New GT650X

The star of the stand is likely to be the new Hyosung GT650X – a different and individual take on the street-fighter style with a completely new tubular frame and sharp styling.

But with electronic fuel injection, power output is now 82bhp with improved fuel efficiency, more low speed torque (67Nm at 7,250rpm) and stronger performance. Vibration is minimised by counterbalancing and a new oil cooler aids performance and durability. The exhaust system is kept low and central for mass centralization.

The new frame is very rigid for improved handling and low vibration, using tubular chromium molybdenum (CrMo) steel and aluminium. The swing arm is rigid, but low weight aluminium and unsprung weight is reduced with lightweight 5-spoke wheels. Tyres are 120/70-17 ZR and 180/60-17 ZR. Front brake discs are 300mm with radial mounted 4-piston callipers.

Combined analogue and digital instruments, carefully located electrical components and an LED tail lamp all help to reduce weight and improve durability. Special attention has been paid to ease of riding and comfort.

But will it go into production? Or is it already?

2008 GT650X - It's Official

Cycle World Magazine announced that the Hyosung GT650X will be availiable in the US this fall as an early 2008 model. When pictures of the Bimota inspired Hyosung first showed up on korider in October 2006 it was met with very positive reviews. I think many people are excited to see Hyosung differentiate themselves from the SV650 series.

The face of Hyosung has been changing quickly over the past few years. Hyosung is the fastest growing motorcycle brand in Australia. New models are being launched, the aftermarket is growing, opinions are becoming more positive and the dealer network is growing. Judging by the rumors I hearing there is a lot more good news coming this year. It is turning out to be an exciting year for Hyo!

Hyosung reveal production GT650X

New bikes

Hyosung has revealed the production version of the GT650X concept revealed at the NEC show one year ago.

The finished motorcycle uses the latest version of Hyosung’s 647cc 90° v-twin, but uses a new electronic fuel injection system to ensure it meets emissions regulations, and a new oil cooler keeps temperature more controlled.

The tubular steel/aluminium trellis frame is new and unique to the GT650X, and is matched to a new heavily braced aluminium swingarm. New lightweight aluminium five-spoke wheels with a fat 180/55 ZR17 rear tyre are also unique to the GT650X, and four-piston calipers operate on 300mm discs.

The motorcycle’s styling takes cue from streetfighter designs, with an aggressively styled headlight and nose cowling, with a sharp seat unit and small side pods on the frame completing the simple design. The instruments mix analogue and digital displays, and a low-slung stubby exhaust and LED tail light finishes off the up-to-date styling. The bike will be officially unveiled next week at the NEC show - for more information, see next weeks’ MCN, out November 21. We’ll also be videoing this motorcycle and every other new motorcycle at next week’s NEC show – click back to the site from next Thursday to see the video.

Man - that is a beautiful machine. The rear fender is completely different - and the extended plate bracket looks much better. Im not a personal fan of the new headlight - but it fits the look like theres no tomorrow! (I would've opted for the dual headlight/spotlight look - but it leaves the door open for me to design a factory replacement part - hahaha). The whole bike has so many subtle changes - its incredible.

cant wait til Nate sees it - might be the direction hes looking to go :)

I've been watching the developing story of this sexy bitch for a while now! The only thing that I don't like about it is the EFI. Call me old fashioned if you will, but I like a carb that I can break into to tune to my liking.

OLD FASHIONED !!!

Hey Old Fashioned, I love the no fuss reliability of EFI and if set up right in the factory the smooth power delivery.

Dave - November 15, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
Old fashion or not, it is a great looking bike. I think it would have to replace the basic GT because why would anyone buy the GT650 if the GT650X was available. Hopefully it will give the established sport bike riders a run for their money. :evilgrin1:

I was refering to old fashioned here.

I would think it will sell for around the same price as the GT650R due to higher cost components so there could be room for the GT650 for the budget rider.

the difference between the stock GT650 naked and the GT650X are hard to really see until the two are side by side. Then you notice every inch of the bike has been tweaked. My hats off to HYO for this version - absolutely perfect!

As usual you should see some of the comments at a ''American'' Ducati forum about the ''CHEAP CHINESE DUCATI'' Knockoff !!

:soapbox:

patsparks - November 16, 2007 06:57 PM (GMT)
Yep, they should take them out of production shouldn't they?

We have enough dickheads in this world no need to produce any more.

AmishCrackDealer - November 16, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
ahhh - let them talk... it just makes it soooooo much sweeter when they have to eat crow for talking smack outta school - hahahahaha

:hahaha:

The "Ducatista" (How pretentious does that sound?) crowd are some real angry SOB's aren't they. The only thing I can connect it to is perhaps fear that there overpriced italian rattle box may not get the attention they think it should.

The Ducati mob definately like their bikes, but they also have their heads in the clouds as well (I was going to say that they have their heads up their arse- but thats a bit harsh). They in most case's complain about every factor of the bikes we know so well, although I got a laugh out of it when they regularly referred to Hyosung as Chinese. The complaints about the quality of the bikes (lack of quality is one thing Ducati has always been famous for), the cheap prices we paid etc. When I decided to buy a new bike I was not set on any particular brand, my better half didnt care as long as I didnt have to spend all of my time working on it to keep it on the road. That aspect alone knocked some of them off my list, but what I was looking for was value for money. The actual price of the bike was not an issue nor was the depreciation factor because its my intention to keep this bike for a loooong time. Needless to say in the end I got a GV650, and its been everything I have ever wanted in a bike, I havent come across any of these quality issues the Ducati set seem to highlight to one and all. The frame, paintwork, engine, gearbox etc, they all seem pretty good to me, I must have a special one because I think the quality is pretty good. Yes there have been warranty issues for some, such as the fuel tank problem experienced by a number of our members. But to Hyosungs credit, they have address the problem fairly quickly and replacements have been made readily available and it was the same for the handle bar mounting bolt situation. I am pretty sure that Ducati like everyone else has had their warranty issues as well. The only thing I hate about Hyosung is that they keep bringing out some great bikes such as the 30th Anniversary GV650 and the GT650X, but I can only have one and like I said I bought my bike with the intention of having her for a long time. The big difference between us and groups like the Ducati element is that we do not generally complain and bag the other brands of bikes. We will discuss aspects that we like or dislike, but I dont think that anyone has said that a particular bike is shit so therefore the company that makes it is crap too. In the end I think our group lives up to our name (PIWYR) and the fact that we can appreciate the differences in others as well. And one last point, "I like Ducati's" they look, handle and sound great but its a GV650 for me :evilgrin1:
