fed up.....my newly aqquired Gv250 will only run with the choke , as soon as i touch the throttle it dies!! it was running fine thursday when i rode it back , and friday when i went ouut for a ride. all ive done since is clean it! and now it will only run on the choke, I checked the breather tube under tank make sure its not kinked, also tried running with fuel cap open but no joy I think these are remedies for a different problem though. can anyone explain what may be wrong or what may be the cause, from detective work I have done on the net a blocked jet sounds like a similar problem. Im no great mechanic so would like to know what may be the cause , so if I have to call someone out I can make sure they dont charge me for work that doesnt need doing. thanks for your help....paul

maybe water in the fuel? Did you use a pressure washer?
Maybe water in ignition? I'm just guessing.

Paul, you have a warranty so there shouldn't be a charge. You got it new from memory? 2 year warranty from new even if you got it second hand.

no only did some polishing , no water, and its about 5-6 year old so no warranty, bummer eh :crap:

UPDATE, local mechanic is coming to look at my baby tomorrow, he said some hyosungs a while ago had a problem with badly cast carbs from the factory but more than likely mine will have a blocked carb/fuel system, he quoted me a good price for fixing this, so things are looking up. cheers...paul

Sorry to hear about your running issues Paul. Please keep us updated as it will be interesting to find out what the cause was.

I second that.

well , mechanic came today and took my baby off in his "Ute" he thinks it will be something simple, will be glad to get it back anyway, he was quite impressed with it actually , which was pretty cool coming from a victory owner. will let you know when I am back on the road...thanks for concern ...paul

Its Now Running ok, The mechanic said the carbs were full of muck, which also caused the plugs to foul, a big problem though was the fuel pump which had some corrosion on the terminals or something as its placed behind where the rear wheel can shoot water onto it, so he cleaned it up and put a drain hole in the bottom. he laso replaced the plugs and cleaned the carbs and changed the oil as petrol had got into it from the mucky carbs. all i have to do is spray some stuff on the fuel pump thing and seal the little tub its housed in with some silicone, which i will do another day, also put in a new oil filter as he didnt have one. wonder if you get a rubber gasket with them or do you buy that seperate. anyway its running nicely now but cost me £140 UK which was a bit of a nuisance as I am very short on cash. hopefully now it will serve me a long while before any thing else needs doing gotta clean it all up again now. will post a pic soon. I plan to use it mainly in the dry too. Has anyone tried ACF-50 on here????? google it , it sounds fantastic stuff, apparently the US Navy use it on the aircraft on their carriers as it is excellent in preventing water/salt/corrosion etc. i thought it would be great for my fuel pump prob and other stuff on the bike.. take care all....Ride Free........paul

Good to hear your problems have been overcome Paul. Although you didn't get out of it without spending some cash, I guess it could have been much worse. A bit of advice when you change your oil filter, I had no end of trouble with oil seeping from the cover, even from new. Make sure the seal is aligned correctly and the cover refitted evenly.

The oil filter O ring seal isn't included with the filter.
Glad you got it sorted but the cost was a bit steep.
Richard Jordan is the best place to get parts in the universe. Best thing to do IMHO is buy several filters and a few O rings to cut postage cost per unit, or get his GV250 Essentials Kit : $110US Including shipping ! - You save 16% off wholesale prices! Kit Includes: Oil Filter, Oil Filter O ring set, Air Filter, Clutch Cable, Speedo Cable, Rear Brake Pads, Front Brake Pads, Replacement Headlight Bulb

By the way, there may be a problem with the electric fuel pumps on the early GV250s because Richard sells the later pumps as an upgrade. They are vacuum powered.
