Title: New (to me) Venox
Description: Hello and General Questions
rmurad38 - March 10, 2008 02:36 AM (GMT)
Hello, my name is Rene and I have a few questions. First off, I hope to be taking delivery of an '04 Venox this coming friday. My first question is this, It's an '04 with 128 Miles! (206km) on the clock. It was purchased for a guys wife who liked it, but couldn't deal with having to shift! it has since sat in his garage and done little but collect dust, the bike is understandably immaculate. He is selling it for $2000. is this a good deal? I think so. (I went over every square inch of the bike and it looks fine by me) It also starts and runs perfectly.
Second question is most any bike by any manufacturer has it's share of quirks and maintenence issues, does the Venox have any and what are they?
Final question, I'm a big guy (6"0, 275lbs) and have found the bike to be sized perfectly for my height (much roomier than my '86 VT700c Honda Shadow actually) I want this bike for commuting (about 50mi/day round trip) I know being a 250 my weight could be a problem (I'm working on that!) but even so, would I be asking too much of the bike to be able to do 65-70 MPH on LEVEL ground? (I dont need to be a speed racer here, but I want to be able to handle the flow of traffic). Up hills will be slower and I would expect to need to drop a gear or 2. Perhaps a better question is since im closer to the size of 2 tiny people riding 2-up, is it possible and for those of you who ride this way with a close combined weight to mine, can you hit 65-70 on flat ground?
Anyhow thats about it, I hope i'm making a good choice here (i think the bike is a steal for what i'm paying) let me know your impressions and if this is a good decision (I still have a week to seal the deal, and living in NH its not quite riding season yet) anyhow, thanks in advance

WELCOME TO THE SITE, Rene !!
Have you had the time to read some of the topics on the Venox board ?
The NOX's 5th gear is like an over drive..geared for optimun gas milage, even so you will have no problem reaching 80-90+.But would suggest ,as all who have done it will say, get the rear sprocket kit (from KYMCO.BIZ ,43 0r 46 tooth vs stock 38)as it improves the performance alot.
My only concern would be the carbs since it has sat with such low milage but you say it starts and runs fine. I had an issue when I let my first NOX sit for a year when I got a second one.
THAT IS A GREAT PRICE !!
The only other thing about the NOX is it does have a very 'weak' electical system. If you take nothing but short trips and have extra loads added to the electronics you need to be sure it is hooked up to a battery tender...but I suggest using these all the time anyway as they dramatically increase the batteries life on any bike.
There are also now a couple aftermarket exhaust systems avaliable which will improve the sound and add a little extra performance.
As is, you will be extremly suprised as to the performace (28hp stock) compared to the tradtional 250cc crisers in the past.
PS Where in NH do you do your riding ? :welcomespin:

:old: Welcome , You willl like the venox had mine three years now. Unless you change sprocket it will problaly run best down the highway in forth.

 Congrats on the purchase. I'm 6' and 300#. I had a 2005 Venox for my first bike. Real world, as is you'll have no problem doing 65 mph on flats amd 50 - 55 on easy hills. I really liked the Kymco, it fit me well, looked good, taught me much about riding, and wasn't thirsty(easily 60-65mpg). I chose to upsize my ride for some of the future travelling I'll be doing. If my wife would have let me keep 2 bikes I would've hung on to it because the Venox was a fun ride to commute on. keep the rubber side down.

Thanks for the responses, It seems like this will be a decent bike and I should go for it, hopefully if all goes well, I'll have it friday. Nice to hear that power shouldnt be a problem, and as I get my own weight down things will only get better. looks like the sprocket is a good Idea, it will probably be one of my first mods.
OBX: The sitting around had me a tad nervous about the carbs too, but like I said, it started and ran fine. I'll still likely through a can or 2 of seafoam through it though, can't hurt!, As for riding, I'm located in southwestern NH so i'll be in that area, southern vt, western MA. I'll also go up north to Laconia for Bike week, I'm sure I'll get razzed a bit by the harley owners but whatever :)
pops: Thanks for the suggestion, I'll just have to see first hand how it does , if I'm not impressed, I'll do the sprocket.
vikingpnut: thanks for the confirmation that the bike will handle a "larger" rider, exactly what I needed to hear, Nice M50 BTW, a friend of mine got a black one of those last year, nice bike!

Welcome to the group. I agree you should have no problem with that speed. I am 300+ and still have the stock sprocket. And mine will do 70 on flats in fifth. I am hopefully put the sprocket on mine this coming weekend, Every little bit helps.

:welcomespin: :WelcomeWave: WeLcOmE!!! :welcomespin: :WelcomeWave: You have found a great forum for Venox. I have never ridden the Venox but judging by the way that the people on this forum talk about there bikes, you picked a good one. I have a GV250 and it has a lot of get-up-and-go power. I am fairly large man myself and my bike continues to amaze me. Just keep in mind that with 128 miles it still needs the break-in period. You will find several threads on this forum on breaking in your bike. Be sure and check them out. I rode a bike several years ago and have read a lot of books lately and I continue to learn from this forum.
Congratulations and :WelcomeWave: :welcomespin: WeLcOmE :WelcomeWave: :welcomespin:
Have a good one and ride safe. :D :biker1:

So I got my bike today, and as always with my life, something goes wrong. while preparing the bike for me, the previous owner was running it and put a rag on the headlight, he left it for he claims just a few minutes but it managed to MELT the lens. the outer housing, inner reflector and the lamp are all fine, but the clear lens is trashed. he did knock 100 off the biketo compensate (or he was going to order the new lens for me. but other than that, the bike is great, it runs great drives great, etc. I should be able to pick it up at my dealer. anyhow, does anyone know what this will cost or a place online I can buy it? again, just the lens
Thanks!

So I went to my local dealer and they will get the the lens, $24.14 they say 5 business days we shall see. Also found my battery was dead, replaced and good to go, now I have one remaining problem, my cooling fan runs all the time, if you unplug one of the wires from the temp sensor in the radiator it (the fan) will shut down, im thinking perhaps that is bad too? having a continuous fan isnt the worst thing (at least it wont overheat) anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this? bad sensor? loose wire? anything... bike is a little bit of a challege right now, must be a result of all those years sitting with no use, but I think im like 90% there..hey at least it isnt riding seaon yet
