMT)
Very simular the problem with the big cities(ie: Toronto) is that there is no place to transport the snow to. Anywho...talk to ya's latr....going to try to find more out about the Johnny pag..found a Venox dealer in Nova Scotia..going to contact him here next week.
Cheers,

Dave - April 4, 2008 11:02 AM (GMT)
Whats this strange thing called snow?

pops - April 4, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
:old: I do not think we have had more than two days with a little of the white stuff at time all winter. I think we had one sort of real storm this year and it was gone the next day.

PCOLFORD - April 4, 2008 05:02 PM (GMT)
I knew when I had the chance to go south I should have..hahaha, no I really like it here..but it would be nice if we had some more warm weather. The big problem is that for anyone with a bike here they only get to ride maybe 4 months of the year. Really it usually starts snowing around October here and we usually have snow on the ground until about the first week of May.
Cheers

obxbiker - April 4, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
Being farther south has its downside too..
Your riding ALL YEAR...so you spend more on gas...
Your riding ALL YEAR...so you wear you bike out faster...
Your riding ALL YEAR...so you have to worry about 'sun burn'..
Your riding ALL YEAR...so if near a beach theres the 'bikini distractions'..
    Your riding ALL YEAR...so...
    Your riding ALL YEAR...
You get the idea.... :hey: :beathorse:

:hahaha:

PCOLFORD - April 4, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
Ya I get your drift OBX.. Sounds like a problem i'd like to have....I also noticed that the weather there is 21C there today..were a 3C here...hahaha..But on that note I did see someone today on there bike..true die hard riders....That guy has ballz..or had ballz, we all know what the cold does to our testicles...haven't seen mine for about 3 weeks... hahahaha
cheers,
