Title: GT250 - Marvin's back.
serp - March 9, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Marvin is running like a finely tuned watch again but the chain is now making noise and the cord showed up on the rear tire today, good thing I plan to replace them in another 700 klicks.
qw555, I'm coming after you. I figure it will take me 2 years to catch your mileage. (It's good to have goals they tell me). 19,300 klicks and rolin'

Good to see you got him back.
I have to replace my chain as well, started making a bit of noise but there again this has done 25000k so I supose I cant complain.
Get some riding in I need a bit of competition, starting to slack off only clocked 600ks last week

Serp, Hows Marvin running now???
serp - March 13, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
Marvin is doing well but I'm keeping him close to home because of the worn back tire and chain. I have new rubber and chain/sprockets sitting here but I don't want to put them on just yet. In another 700 km it will be time for his service so I'll do it all then and that will happen just before my trip to the mountains in May, I'm going to use some sticky race tires so I don't want them on the ground before I leave so they'll last long enough to get me back.
So for all out of town rides Suzi will get the job, for now.

Ummm... trip to mountains is that quite a trek???? from a not having ever been to the states perspective
serp - March 13, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
The first day will be 800 km where I meet up with a friend. That ride is all straight with some sweepers.
The second day will be 650 km of twisty mountain roads to a place where I meet with a club every year (about 25 riders show up from 10 states and Canada)
The next 2 days will be local rides totaling about 500 km of gnarly twisty switchback mountain roads.
1 day back to the friend's house at 650 km
At that time if I have any tire left I'll ride a couple of days in the north Georgia mountains otherwise I make the trek home, another 800 km.

Sounds like a good ride, most I have ever done in a day is 720km and that is about 8.5hrs riding plus a few stops. We dont have vast expanses of motorways, to many towns have to slow down for.

"Vast expanses" is nearly all there is out west but even along the east coast it's a simple matter to stay on lonely country roads and avoid the towns.
The pic in my signature is one of the roads I take on the way north.

We have "lonely" country roads as well you just have to find them. On the weekends I usually go for a 300km ride on one day, but I try and go early before anybody else gets on the road, mainly because you get idiots trying to 200k+ on bikes or >130k in their cage which is fine if you know the road really well and know that ther is nobody coming the other way drifting on the corner
