Are you ready?

These powers bleed your tears
The darkness calls your name
I'm staring down your fears
There's pleasure in this pain

Don't think you are alone
'Cause soon I think you'll find
I am the voice you hear
Screaming inside your mind

I get inside your mind
I hypnotise

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
There's no reality
Just this world of illusion
That keeps on haunting me

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak

There's only so many reasons you could even call someone a mindfreak, but I'm different. I am the mindfreak. It's sort of my nickname, and for good reasons. I freak people's minds, for I am an illusionist. You could call me a 'magician', but I prefer not to. I love to entertain others, keep them always guessing at what I am going to do next. Unfortunately, I have scars along my pelt from my stunts and such, which is why I always warn others to never attempt anything I do...It just might kill you.

I'm your typical stallion I suppose, with just some minor differences. I look like an average stallion, only about half my actual age. I'm told all the time that I look like I am only six or seven years old, but at twice that age, everyone is shocked. I've noticed that mares really don't seem to care though, and flock to me. Kind of annoying. Yes they are pretty and everything, and some I could see myself having a relationship with. The annoying part is when they try and throw themselves at me to carry their foal. But I don't want foals, not yet at least. I love foals, I'm just not ready for one of my own. That's why I've avoided claiming any mares. Sure, I'll have a relationship with them, but nothing official.

So I've come here, to the common lands. I don't exactly belong to a herd just yet, and I certainly don't belong in the claiming grounds. But here, I can meet anybody willing to have a conversation. I could also practice my work. You see, a lot of what I do is real. And a lot of it is illusion, I try and blur the line. It is up to you to figure out which is which. Everything from levitation high in the air, to disappearing and making things disappear, to scaring the crap out of others with stunts. There are skeptics against me, but I don't have a problem with it, I love what I do...

My ego pushes you
It's never satisfied
My will is cutting through
I see the truth inside

Don't think it's killing you
'Cause soon I think you'll find
You are the voice you hear
Screaming inside your mind

I get inside your mind
I hypnotise

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
There's no reality
Just this world of illusion
That keeps on haunting me

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak

How else am I a typical stallion? Well, I like to have fun. Though sometimes I can end up acting like a colt, what can I say, I'm a colt at heart. Um, I can be quite the flirt sometimes, can't help it though. Just comes naturally I suppose. I look pretty average, with a black coat with my few scars. Black daggers, and most of my tassle and mane being black. Though the ends of it are a copper-like red color. I rather like it, stands out a bit I guess. See, I'm a typical stallion. I'm not crazy. I'm not insane. I'm a normal equine, seriously.

I get inside your mind
I hypnotise
Are you ready?

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
There's no reality
Just this world of illusion
That keeps on haunting me

I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
I am the mindfreak
Mindfreak
Mindfreak
Mindfreak
Mindfreak

Are you ready?

Hazel optics looked around boredly before I gave a sigh, no one was around for now. Oh well, I suppose I could practice an illusion. It is a nice open place to practice. But then all I could really practice is levitation, nothing to make dissappear or anything. Muscles tensed as I pawed at the ground anxiously, trying to burn the energy I had but could not rid myself of.

I couldn't believe I was here. Why had I come, again? Did I seriously just want to make my life worse for my sons and myself? I sighed heavily, looking around. But honestly I had simply come here to talk with some other equines. Ever since the birth my two colts, I had grown a little bit anti-social. And now that we were pending for a new home in the Plains, so I had to make sure that I was ready. I nickered to the two dark colts to keep up - they were falling a bit behind.

"I'm tired of walking!" Pel complained. "Why did we have to go again?"

"Oh, pipe down," I reprimanded. "Be lucky that I've /allowed/ you to come, young man."

Pelops rolled his eyes but remained queit.

When we finally stopped to rest, Tel fell at my feet dramatically. He sighed heavily and closed his eyes, letting his weary limbs rest. "So . . . tired," he murmured.

Now I rolled /my/ eyes. The young colts could be so dramatic. Suddenly, I noticed a stallion nearby. My first impression was to run in the other direction, of course, but I overcame my fear as I reminded myself why we had come here. I sniffed the air slightly in recognition of his presence, but I didn't make any move towards him. His large, black bod was enough to keep me at bay.

The voices of foals reached my ears before anything else, a small smile coming to my muzzle as I looked back over my shoulder. From beneath my red tinted forelock I watched the trio, feeling a bit sorry for the mother. Foals were wonderful, but also a handful with just one alone. Twins only makes it that much difficult, already I had some respect for the mother.

While they stopped and stared at me, I nickered a friendly hello to the small group. I found it rather odd about them watching me from their distance, but I didn't push it. I overheard one of the colts mentioned how tired they were of walking. Ah, they would be perfect practice for levitation! What small colt wouldn't want to experience floating about in the air.

Carefully I approached the group, not wanting the mother to shy away from me. "Good afternoon Miss...Been walking a while I take it?" I said to the mare, offering a soft smile as I stopped several feet away. I felt like kicking myself for a moment, before dipping my muzzle to her. "Eh, forgive me. My name's Criss Angel..."

((Thought I'd let it be known that anyone can bring a charrie here still at any time, doesn't matter if they are in a herd or anything))

Pel rasied his brown hues to gaze upon the stallion. He nickered in return - questioning and welcoming at the same time. "Who's that, mama?" he asked without looking at me.

"Well, how would I know that, dear?" I replied. "I have no idea who he is." I peered at him curiously, perking my ears to the strange new stallion. As he began to walk towards them, she looked to the ground, not knowing whether it was rude to watch him or not.

Tel perked an ear to the side and then lifted his head to gaze upon the stallion as well. "He looks nice," he muttered, blinking his blue eyes wearily.

As the stallion finally reached them and spoke, I managed a small smile as well. At least he wasn't too overbearing - not yet, anyway. "Yes, we've been traveling for a while. It's nice to meet you, Criss Angel. My name is Cassandra."

Suddenly Pel stepped between us. "I'm Pelops," he butted in. "But you can call me Pel. And this is my brother, Teledamus." He peered up at the dark stallion. He was so fascinated by his large, masculine figure. He had not seen anything like it in what seemed like ages.

"And you can call me Tel, if you like," Teledamus piped up, finally standing back on his feet and eyeing the stallion as well.

I chuckled at the twins, Pel and Tel. They were certainly curious about me, but at their age it's no surprise. Interesting names, indeed. "Pleased to meet all of you, you may just call me Criss if you want." I smiled at them, before looking back up towards Cassandra. "I couldn't help but overhear that your sons are tired from travelling, but I thought of a way to brighten their moods. If one of them is willing, I'd like to show you an illusion. I know it sounds odd, but it's what I do. I'm an illusionist...I'd like your permission above all though, then theirs, of course. If it makes you feel any better, I won't touch them at all." I said cautiously, knowing how mothers could be. If some random stallion came up to me and said 'let me have your foal float in the air', I'd look at them like they were insane.

I rather hope she allowed it, but if she didn't, I would bid good-day and be on my way. But the colts were already so fascinated by me, I could only imagine their reactions of one of them levitating...

Before I could reply, Tel suddenly burst forward. "Ooh! Ooh! Do me! Do me!" he squealed in excitement.

"No, me!" Pel added, pushing his brother and trying to get between Pel and Criss. "I'm smaller! I'd be better! Ooh, Criss, pick me!"

"Boys!" I practically screamed over them. "Who says I'm going to let you play your little 'games' anyway?"

Suddenly, both boys were turned once more towards me. "Oh, come on, mom!" Tel pleaded.

"Yeah, please?" Pel agreed.

I sighed heavily and looked back to Criss. "They won't be harmed, right?" I asked him, my eyes soft.

The twins looked up at Criss with hopeful eyes. "We won't get hurt, will we, Criss? Come on, tell her!"

sassaboo - February 20, 2008 09:56 PM (GMT)
I couldn't help but chuckle again at the twins reactions, smiling at them as I stepped backwards. "It's up to your mother. If she says yes, you can take turns." Looking above them to Cassandra, I gave a nod of my head. "You have my word, no harm will come to them, aside from bruises from shoving each other around." I flashed a smile, towards the foals. They'd have to be still for me to do the illusion anyways, so why not start now?

W Smack - February 20, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
I couldn't help but smile at his reply. But I couldn't let him now that I found him charming, so I glanced down to the two foals. "Ok," I muttered. "Tel, you can go first. Then you can go, Pel."

"Yes!" Tel exclaimed, practically levitating on his own. "Ok, where do you want me?" he asked, going to stand at Criss' side proudly.

"Aw, mom!" Pel complained. He shuffled his feet and grumbled angrily as he moved to stand at my other side, away from his brother.

"Oh, don't whine or you won't get a turn at all," I warned him. Then I looke once more to Criss. "I'm excited to see what you have in store for us," I told him

sassaboo - February 20, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
Nodding to Cassandra before smiling down at Tel, I turned so I'd be facing him. Beginning to talk him through it, I kept a constant watch on him to make sure nothing would go wrong. "Alright, first, just stand there. Relax, and close your eyes. Relax...relax. Keep your legs straight, your hooves level with the ground..." As I spoke through the steps, the expression on my face had changed to serious, concentrating on the illusion. I won't go into detail on exactly how I had the young foal levitate, but while I had been talking, he had slowly begun rising. I kept him from going too high, stopping him around two feet off the ground or so.

I had stopped talking, focusing on keeping him there for several seconds before bringing him back down without any damage done. "Well done, why not a little bow for the audience? Then it's Pel's turn." I grinned, flicking my tail against my flank as I looked from Tel, to Cassandra, to Pel.

W Smack - February 20, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Tel did what Criss told him to do, and soon he opened his eyes and found himself levitating off the ground. A quick jolt of fear ran through him, but then he smiled, glancing at Pel and me. "Look at me!" he exclaimed.

My mouth fell open as I watched the oldest of the twins begin to float from the ground. "Oh, my Hercules," I muttered in suprise. My motherly insticts kicked in and I was immidiately worried, but I knew not to make any moves or Criss could drop the foal. I let out a gasp of air as Tel was grounded once more.

"Did you see me?" he asked, his eyes bright. "Mom, Pel, did you see me?"

"Yes, I saw you," I muttered, shaking my head. Even though he had only been lifted a few feet, I had been worried brainless. It was funny how motherly insticts kicked in at the strangest of times.

Pel didn't miss a beat. "My turn, my turn!" he cried, prancing foward and positioning himself in the space that Tel had just occupied.

sassaboo - February 20, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
I had figured as much that Cassandra would act the way she did, it was expected really. Grinning at Pel, I chuckled. "Alright, just do exactly what I told your brother. Relax." Once again I repeated the process I had with Pel, not looking away from the colt until all four of his hooves had reached the ground. Giving a small laugh, I looked at the twins and Cassanda. "Well, what did ya think?" I asked, mainly towards the boys as they were the ones who had gone through the performance. Cassandra was more than welcome to comment as well, though I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to catch her breath from worry. "But, for your own safety you have to promise me to never try it on your own."

W Smack - February 20, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
I smiled happily as Pel's feet returned to the ground as well. I also liked that he was making sure that the boys behaved themselves.

"Yes, sir!" Pel said jokingly.

"I promise," Tel agreed, nipping his brother's shoulder as if to reprimand him.

Pel nipped his brother back and muttered, "Don't touch me."

I smiled from my boys to Criss. "I assured you they enjoyed it," I told him. "They just don't know their manners. My grin grew wider as I stamped a rear hoof. "So where did you learn such magic?" I asked. "That's some talent.

sassaboo - February 20, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
I smiled, looking back up to Cassandra as she kept the conversation going. "Long time ago, I've practiced it most of my life. I don't really like to call it magic, I like to call it illusion. I try and make it to where it's up to the audience to decide whether it was real, or not. I started liking magic when I was a bit older than Tel and Pel, and it was my family that kept supporting it. I just kept it up, wanting to keep breaking my own records, to get better and better. If you set your mind to it, you can do anything you can dream of." I gave a sigh, memories going back to my family. I missed them, and my dad, who passed away some time ago. It was a touchy subject, but he was one of my biggest, if not my biggest, inspiration and idols.

"I decided to travel around, entertain others with what I love to do. Some are scared of what I do, others are amazed, it's everyone's choice to think what they want of me."

W Smack - February 21, 2008 09:08 PM (GMT)
I nodded in agreement. "That was well said," I commented, "You have quite a way with words, as well." I watched him out of the corner of my eye as I turned to my boys. "Don't either of you get any ideas, now, boys. Just because Sir Criss does it, doesn't mean that you should." I gave them my warning glance.

"I'll do whatever I want," Pel muttered crossly.

"I heard that, young man! Watch your manners towards your mother!" I nipped him reprimandingly.

Pel rolled his eyes, but I let it go. I had to pick my battles, nowadays.

Tel snickered quietly - he enjoyed seeing his brother get in trouble. "Well, that was fun!" he exclaimed, turning once more to Criss. "Do you know any other tricks - or, illusions, I mean?" He looked to Criss with his eyes bright - expectant for more fun.

sassaboo - February 22, 2008 12:42 AM (GMT)
Pel's disrespect towards his mother was certainly uncalled for, but at his age it's hard to realize that your family is all you have sometimes. Pel was lucky to have such a mother, in today's world it was a bit difficult to find. I had a feeling when he was older he'd actually miss his mother, despite his rebelling. I said nothing of it though, just listened to them quietly. As Tel became excited again and asked about what else I could do, I gave him a grin. "Oh I can do so many things to blow your mind, I'm a bit tired right now though. Maybe I'll show you some more things another day." I hadn't really thought about the chances of ever seeing this family again after today, but if they really wanted too, I wouldn't be that difficult to find. When others meet me, they typically remember me well, and from what I've heard, spread word of me. If our paths are to change, then all they'd have to do is follow the word of me, back to me.

W Smack - February 23, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
I smiled again at Criss. "Well," I muttered, "I suppose we should get going. You see, we're kind of . . . pending for a new home. So we'd better get going before we totally lose our chance." I nodded to the stallion, then nudged Pel and Tel. "Say goodbye, boys," I prompted them.

"Aw, do we have to go, mom?" Pel whined. "We were just beginning to have fun!"

"Don't you want a home, dumby? If we leave now, we may actually get one!" Tel cried, nipping his brother's shoulder again.

I rolled my eyes. "Seriously, boys, do you have to fight all the time? Let's just go, ok?" I nodded once more to Criss. "Maybe we'll see you around. The boys definitely had fun." I started to walk out of the meadow, motioning for the boys to follow.

"Bye, Criss!" Tel said, turning to follow me. "Hope to see you again soon!"

"Yeah, bye," Pel muttered, still angry that they were leaving. Then, he turned somber and said, "We did have a lot of fun."

And with that, we were gone once more. Off to whatever adventure was to come next. The truth was that no matter how rude Pel was, or how much Tel looked like his father, they were all I had in the world. And even though the twin boys had come to me in a rather untraditional manner, my motherly instinct made me love them all the same. I nuzzled them both lightly between their ears, rustling their short, stubby manes. However, both pulled away from me. But I wasn't detterred - you can't stop rebellion, right? But I knew that Tel and especially Pel would soon grow out of it . . . hopefully.

sassaboo - February 23, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
With a smile on my muzzle, I nodded to them all farewell. "See you around boys, I'm sure we'll meet again." I chuckled, looking up to Cassandra before she walked off. I didn't quite want them to leave, but I understood that if they needed to leave in order to have a home, I wasn't going to stop them. "I hope to see you again someday." With that, they walked off. But here I was standing alone in the common lands, without a home of my own...
