Title: A first for me.
serp - March 28, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
I have been licenced to drive for 34 years and I have had tickets for 35 years. Yep I had 2 speeding tickets on a military licence before I even got my first civilian one. As of this month I have a CLEAN DRIVING RECORD, for the first time in my life. Of course it's not for lack of trying, in the last 3 years I've been stopped and collected 7 warnings.
I still have my first ticket, I got nabbed at a blistering 28 mph in a 20 mph zone with a school bus for which the judge banned me from driving my car on base for 10 days. The joke was on him, I didn't own a car at the time.

3 of those warnings would have been tickets for sure were it not for the "bread box"
My Passport 8500 radar detector with the H.A.R.D. system.
Legal speeding

They are illegal here. Someone was fined heaps just the other day for having a radar detector detector!
They were great when we were allowed to use em!
serp - March 28, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Here they're not allowed in the state of Virginia but every where else they're fair game.

I had one a couple years ago here in N.C. and forgot to turn it off going into VA.
.....I didnt have it any longer. :angrypops:

Does that ever work for real Pops?!
I have been pulled over to be fined more times I care to remember. I have never even rec'd just a warning; always a fine!! They never realise what trouble I get in when I get home and tell the missus!!!!!

:old: I used once sort of, told the officer I had been riding for along time and got into it and did not realize how fast I was going. I have found just be polite and normal has gotten me out of alot of them. My 32 Degree badge on the back of my truck got my out of one once.

I've tried heaps of things to get out of a fine, but nothing I do ever works. Maybe we have the toughest cops here in NSW/Australia, than anywhere else!!!

I did that, sort of.
I had just bought an 83 Suzuki GS1100e the month before here in Florida and a friend wanted to know if I wanted to take a road trip to Canada with him.
Well sure, always up for a road trip. I needed a new back tire for this trip but the one I had had plenty of life left so I figured I should have some fun with it as long as I was going to trash it anyway.
Leaving a red light I cooked 1st gear leaving a nice long black mark, a picture perfect burn-out launch.
What I didn't know was that the Highway Patrol had just pulled out of the parking lot and was in the next lane about 3 cars back and saw the whole thing.
I saw him after I let off but he didn't know that and I figured if I could just get to the interstate 2 blocks down I'd be home free.
Just as I got the the on-ramp a car from the opposite direction takes the ramp.
Well I could pass him and be gone but if I do he'll know I'm running then it's all over but the crying so I bide my time, I may make it yet, the cop is still negotiating the traffic.
It wasn't meant to be.
Just as I cleared the ramp he pulled in behind me and lit me up.
OK, plan B
I pull over jerking the front brake on and off, get off the wrong side of the bike, test it to be sure it wouldn't fall over, being as rookie as I can be I step back and shake my head as I pull off the helmet.
The cop walks up to me;
me "Did you SEE that? this bike is unreal! it's NOTHING like my last one"
He just looks at me, sizing me up
me " I went to take off and I thought the clutch was shot on my new bike, the engine reved but it wouldn't go"
He just takes my information and goes back to his cruiser and motions me to follow.
him "What was your last bike?"
me "A 125 Enduro"
he shuckles, rips out a warning ticket and says;
"I STRONGLY suggest you go somewhere and train yourself"
I rode off with my warning and a big smile.

They are talking of banning Radar Detectors here as well - see what happens, I dont use one but I havent had a ticket for around 6 years and that was for doing 100k/h on the open road but unfortunately I was towing a trailer and the limit back then was only 80km/h (they have now upped it to 90k)
Got pulled up on the bike two months ago for doing 63km/h in a 50k zone, cop :cop: was getting a bit agitated (because I couldnt hear what he was saying with ear plugs and hellmet) and when I pulled off my helmet and he saw I was a "older" guy he went off to check rego and came back and said "slow down" got in his car and drove off :sport:
