Description: 2nd Herd RP

W Smack - February 9, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
((OOC: Well, we've officially almost reached 10 pages, so I'm making a new Herd RP. So if you're part of the herd, post here. ;) ))

W Smack - February 9, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
The oldest filly of the herd, Calli, was running full out through the sandy terrain. She was playing with her younger half-sister, Lilly. The two still didn't understand how they could have two different mothers, but share the same father. But Calli wasn't worried about that. She was just glad she had someone to play with rather than her tempermental twin brother. She squealed in joy as she raced out over the land, circling and looping joyously under the intense, burning sun.

Cal, the alpha of the lands, watched his two daughters romping around through the sand. He was standing next to one of his mares, Belle. Next to her was his first and only son, Brego. He rustled his son's short mane playfully and nuzzled his mare. "How have you been?" he asked sweetly. He glanced over her shoulder to look at his other mare. Rose had just given birth and she was worn out. He was worried about her, but he had to catch up with Belle - besides, she was fine for now, she was just resting.

Mystery - February 9, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
"Finally you check up on me." I commented as Cal moved over and nuzzled me. I smiled in a playful way and tugged at his mane. "Of course they behaved, Calli was quite worried why you had left, but that was all the trouble I had." I glanced at Calli and Tiger Lilly as they ran off together. Frowning for a moment, I shook my head lightly. "Brego has gotten better." I muttered as I looked back at my side to find no Brego. My ears flipped up and eyes grew wide. Where had my colt gone to? "Brego?" I whinnied out, searching the vast desert. My brown grey eyes caught sight of him down at the oasis, playing in the water.

Brego stood there at the water's edge. Small hoof splashing playfully in the water, a smile on his face. Quiet giggles escaped his muzzle. Everything else going on around was unnoticed by the tiny colt, not even the new half-sister he had. He had already guessed that this new filly was going to be sharing his dad, but that was fine. Like dad even cares about me. He thought with a snort as he heard the squeals of the two fillies. Forgetting about that, he kept playnig until he heard a frantic whinny. Lifting his head, he looked at his mother with a sheepish smile. Turning around, he trotted back over to his mother and father. "Sorry mama." He muttered quietly.
"You worried me Brego."
"I'm sorry."
"Just don't leave without me knowing." I nuzzled him to make sure he was alright.
"Ok." He stood close to her and watched the two fillies play.
"Cal, I wish he stayed sick, At least he stayed close to me." I muttered as I pressed my head against his neck.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
Cal smiled down on his son. "Oh, he's just playing, right? Boys will be boys. I'm glad to see you've gotten better." He ruffled Brego's short mane playfully. He smiled at the beautiful mare before him - the mother of two of his children. He loved both of his mares so much. He couldn't possibly think of a happier time in his life. "So," he muttered. "What do you think of Tiger Lilly? A beauty, isn't she?" He smiled as he watched the fillies frolicking, then turned to Brego and Belle once more. "But not as handsome as you," he added, smiling to Brego.

Mystery - February 9, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
"He still worried me." I muttered and looked at Cal. "He never knew he was sick." I said softly seeing the confused expression on Brego's face. I nuzzled Brego along his back and the confusion swept away from his face. Smiling softly, I looked up at Cal. "I think she is quite beautiful." My eyes watched as both girls ran around in the sand, leaving dust clouds behind. Chuckling, the two fillies could almost look alike if it wasn't for Calli's soft white pattern covering her. I was proud to know Calli had some of my coloring.

Brego smiled proudly as his father's comment. "Of course I am handsomer then those two." He said as he nipped playfully at his father's knee. Feeling a sudden burst of playfulness, he giggled and stepped back away from Belle and stared at his father. Snorting, he pawed at the sand and half-reared into the air. Landing, he wobbled for a second before whinnying. He wanted to prove he could be just as strong as his face was.

abbydoodle96 - February 9, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
Rose Bud finally yawned and stood up, almost falling down at first. She walked over to Cal, Belle, and Brego, but watched as her first daughter played with Belle's daughter, Calli. She turned her attention to Belle and yawned. "How's Brego?" she asked, remembering how he was a bit sickly at first, but he looked better now. She nuzzled Cal, smiling.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
Cal nuzzled both of his mares lovingly, but then ran after his son. He whinnied playfully and tossed his head in the air. He half-reared as well and nudged Brego jokingly. "Come on!" he said, running out a little bit from the two mares. "Let's play!"

Mystery - February 9, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
"Alright." Brego said with a bright smile. Running after his father, he snorted. Skidding past his father, a cloud of sand rose. Standing in front of his father, he stood with his head high and tail raised. Pawing lightly at the sand, he whinnied loudly and ran toward his father, stopping right befor he collided; Brego nipped at his father's knees and turned away as quickly as he could. Half-rearing, he shook his head and landed firmly. A firey blaze flickered in his eyes as he breathed a bit heavily.

I looked at Rose as she approached with a warm smile. "He is very better seeing how he's playing now." I said, eyes watching Brego play around Cal. Smiling, a warmth grew in my heart. My son was going to grow up to be very strong. Watching the two males play, I shook my head lightly. Then I let my eyes go to where the two fillies ran about still having fun. They foals looked like they were havign so much fun.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Cal reared fully, towering over his son, but whinnying happily. He nipped at his son's rear, then bolted in the other direction, looking over his shoulder and nickering sillily at Brego. He stole a glance to his two mares as he waited for his son to catch up. They seemed happy, too. As he saw the fillies playing beyond, he had to wonder - was he ever going to be able to choose which one of them would be alphess?

Mystery - February 9, 2008 04:27 PM (GMT)
His head pulled back as his father towered above him. Amazed, he was still in a daze as his father nipped him and bolted off. Shaking his head, he whinnied and followed him at a run. Letting the sand kick up behind him, he gained up on his father who was watching his mom and Rose. Smiling, he came up behind Cal and tugged at his father's tail before spinning away and running toward the water with a happiness in his step.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
Cal whickered in surprise as Brego caught up with him. He was immidiately thrust back into the game and chased after his son once more. When Brego reached the oasis, he didn't hesitate to splash into the water with joy. He bucked and kicked, throwing his head up with happiness. He sent a wave of water towards his son by flicking his nose in the water, then splashed through the water to the other side so that Brego could not splash him back. He remembered when Rose and himself had first come here and played this same game.

Mystery - February 9, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
Brego too splashed into the water. Going as far as he could go, he kicked at the water and whinnied happily. Stopping as water sprayed him, he sputtered. Shaking his head, he stared at his father who ran to the other side. "No fair!" He whined as he stepped deeper into the water, his hooves kicked out to try and keep him up. Frightened, he somehow got into the shallower water. Breathing shallowly, he glanced at his mom before looking back at his father. Frowning, he stomped in the water, spraying it everywhere.

abbydoodle96 - February 9, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
Rose watched Cal play with his son, Brego, but stopped and looked at the ground when they began splashing each other in the water. She remembered when she just got here, that she and Cal played that game for a while. They were all alone, by themselves back then, and she sorta missed it, although she loved having Lilly around and the other foals for her to play with. She went back to her thoughts about her and Cal. She was so active and playful back then, but now she was just tired and...she felt boreing. She snorted and looked back up at them, shaking the thought out of her head.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 04:39 PM (GMT)
Cal walked closer to his son, his smile fading in worry. "Are you ok?" he asked, concerned. "Brego?" He blinked and snorted as he was splashed by Brego's sudden stomping. "Hey!" he cried, laughing again. "I'm sorry," he added, still worried as to if his son was ok. "Maybe we should rest for a while . . .?"

Mystery - February 9, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
"I'm fine." Brego insisted as he stared at his father with an angry expression. Stepping away from Cal, he didn't like the worried expression on his father's face. "No, I don't want to rest." He spat out with a snort, shaking his head. Just as stubborn as his mother was. Splashing water at Cal, he laughed and trotted a bit away. "I want to play." He said, stamping a hoof firmly. Raising his head up, he would go no where until his father agreed with him.

Belle watched the scene before her, going from worried to laughing. Brego was so stubborn, but she was worried what Cal would do. Would he be a father and tell him he needed to rest or a playmate and agree to keep playing? Worried again, he glanced at Rose for a moment and saw a weird look on the other mare's face before I looked back to Cal and Brego. I anticipated every step.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Cal was a bit taken aback by his son's sudden anger. "What a hot-headed temper you can have!" he mused, watching his son get back into the game. After what had happened, Cal wasn't really in a playful mood anymore. "I think I'm going to go talk with your mother and Rose for a little bit," he finally muttered. "If you want to play, you'll have to go and join your sisters." He walked out of the water, but watched his son carefully.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
The alpha joined his two mares. He nuzzled Belle long and lovingly, sighing heavily as he did so. He had something on his mind that he had to get out before he burst. His dark, soft eyes turned to Rose. "Rose, dearest," he murmured. "May I pull you away for a moment?" His face was blank as he looked back to Belle. "I'll be right back." He nuzzled her again, closing his eyes and taking in her familiar scent. He turned and sent an appologetic nicker to Brego, sorry that their game had been cut short - but this was important. Then he turned to Rose once more and led her away and out of ear-shot of the others.

abbydoodle96 - February 9, 2008 05:44 PM (GMT)
Rose Bud nodded to Cal and followed him out of Belle's ear shot. "What is it?" she said, getting curious of what he wanted to talk to her about. She couldn't think of anything that he'd want to ask, completeley(sp?) forgetting about Alphess stuff. She waited for his response, and she couldn't wait to see what he had on his mind. Her audda perked up, and and nickered, waiting for the answer.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
"Well," he sarted. "As you know, you and I have known each other for a long time, now. And I love you, which I know you know." He stopped, hesitating. He looked again to Belle. He knew he would have to pay for this later, but he truly felt deep down in his heart that this was somehow the right descision. "And now that we have three foals running about the place, I've been thinking of, well . . . of the empty alphess position."
He paused again, taking a deep breath and holding it. Well, here goes nothing. He looked deep into her blue eyes with his dark brown ones and asked, "Rose Bud, will you be my alphess?"

abbydoodle96 - February 9, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
Rose's eyes widened and her jaw dropped. Did he really just ask her to be the Alphess of the Everly Desert? She looked over at Belle, wondering if she'd be mad or sad or something because of this. She turned back to Cal and suddenly felt better. "Calamazoo," she began, a smile spreading across her face. "Of course!" She was really excited. He wanted her to be his alphess, and of course she had to accept it! She really hoped this wouldn't change anything between her and Belle, as they had gotten along since she got here. She didn't want her to be mad at her, or Cal.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
Cal smiled as well. "Great!" he exclaimed, his eyes brightening. "I knew you'd be happy. And it was such a toss up, too, but I figured that you were the first mare here, and my first love, so who would be better suited than yourself?"
However, his excitedness ebbed for a moment as he glanced once more towards Bella-dare. He sighed heavily. "Belle won't like this one bit," he muttered dejectedly. "I just love you both so much."

Mystery - February 9, 2008 08:37 PM (GMT)
"I don't want to." Brego muttered under his breathe as he followed his father up to the two mares. With head lowered and ears pressed against his skull, a dismal expression wrapped his lips. Kicking the sand as he walked, he frowned. As Cal led Rose away, he stopped and watched eagerly. Turning away when he heard an apologetic neigh, he stood closer to his mother. Nipping at her shoulder, he wanted to play.

I sighed when Cal nuzzled me lovingly. I let my muzzle brush against his cheek before he walked away with Rose. Wondering, I noticed Brego and shook my head. "Not now, Brego." I said as I nudged him softly. Seeing the angry face, my ears pinned back. Nipping my son on the rump, I snorted in his face. "Don't be so rude, learn manners." I didn't like his sad look, but he needed to learn sooner or later. Glancing at Cal, I saw his look and frowned. Did he want another foal or was he picking his Alphaess? Feeling angry and jealous, I nuzzled Brego to keep cool and my focus away from those two.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Cal sighed again - he was so torn. He was happy for Rose, but his stomach churned when he thought of Belle. He loved her so much, but what if she left when she heard the news? What if she took Brego or Calli with her? Then Cal would be a broken stallion. He would not be able to rule as alpha anymore without her.
He walked slowly back to her, motioning for Rose Bud to follow. "Well," Cal said hesitantly. "We have some good news." His ears were back slightly in a reserved manner - as if they were too scared to face Belle's gaze. He looked down to Brego, but he wasn't looking too happy, either. Oh, what had he done? In the course of about twenty minutes, had he really torn his herd apart like this?

Mystery - February 9, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
I turned and looked at Cal as he walked over. "Yes?" I asked softly with my eyes trained on his. I braced myself for the worst. Muscles tensed up as I did not let my gaze leave his. Tail swished back and forth, Brego brushing against my side and then on the ground. I glanced at him and he was at my feet sleeping. Turning my head back to Cal, I had a stern look to my eyes. Ears pinned to my skull as I awaited his voice; heart racing in my chest.

W Smack - February 9, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Cal also gazed upon the small colt. How peaceful children look when they're sleeping, he mused. He couldn't bring his eyes to meet Belle's as he said, "Rose has been made the alphess of the herd!" He didn't say it as excitedly as he felt, and his words might have flown by just a bit faster than normal. He stole a glance at Belle, but he was not able to hold her gaze. He looked back to Rose, but he couldn't quite look at her either. So he settled his dark eyes on the two fillies who were still romping through the sand beyond them, his face blank.

Suddenly, Calli skidded to a halt, spraying sand over herself and Tiger Lilly. "Hey!" she said. "Look over there!" she was looking to the spot where Cal stood with the rest of his small herd. "Let's go see what the grown-ups are up to." However, as she walked closer, she regretted her descision. Cal looked worried and Belle looked even worse . . .

Mystery - February 9, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
"Oh ok." I said dismally as my eyes left his face. I was happy for him because he picked his Alphaess and happy for Rose because she was who he had picked. But my heart told me something else. It felt torn to pieces, angry because I wasn't picked and jealous because she was picked over me. "Am I not good enough for you?" I asked in a whisper as I looked over to the approaching Calli. Smiling softly at my daughter, I now couldn't bring myself to look at Cal. Tears swarmed my eyes, but I didn't let them fall. I wasn't good enough to be his Alphaess and it hurt to know that.

abbydoodle96 - February 9, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
Rose knew that this would happen. Belle was both sad and mad, and Rose hated seeing her like that. She was really happy and excited that she had been picked for the position of Alphess, but she was sad that Belle was either sad or mad at Rose and/or Cal. Would Belle hate Rose? Could they stay friends, if that's what they could call each other?

Tiger Lilly followed her friend Calli with a smile on her face. She was tired from running around and playing with her new friend, so she laid down at her mother's hooves and closed her eyes, falling into a sleep.

W Smack - February 11, 2008 09:19 PM (GMT)
Calli was comforted slightly by her mother's small smile towards her - but not much. It was then that the filly noticed the tears swimming in her mother's eyes. She looked from Cal to Belle - confused as to what they were talking about. But she knew better than to ask. She stepped forward and touched her small muzzle to her mother's and then stood beside her, watching her father for signs of sadness as well. Tiger Lilly fell asleep at her mother's feet, so she was obviously not worried about anything.

The alpha sighed deeply as his keen ears picked up on the small whispers of Belle. "Belle . . ." he muttered, not knowing what to say. He could see the anger and heartbreak in her eyes, but couldn't she see that it was a hard descision for him, too? "Of course you're good enough for me. Why else would you be here? Why else would Brego and Calli be here? I love you, and I thought you knew that. Just because Rose is the alphess doesn't mean that I have to love you any less, or her any more. You're both still my mares, and I couldn't remain alpha without you." His soft eyes glanced at the equines around him. This is where he belonged - between Belle, Rose and his foals. But what if Belle left him, now? He was sure that he would die of heartbreak - then how good of an alpha would he be?

The roan chestnut filly perked her ears as she heard her father mention her. She glanced again to her mother, wondering what her reply would be. Calli didn't want to leave - this was her home. She didn't even understand what the word "alphess" meant, but it obviously meant a lot to the grown-ups.

Mystery - February 12, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
I touched my muzzle back to Calli while Cal was talking. Looking back up at him, I shook my head lightly. A minute burst of anger pulsed through me. "Then why did you even pick a Alphaess?" I said, just daring to go where I was going now. "You say you love both of us so much and would siw without us, but both us mares aren't Alphaess. What really would happen if I left Cal? Huh? What if I did leave with Brego and Calli following? Would you really be sad enough to die or even come after me and take me back?" My throat clenched, feeling horribly swollen. Tears streamed my eyes and stained my cheeks. My voice was scratchy as I stared at Cal, daring him to tell me that he wouldn't come after me. "Tell me Cal, would you remain Alpha if I left?" My voice had settled to a whisper, energy leaving my petite body.

Brego stood close behind Calli. Fright swarmed his eyes as he listened to his mother's devastated voice. Are we really leaving? He thought as he looked up at his mother, not believing a word she said. Stepping closer to Calli, he didn't want to leave here or anyone else. Feeling comfort of his sister's body heat, he couldn't look at either of his parents anymore. "I'm scared Calli." Brego whispered into his sister's ear as he somewhat scooted closer to the older filly.

W Smack - February 12, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Calli perked her ears as her mother mentioned her. She was taking her and Brego away? She didn't want to go! She twitched an ear back to examine her brother. "Me too," she muttered as he spoke, her voice barely audible. She didn't want to leave, either. This was her first home. How could Belle leave such a place? Surely she still loved Cal? Calli didn't understand the complicated buisness of adults . . .

"I - I had to pick and Alphess," Cal stuttered, blinking at Belle's tremendous anger. "It's to make the herd better . . ." But as he watched Belle, a small voice muttered in his head, Well, is this any better? He couldn't help but shake his head at her next comment. Cal was a kind, gentle stallion and he was not used to the anger that was welling up inside of him. "So what are you saying?" he asked, venom dripping from his voice. "Are you questioning as to wether I love you or not? After two foals and a brand new family? Are you seriously asking this? You know that I can't make you both alphess! Rose was my first mare, that's why she's alphess. It doesn't mean I love her any more than you!" As Belle went on, he actually had to glare at her for the first time since he had met her. "Do you honestly think that I wouldn't follow you if you left? Do you even know me at all? I thought for sure that you did, but I guess I was wrong. Because if you knew me at all, you knew that I would travel to the ends of the earth to win you back if you ever left." He glanced down at Brego and Calli. He was upset that they were having to watch their parents fighting like this, but there was no way to protect them from these troubles. "As for taking Brego and Calli with you - you wouldn't dare. There's no way that I'm allowing them outside of these borders, whether you leave or not!"

The filly twitched at her brother's side. It was bad enough that her parents were fighting - but now they were going to fight over her and Brego? It was almost too much for her young mind to bear.

Mystery - February 12, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
"Why are they fighting?" Brego mumbled back to Calli. Seeing the anger in his father's eyes sent fright running down his spine. Never in his life (very short life) had he seen or wanted to see his father or mother this furious with the other. It wasn't pleasent and was surely going to scar him for the rest of his life. Trembling lightly, he just wanted this all to be over and done with. Didn't want them to fight anymore, but it looked like it wasn't going to stop.

"Yes. I am questioning whether you love me or not." I hissed at him. Eyes glaring back at him, not giving a damn how mad he got. It only proved to me that he did care and that was exactly what I didn't believe. "Just because I gave you foals and a family doesn't mean you love me." I spat at him, he did not know true love at all. My defense rose as he continued to speak. "You do not know what love really is Cal. And even though you'd go to the ends of the earth to get me back doesn't mean it's love." My voice was very stern at this point and what he said next pissed me off. My muscles tightened as I stared him straight on. "You have no choice what I do with my son and daughter. You may be their father, but I am their mother and I have every right over them until they grow up." I hissed, I knew that Cal would stop me and I couldn't make him let me go with them, but I could very well damn try. I knew he loved, I just wanted it proved. Lately, it all had been having a family and being of rank. Lately it just never seemed he wanted just me as a whole and a mare that he loved. Just a mare that could bring him his heir. Just stop arguing and agree with him, you'll never win. My mind spoke to me and I was just going to be the stubborn mare I was, I was not going to back down now.

His ears perked at the mention of him and his sister. Brego was really confused about the fighting and why they would be leaving. They just got here and mom wanted to take them away? It didn't seem very right and Brego stood there looking very much like a mouse in the jaws of a cat. Petrified.

W Smack - February 14, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
The filly's ears were twitching nervously as she stayed as close to her brother as she could. "I don't know," she muttered in reply. She was truly shaking now in fear of her parents' anger. She couldn't just stand there and watch anymore. "Brego, let's get out of here . . ." she suggested, turning away from her mother's fiery eyes and her father's flattened ears.

Cal continued to glare at Belle as she spoke again. "You know very well that I don't want to take the foals away from you - but I will if I think it's what's best for them!" She shook his head, his nares flaring as he breathed heavily in frustration. "What do you want me to do, Belle? Do you want me to chase after you? Do you want me to just let you leave? You say I don't know what love is - well why don't you tell me, then? Tell me what I need to do to make you truly happy!" He was trying to be sincere, but his voice was still loud with the anger that pulsed through him. Never could he remember being so upset.

Mystery - February 15, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
I continued to glare back just as intensely as he did. My lips trembled as I kept holding back the tears. "You can't make me truly happy!" I yelled back at him and I was being serious. "You can't and nobody else can. Not until it can just be us and our children can I be truly happy. I don't share and up until now I've been holding back every ounce in me not to kill Rose." My voice lowered to a deathly hiss. I wasn't kidding about what I said and my face clearly spoke it. I was ready to collapse right now, but I kept myself up right and glaring right back at him. "I know you won't have Rose leave and you don't want me to leave, but face it Cal. I don't share and I don't like sharing so either you run me out or you deal with me being sad." My voice had calmed down, but I still sounded angry.

"Ok." Brego didn't want to leave his mother, in fear his father would hurt her, but he trusted his sister. Turning away from the two fighting, he followed Calli down the sandy slopes away from it. "Where we going?" He asked in a quiet voice, too scared to get noticed by the parents. His ears flattened as he tried walking closer to his sister. With heart beating too fast against his chest, his eyes kept glancing back at his trembling mother.

abbydoodle96 - February 15, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
Rose took a few steps back when she heard that Belle was holding back not to kill her. So they never were ok with each other? So Belle always hated her? It took her all that she had not to inturde in their fight and do something to the mare, but she decided to stay back and let the Alpha deal with this. She walked over to Brego, Calli, and now Tiger Lilly, and stayed with them. She would watch the three foals while Cal and Belle fought, which she knew would happen one day. Secretly, she really wanted for Belle to leave, but if Cal did what he said he would, he'd leave to go find her, and just bring her back. Rose snorted and lowered her head to nuzzle her daughter, and look at the other foals. She knew they had no idea of what was going on, and she understood that. They weren't supposed to. They were only foals.

W Smack - February 15, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
"I don't know," Calli muttered. "Anywhere but there." She looked up as Rose and Lilly followed them. "What's going to happen?" she asked, to no one in perticular. "What's going to happen to us now?"

The alpha watched Rose walk away from them. He was shocked and appaled to hear what Belle told him next. How could she be so selfish? But Cal could understand where she was coming from. He had always pictured himself as a one-mare stallion, too, but it hadn't ended up that way. There's no such thing as one love in life - those only happen in stories. People change and life moves on. He never thought that it would be able to love two mares at once, but here he was. It was if he was one way when he was with Belle, and he was a totally different person when he was with Rose. He thought that he had just been lucky to have two loves in his life, but now he realized that it had just been foolish to hope that the two would ever get along peacefully here.
The sun beat down on him as he remained quiet, thinking. His ears twitched, he shook his head, but he didn't speak. Tears were ready to spring at the edge of his dark eyes. What was he to do now? What was there that he could do? "Belle," he muttered, his voice barely audible. "What do you suppose I do, then?" He looked up at her, his face strained to fight back the tears. When his eyes met hers, he almost completely collapsed, but he managed to stay rooted on his four strong hooves. "I can't leave Rose, and I can't leave you. But yet you're telling me that I can't have both. I know life isn't always fair, but this seems a bit extreme, don't you think? So I want you to tell me: what do you supose we do?"

I laughed, yes I laughed at him. "You actually think that I'm telling you that you can't have both of us? I never once said that, all I said that I do not like sharing. That is my own selfish problem that I know I can't fix." I said, still not believing how Cal was giving me all the cards. He was letting me hold fate in my hands and decide. I stopped and stood there quietly for a moment, how was I to decide? My ears flattened and I let Rose walk with my foals for the moments. I was caught up in my troubles that I needed to sort out. "I can't decide for you Cal. I can only decide for myself because you have both of us and I only have you and our foals." My actions had calmed down as I now only stared at him. "You are giving me all the cards, whatever I decide you'd have to deal with it. And what I want to say, you don't want. So what I'm going to say right now is that you can either let me leave or you can love me again and let me be sad." I paused for another moment. Lost in my own thoughts, I kept thinking until I decided to talk again. "You are the Alpha, you are supposed to be in charge not me. Rose is your Alphaess, not me. I have Brego and Calli to take care of, to help them grow up. I can stay here with them and you wouldn't have to pay attention to me. I don't need your love or attention, but I want it. If you want to spend more time with Rose and Lilly then with me and the twins, then fine do it. I'm not your mother or your decider. You do what you want." Right now, I felt like the most wise horse in the entire world. Never had I ever said anything more smart. I stared at him, waiting for his own decision. I was getting tired of deciding everything.

"I may be alpha, but you of all people know that I don't exactly rule with an iron fist. I want to make sure that whatever decision I make is in the best welfare for everyone here in the deserts, and in order to make that decision, I have to know your true feelings. And now I do." He paused, looking deep into her eyes as he thought. He chuckled slightly. "So those are my options?" he asked. "Let you leave or love you again? You make it sound as if I fell out of love with you at one time." He smiled, then added, "I've always loved you, Belle, and of course I'm going to love you forever. I don' think that I'll be very satisfied if you're constantly sad, though. Are you sure there's nothing I can do to fix that? Nothing at all?" He moved closer towards her as if offering himself to her mercy, waiting for her final decision.

"Hey I'm not the stallion who fell in love with this crazy mare. Do what you want." I offered a small smile, but did not come closer to him. Staring back into his eyes, I laughed back. "No, you can't until you prove that you do love me." I said, I didn't blink or stutter. "Prove to me that you want me to stay and be with you forever." I said it in a light voice as I smiled seductively. My old self, before I became a mother, came out. I loved him being at my mercy. It made me feel in control and alive again.

"Nothing bad I hope." Brego muttered as he tried ignoring Rose. He didn't particularly like being closely watched by other horses but his mother. Glancing once more at Belle and Cal, he noticed they weren't fighting anymore. But it looked like they wanted to be alone still. Feeling better, he looked back at Calli and kept walking.

Calli nodded, looking back as well to glance at her parents. "It looks like they're working it all out, though," she muttered, trying to stay positive.

Cal smiled. "I don't think that that should be too hard," he said, coming still closer but still leaving Belle her space in case she still watned it. "I do love you, Belle. And, believe me, I'll find a way to prove it. It just may take a while . . ." His eyes softened and his ears came forward. The fight was officially over, but he wasn't out of trouble yet.

"Take all the time you need." I scooted away from him, playing a little game. "I have forever now don't I?" I looked at him with accusing eyes. "But really, I think you should figure out whether I should be in your harem." I said this with a little disgust. I was only teasing, but I was being truthful. Yes, I was in his "harem" and I didn't particularly like it. "Harem. That is a nasty little word, isn't it Cal?" I paused and smiled. "So many bad things happen between mares who are in the same harem. Very bad things could happen." No, I wasn't hinting anything bad, just warning him to keep an extra eyes out. I may be sweet and petite, but I could be a little deadly if wanted to be. "Rose should stay away from my foals for a while, motherly instincts don't go over so well when another mare tries to take my babies away." I took a step closer to Cal, my eyes staring straight at him. I was only making a point, Rose needed to stay away from my foals.

"Hope they work it out soon." Brego said back to his sister. He felt happier and like a weight had been lifted. Looking again and again at his mother, he could see a little worry in her features. Looking back to Calli, his brow furrowed; trying to figure out what his parents were talking about.
