How hard would it be to fabricate a hinged hardtail incorporating a unishock up under the seat? :old:

I was looking into that. I dont think ther dimensions will work. There will have to be a new straight bar with a bracket built onto the swingarm assembly - then another bracket wounted from the frame, under the front section of the seat. To get the right strength for this type of suspension, there would need to be several angular supports fabbed up and then you have to relocate the Battery, CDI, and other electronics which are currently under the seat.
From what I'm seeing now - I dont think its a doable thing. I'll no more after this weekend's disassembly...

:old: From My limited experence a new frame would almost be easier.
dMy two cents

Too bad... I was hoping Dave could whip up something cool and with more travel. Would different shocks possibly help?

Yeah - it would definately require relocating the electronics and teh battery. If those were moved somewhere else - you could easily do teh mono hidden shock. But as it is - it would be 2 months of work to get to that point.
On the new shop bike - we're replacing the shocks with solid struts that are about 3/4 the height of the shock. I am also planning on adding fork extensions to the front - so it should be pretty radical. Instead of suspension for the bike - the seat will be palced on springs - so teh rider doesnt lose kidney functions - hahaha.
If you can locate a different shock - it can make a huge difference in ride quality. However, depending on what you do - you might have to adjus your lights, repalce or tighten your chain, etc...
I would suggest adding a gelpad under the stock seat cover - makes a world of difference in ride. If your trying not to bottom out while riding 2-up, then swapping shocks of adjusting them so they are very stiff - would be the best thing to do.
sorry its so long winded.. :P

Thanks Dave, That's the kind of feedback I was looking for. Better to ask and learn before throwing away $ on something that won't work...John
