Title: "OBnoXious'" has been changed !!!
Description: Defenitly an "upgrade" Dave...
obxbiker - May 3, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
This is how "she' looked the last time everyone saw her...

Sorry I do not have a camera right now to take photos of the change so this is what was done...
Two days ago Donnie (Dave, he's the one who could have gotten you a free vendor space..) was looking at the bike and loving it.
When he said:
""ten years ago I put somewhere in my garage a 1939 Indian solo seat that would look great on that bike""
Well this is the closest photo I can find, it is a tan/brown leather with HUGE coil springs. The seat is molded to fit your butt with a up turn at the back.
It does not have the holes or writing on it as in this photo.
It is in excellent condition!!!

I was able to use the same front mounting bracket,barely...
The rear mount for the back springs mounted on the fender, the mounting bracket that the springs are attached to has a "twist' in it that matches the fender shape exactly !! It looks like it was made for it !!
The HUGE coil springs make the ride unbelevable !! Even better than a bike with rear shock absorbers. You would have to ride one to understand the "floating sensation" (up, down...right, left).

Not only does it LOOK FANTASTIC.....but it was FREE !!

Cool, That ought to work great George! The brown fits too! Now, if you could find a rifle scabbard....
obxbiker - May 3, 2007 05:34 AM (GMT)
MURS said in the shout box:"" Nice seat George""
The bikes or..... :AmishCrackDealing!:
patsparks - May 3, 2007 07:51 AM (GMT)
That's brilliant George. The leather seat would be just the ticket.
Can't you borrow a camera from the neighbours?
AmishCrackDealer - May 3, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
cool - no issues with mounting the springs on the rear fender?
the seat sounds awesome! they were too expensive when we started the build - upwards of $600 with the hardware. FREE is always better :P
need pics!!!
now we ought to dump the hardcases and find some brown leather throw-overs....
what about the carbs?
(so whatcha gonna do wit the solo seat??? ;) :P )

The bar the springs are mounted to has a twist in it that fits the fender like it was made for it.It mounts right where the fender starts to curve up.It needed to be lower and farther back then the original mounting as the springs are so LARGE.The only issue was I could not find my metal drill bits :crap: .

Stopped by and talked to Mark and he said he would get to it.Currently just running with the choke out and idle high...Can't seem to stop riding it long enough to take it in....

I had that kind of "tractor seat" on my old 1948 Harley FLH years ago. I could ride hours on it without stopping!. Anyhow, I hate these "modern saddles" since before a hour goes by, I feel like I'm having a proctologist exam!! (ow, ow, ow!!)
I've been trying to figure a way to get that same kind of seat to fit my GV650 for months now. I finally opted to try to adapt a Harely police solo from a Road King (the one with the air bladder suspension!). I got one off eBay on Thursday. I know I'll have to cut it down a bit -- more on the length than the width, and I'll have to fabricate brackets and mounts for the air system. If it works, I'm going to want a tan colored cover on it as well.

EXACTLY !!! :ok: ...its the only type of solo seat to have, reguardless if the bike ia a HARD TAIL or has suspension..

I was real lucky on this seat as the front barely fit..no additional brackets were needed.
My son is down this weekend so we took the bike to the Colington Harbor and took a half a doz. new photos, some out on a pier, but with all having the Harbor as a background...
The bad news is he did not bring the cables so I can download to my computer so I will have to wait till later this week when he sends them to me in a email. :crap:
AmishCrackDealer - May 5, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
no problem - looking forward to seeing it - what'd your son think?

AmishCrackDealer - May 10, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)

Very well done, George!!!
obxbiker - May 10, 2007 03:58 AM (GMT)
Now I need to "change out " the rear mud guard to a TAN COLORED LEATHER...am also looking to get a black leather covering for the battery area...
IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER IN PERSON !!!!

patsparks - May 10, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't the foot plates from an old wheeled gun look great? Actually I'm thinking the gunner positions in a ww11 aircraft would have had footplates but I'm not sure.

like ???
patsparks - May 10, 2007 04:19 AM (GMT)
You beat me, I eddited that. I was thinking I had seen a gun displayed that had flip up foot plates but can't find an example.
What I recall seeing had a pair of foot plates for the guy who aimed the gun. They flipped up to allow him to dismount. I'm going on a 3 year old memory here. I recall a grid type affair, semi-circular and hinged on the straight side.

aha !!!
AmishCrackDealer - May 10, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
the turret guns on the battleships had footplates - they looked liek the things you measure your show size with at shoe stores - not a bad idea, Pat!
I was thinking some standard, easy to bolt on, floorboards - hahaha
patsparks - May 10, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
Another edit of last post.
Too easy Dave!
obxbiker - May 10, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
COOL...YOU GOT SOME HANDY !!!????
AmishCrackDealer - May 10, 2007 06:36 AM (GMT)
time to check ebay baby!!! woohooo
patsparks - May 10, 2007 07:10 AM (GMT)
No I haven't but a clever fabricator could make em I reckon.
Here is a sketch of what I was thinking of.
obxbiker - May 10, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
huuuummmm...and anybody know of a "Master Builder Clever Fabricator " ???? :hey:
AmishCrackDealer - May 10, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
they wouldn't have to hinge like the originals.... there has to be some aftermarket ones already out there - I've seen half circle ones froom Kuriakyn - could remove the rubber pad that comes with them and paint it with undercoating... Would be a killer addition!
patsparks - May 10, 2007 01:33 PM (GMT)
I was thinking that open grate sort of look as that would resemble the gunner foot plates but the more I think about what you say Dave the more I like the idea with the right boards.
AmishCrackDealer - May 10, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Like this style - but remove the rubber padding and paint it with the rubberized undercoating...
ebay listing

Dave, I thought the job you did on Dick's floorboards was pretty cool... :ok:
obxbiker - May 10, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)

I was thinking of a large "faux" air cleaner cover mounted over the choke... Course, right now you need easy access to the choke...
