Title: How has your Venox been for you?
Description: +'s and -'s of ownership
pops - May 28, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
Well I have over 10,000 KM on my Venox, most of the time over 55 ( There are school zones you know) . Other than oil changes I have replaced the turn signal flasher, one fuse, Cam chain adjuster ( Waranty), Water temp sensor in radiatior.
tail light bulb. It just keeps going smooth and nice just like the day I bought it. Even with a solid rear wheel rim. I will let you know if I find any vibrations to speak of. It corners so well I could get in serious trouble with it. I love the compliments I get on it even from riders of American made twins. Sometimes at work when it is going rough the thing that makes the day go by is knowing I will be riding it home.

And Pops, that's just how it should be. :D

The only "problem" that I have had after +30,000 km. is the gas light comes on after about 230km and then I have to fill up the tank with gas.... :P

HAD TO FILL UP WITH GAS..AGAIN !!! ....
SEEMS TO BE A REACURING PROBLEM....
I RIDE FOR 230-240 KM AND THE FILL GAS LIGHT COMES ON ...

See if you can get the bike on the train. It cuts fuel consumption dramatically. I tried but they said it wasn't a bicycle.
obxbiker - June 19, 2006 10:44 AM (GMT)
No trains here....but I do put it on the ferry between islands.
patsparks - June 19, 2006 10:47 AM (GMT)
Are you including that mileage, it would help. I think fuelling a vehicle is like routine maintenance.

Hey Pops...back to a serious question.
In your original post you mentioned about "fixing" your turn signals...
Had my first issue after 3 years and 30,000+km yesterday with my yellow venox.
Pulled into work and was followed by the cop (who I had posted about who had stopped me (RAY) and asked me what I was riding)....he had been following me for about 5 mi's and said I should use my turn signals when changing lanes.
Turns out the signals are not working all the time....what do you suggest ?

If it works once in a while and don't once in a while, I would have the bike turned off and take some contact cleaner,
(make sure the can says plastic safe, which I never seen a can of contact cleaner not plastic safe, but doesn't hurt to make sure)[SIZE=1]
Anyways, spray the HECK in the blinker swith and also turn them on and off and spray it some more and turn them in the on and off position again. Than make sure its dry before you power the bike up and try them:)
Happy riding:)
About How the Venox has beed treating me?
GREAT, only problem are tightening the chain and if I overfill the gas on a sunny day it then forms like a vapor lock.
By the way. I am going to be selling my Venox.. Not because of any problems, but I need to pay off my new bike 2006 Hyosung Avitar 650
Take care and always drive safe:)

:old: At almost 12,000km, dealer has had to replace the shift shaft seal twice; stator(original wire pinched/shorted between cyl and fauxfins); seal threads on sending unit on top of case; replace lower triple tree and steering shaft (stripped by tech while tightening steering head); replaced tank overflow valve, removed all smog equipment, and finally drilled hole in gas cap to remedy summer vapor lock problem. All wty.
Also, replaced tail bulb, adjusted chain twice, and 3 oil changes. And right now, she's running BETTER than new!

I met skiing49er today. He does almost look like that smiley :old: :old:
except the beard isn't quite that long, more hair on top, no cane, and his finger wasn't always in the air. I wished I could have seen him on the scooters :moped: when he needed them for loaners.
All in fun, JW. Thanks for the chance to ride the 'nox.

No kidding on the plastic thing. I got a can of some pretty powerful stuff at Fry's once, and tried it on some LPADs on an old set of speakers. I thought for sure they were toast, all scratchy and barely working. It fixed them totally, but melted the plastic case on the first one. I just was more careful with the others. These are at least 20-year-old speakers. But in retrospect, I have never had a contact cleaner work so well on controls like that. Many work for a while and the problem comes back. And WD-40, you can forget it in most of my experience, but it might do OK if there's just something that needs to be blasted away, and the contact will be able to self-clean after that.
Still I wouldn't use that same stuff I used on my speakers anywhere near a motorcycle, unless I had the contacts themselves well quarantined.
My $0.02.

The only problem I've had is the left indicator (winker) wont work. I've tried cleaning it, but still no joy. Any ideas.
Also has anyone tried the new sprocket conversion kit on www.eptguzzi. com site yet, as I'm really interested in this.

I helped put together an order for the ClubVenox members(Spain) (about 12) but to keep cost down they were shipped by boat so I do not think they have done it yet.
Serveral others here have also done it and everyone reports GREAT RESULTS !!

Hi OBX, Happy Thanksgiving,
Are you planning to "do it" too? The sprocket thing that is.
Myself, I'm still sold on the built in overdrive. :ok: Good for fuel economy when conditions are right. Then, for more power, drop her down into 4th and wail ! 80 to 85mph in 4th is plenty fast enough to negotiate even Oklahoma interstates! The truckers here avg 80 ! And the troopers look the other way most of the time.
POPS, :old:
Does it require a chain modification or replacement to use the larger sprocket, or is there enough slack in the chain adj slot?
Now if you're hauling a passenger a lot, and/or lots of accessories ie; luggage, shields, fairings, deflectors, crashbars with hiway pegs, etc. You know, stuff that creates a lot of drag, I can see dropping the final gearing for more power overall.
I'm by myself most of the time, And at 5-10, 175lb, I'm in heaven with the stock gearing. :woohoo:
obxbiker - November 24, 2006 07:56 AM (GMT)
Am planning to do it on my Black Venox as part of the complete make over.
The kit comes with a new chain.
skiing49er - November 25, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
Am looking forward to seeing the new look. Is Amish any closer to picking it up? If The wife were to take an interest in trips with me I'd be inclined toward the sprocket too. I'd have to do the seat mods before that'll ever happen. An inch of foam isn't enough for some Venox passengers. :IDidn'tDoIt!:

Actually, I was lied to by the dealiar. House of Kawasaki in Oklahoma City, removed the fuel overflow checkvalve and left the 2 inch hose for the tank to vent through. Which allowed any overflowing gasoline to run on to the top of the engine!
I added a 3 ft. piece of tubing, routed under the tank to discharge any overflow down behind the swingarm pivot.

Well, So far, I have added the factory lightbar, Optronics driving lights, Highwayhawk floorboards, Memphis Shades windshield, factory sissybar and luggage rack, Stebel horns, factory crashbars, Emgo O-Ring pegs, slant saddlebags, kuryakin plate frame with LED brake light, and 2N21 custom exhaust from FITHGEARCUSTOMS.COM
I've got over 14,000 km now with no serious breakdowns! Remember, Nov 2, 06, I said...

Since then a mishap caused me to change windshields, handlebers, crashbars, mirrors and headlight bucket.
I'm doing weekend rides ranging from 150 miles to around 300 miles. Riding alongside nothing smaller than 1500cc. I often take the lead! The Venox is still Awesome!

(Slightly Off-Topic)
Hey John,
Looking at that pic of your Venox, I'm reminded how well that motor does considering the bike weighs what, 420lbs dry? The lightest VStar-650 is listed at 474lbs. I'm thinking the HP difference is 28 vs maybe 40? But the V-Star is all torque and little top-end. The Venox is pretty even on that I reckon.
I happened to be at a Yamaha dealer today.
Oh and John, I'm out of "school" and the kids aren't. Maybe we can meet up sometime in the next couple weeks. (But if it has to be a weekend that really limits us.)
Later,
Mike D.

Ladies and Gents
Sorry I havn't been around for a while but I've had two glorious weeks in the Isle of Man for the TT Racing. Over152,000 bikers attended and over this period my Venox covered over a thousand miles with no problems what so ever. which more can I say for for some of the other members of the gang that went. The Venox caused a lot of interest over there as its not a common bike in the UK. The weather was fantastic only one day of rain. (A marvel for the TT)
On returning home it was a quick change before flying down to the Falklands for the 25th Anniversary where it was wet, windy, and emotional by all that attended from both sides.

I just want to say I love this bike!. I must admit it's only my second bike. My first was a Virago 700 which I rode for years. The Nox is my first after a six year stretch. I considered trading up in the beginning. I've clocked a little over 1,000 km's since then and joined this forum and now you couldn't pry the grips out of my hands if you tried. This forum has opened up the door for me to a "whole new worls of alternative cruisers". I haven't had to research a single thing. It's all right here on Piwyr! You guys do a fantastic job on the site and I really look foreward to the changeover to zeta.
Anyway getting back to topic... I bought my Venox for fuel economy. All it had to do was take me to work, but it does oh so much more! It may not win any races, and it may not have the "roar" or the power of the big bikes, but I've gained an appreciation for the v-twin 250 class. I've learned so much here for example, the Honda Magna being the design platform for the Nox and the interchangeable parts, and the fact that it is the only v twin in it's class to have dual oh cams and 4 valve per cyl. producing 28 hp while othors in it's class just don't measure up. Those HD guys can snicker all they want, but where are they when it rains? I laugh with the guys at work after an HD leaves. I approach the lingering crowd that was admiring it and say "hey you wanna see a real bike now?.. my bike is so "bad ass" that it goes back and forth to work EVERY DAY!, not just when it's sunny!" :hahaha:
I bought mine used from a dealer who thought it had 3500 miles on it (not km)instead of 1900 miles (needless to say I won't be going back there), and it already had the light bar, shield, bags and backrest on it, which I removed all but the light bar after a few weeks because it just looks so cool without all that. Then I took and posted photos. This past weekend I serviced the bike and put all the covenience/comfort features back on. I think they are on to stay, as it is my daily rider and I sure I don't have to tell you about the advantages of the bags and windshield.
I plan on putting on the crash bar and maybe the foot boards, but I don't know about the sprocket now. I did the "baffle mod" (which does make it sound like a beast) just to "pipe it up" a bit 'till I have the cash for the shotgun pipes(which I really like the look and sound of from TonyDt's photos and video). Now that I've done that, and can hear the bike on the highway, I'm very conscious of the rpm's (sounds pretty wound up at hwy speed) and I wonder what effect the sprocket mod will have (I think I can see a tach in my near future) . I know you guys that have it swear it's the best mod you can do, but I really don't have any trouble with the stock gear. (I know you've posted that subject to death, but anymore input?)
Overall, I love this little machine and feel I've made a good purchase. It has instilled the "bug" in me again that I used to have when I was a first time rider on my Virago. Does anyone watch the youtube vids. from club venox? Makes me want to go to Spain and ride there! Those guys just look so happy on their group rides. Wish I could get something like that going here. It's so hard to even initiate for me, being a blue collar worker without a lot of time off, having a young family with a low budget and all.
Anyway, I'll soon post some pics. of my Nox WITH the accesories, and I'll try to post the baffle mod too. Whew!! Time to wrap this up! too long winded! and it only counts as one single post. :crap: ... Happy cruising, y'all! :moto:
mojo75 - July 1, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Glad to hear you enjoy your Venox. If you are happy with it the way it is I would say keep it like it is. The sprocket swap is great and does help at highway speeds. Or if you live in a hilly area. It also helps if there is alot of wind. But if you are happy and dont feel like you need it. Then just ride the wheels off of it. I am a big guy 300+ lbs. so the sprocket has made life with the Venox even better. As with anything it all depends on you.

We have a lot of the videos posted here...on the PHOTOS/VIDEOS Kymco board.
I have been a member there for almost 3 years even though I can not read Spainish.
As Scott says on the sprocket... its all up to you.
I do know quite a few Clubvenox members have done if to cope better with the mountain rides you see in those vids.

Thanks Mojo! Yours too. I agree, gotta have the bags. I just don't like the way the stock pipes point at the r/s bag. That's why I eventually want to get the shotgun pipes. (I know about the FGC 2n21 but I'm still trying to decide.)

Anthony, love the 'clean' no badge look of your Nox...
Have you considered 'blacking out' the 'Fax engine fins' and/or adding ''chrome'' edge trim to it ?
Its easy to do.
obxbiker - July 2, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
On my yellow nox I made them red...

On 'OBnoXious' Venox tan with ''chrome trim'' edging..

annox - July 3, 2008 12:12 AM (GMT)
Wow! I don't know about the blacking out part, but I do like the chrome edging. What do you use for something like that?
Both your Noxes look great. The care and attention to detail shows.
Thanks for the "clean" "no badge" comment. I do that because I actually like being asked the million dollar question. Besides, it's good to keep em guessing. :hahaha:
