People say she's only in my head,
Gonna take time but I'll forget.
They say I need to get on with my life,
But they don't realize.
Is when you're dialing 6 numbers just to hang up the phone,
Driving cross town just to see if she's home,
Waking a friend in the dead of the night,
Just to hear him say it's gonna be all right.
When you're finding things to do, not to fall asleep,
Cause you know she will be there in your dreams,
That's when she's,
More than a memory.
The striped form traveled slowly through the spanning world. Smoky daggers scuffed the ground, their tips touching the land, heels barely two inches off the ground. Unique whipcord swished back and forth, all conscious motion gone from its furry length. Mohawk-shaped tassels shifted, the stripes slightly melded together with the longer, more wavy hair. Storm-grey orbs glanced about the land lazily, with no purpose behind their vacant stare. Nares barely flared with each breath, auds were flicked in the most relaxed pose possible.
This is what was left of Triton.
I took a match to everything she ever wrote,
Watched her words go up in smoke.
Tore all her pictures off the wall,
That ain't helping me at all.
'Cause when you're talking out loud and nobody's there,
You look like hell and you just don't care,
You're drinking more than you ever drank,
Sinking down lower than you ever sank.
When you find yourself falling down upon your knees,
Praying to God, begging him "please,"
That's when she's,
More than a memory.
She's more,
She's more,
Cause when you're dialing her number just to hang up the phone,
Driving 'cross town just to see if she's home,
Waking a friend in the dead of the night,
Just to hear him say it's gonna be all right,
When you're finding things to do, not to fall asleep,
Cause you know she's waiting in your dreams.
That's when she's
More than a memory.
Cranium raised barely with the sound of a bird twittering, rather close to the tired bod. Just a hint, a glimmer, of what the zebra once was came out with the familiar sound, escaping through the eyes, their hue now glowing, even if just a bit. But then it was gone, hidden beneath the sadness, the heartbreak that had struck the creature. He was barely alive. His mate was gone: dead to a horrible plague, never to be seen again. She was the only one he'd ever loved. Pools became even more vacant as he thought about her. That beautiful filly, Miquele, that he had fallen for at just six months. But his breeding did not favor hers, and they were forbidden to meet. They found a way, and finally, to everyone but theirselves' grief, were alone together, mates finally. Until then..... Ah, it was too horrible to think about. Sure that his coloring was enough to draw a curious onlooker, he stopped, hide twitching occasionally, he only the shell of what he had once been.
People say she's only in my head,
Gonna take time but I'll forget.

I'm worried to think that all we had was truly nothing
I watch life as a bystander with silent tears on my cheeks
I wait . . . but nothing happens.
People come and go with no true meaning
Every day is a living hell knowing that you're making your own life
On the outside I'm soul-less, on the inside I'm dying
I wait . . . but nothing happens.
What now? Will I spend the rest of my life waiting on hopless dreams?
Why should I even care anymore? I know you don't.
I dream of the day when you won't haunt me
I wait . . . but nothing happens.
I'm trapped in an invisible boundary. I scream for help, but nobody turns
I try to ignore your ever-lasting presence, but you're always there in the back of my mind
My head tells my heart to shut-up and move on, but the tiny fragments are too small to heal
I wait . . . but nothing happens.
I finally see your face again and my heart jumps to my throat
Again I wait, gagged and bound by that invisible demon as my life passes by
Again you haunt me, now more than ever as you seek vengeance on my shattered remains
I wait . . . but nothing happens
The pieces left of my heart are scattered and soaked in tears and memories
The never-ending question of: “Why? Why me?” plagues me silently every day
I seek comfort and none comes
I wait . . . but nothing happens
I’m still alone – no matter how hard I try to pick up the pieces
No one will ever know the battle I fight every day
I watch you there – smiling and blurring by with the rest of the world
And I’m still here . . . waiting.
A stocky stallion with white and black spots mottling his hide trotted slowly up towards the newcomer.
"Hello, there," he muttered, a bit surprised to see the new breed of equine upon his lands.
"And just who - or what, I may add - are you?" He didn't mind the stallion's strange hide - he found it interesting. But he had never seen an equine such as this in his life. He continued to add,
"My name is Allegro, and I am alpha of these lands. It is nice to have met your acquaintence."

Snarl marred the striped brute's face as he "greeted" the stag that had come. Not that he'd done anything wrong. Just....the zebra didn't exactly trust others, and wasn't afraid to show it. Also he was slightly annoyed at his question.
What are you? I would have thought that you'd know, he growled, tail lashing back and forth in irritation. Since you seem to be slightly dense, I'll cut it to the quick. Name's Triton. I'm a zebra. Now, did you only come here to ask me questions, or are you going to let me in your herd? Auds laid back as he spoke, his anger clear in his storm grey pools.

Stormy gray eyes met the stallion's, but his ears flicked backwards and stayed there. "Listen, /sir/," he muttered. "I /am/ the alpha of these lands, and I have nothing against you, but I demand respect, no matter what kind of equine you are." He looked the zebra up and down, peering at his stripes. If this stallion couldn't show respect for Allegro, then he wasn't going to show respect for him - and he wasn't going to accept him into the herd.

Brute was about to respond with a sharp growl, but then seeing as this might be his only chance, he decided not to get on this guy's bad side. Tones changed to a deep rumble as he spoke once more, his tone slightly more respectful, but orbs still narrowed in distrust and anger. Of course. Sorry for my attitude. His voice changed to a low murmur, barely louder than a whisper, as he spoke his last few words. I just....haven't been the same since Miquele. Bod was tense, hoping that the leader hadn't heard his slip of the tongue, his whispered words, spoken with longing and sorrow. He just wouldn't understand.

Allegro narrowed his own eyes as the stallion muttered quietly to himself. What could Triton's problems possibly be? He thought that he slightly heard the word "Miquele", but this mean nothing to him, so he did not bother to ask further. "Your behavior will be pardoned, sir, if you can swear to me that you will be a positive asset to my herd - and not a negative one. If I can't trust you to behave yourself and help the other members of these lands, then I don't know if I can accept you here." His milky tail whisked over his spotted back as he again measured up the stallion. Whatever his problem was, it obviously had a very large affect on him. Allegro was having problems himself, but at least he didn't lash out at others. He was brought up to be polite and wear a smile on his face - even if his heart was shattered into a million pieces.

A curt nod was all that was given in response. I supppose I shall have to follow your rules. A small smile crossed his formerly frowning maw as he thought of what he could add. I've always been a pretty good fighter against my enemies, he said, in a tone that implied that his enemies were those outside his herd. He'd just have to make due with his broken heart, trying not to be too much of a nuisance, but still making it known that he was hurting, and probably would be, for the rest of his life.

Allegro nodded descidedly as he peered down at the stallion. "Fine," he muttered. "Then you shall be accepted into this herd. We also have some vaccancies for guardian or something like that if what you say about your enemies is true. There are not many others - but enough to be a herd, I suppose." For some reason, he couldn't bring himself to say "family" instead of "herd". He still couldn't really picture without that one mare that made his heart beat madly and his words catch in his throat. Imagine the sun being plucked directly from the sky. That depressing feeling is exactly the hallow emotion that forever plauged the alpha. But he would have to make do. Sure, he would smile and be a good leader for the others, but he couldn't promise being to attached or sentimental with any of them. Especially this grumpy zebra stallion before him.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts and said, "Follow me. The herd is this way."
