A small, elderly mare walked through the plains. Her grayed muzzle lowerd to sniff at the lush, green grass below. All of it was fresh and plentiful. She breathed the deep, earthy smell deep through her nose and closed her eyes. If she were younger, she would hav gone galloping off through the field, whinnying and frolicking, but now her bones were stiff with arthritis and her lungs and heart were too weak and would give out if she tried.
Instead, as she closed her eyes tight, she imagined of her life's long adventures. Her loved ones and her enemies flew through her mind as she remembered all of the ghosts of long ago. Who knew that the young, red roan filly would someday grow old and leave her old home? She had been a three year old when she entered Forever Free, and now she was ten! An ancient old lady. No one wanted her now.
Would she ever be able to settle into another home again?

It'd been a few months since the birth of my twin sons, and several months since my arrival to Royalty. Between Spring and now, I'd become a Queen and a mother of two at a young age. I was probably doomed from the start, anyways.

Copper splashes stand out vibrantly against the white of my body and the green grass, as pale gold and fiery auburn curls flicker in the Fall breeze. Soon the grass would die, and we'd have to struggle through Winter. But what land didn't? Fierce blue eyes survey the flat sections of Avalon quietly from a higher hill, with Koalvolt snoozing at my hooves. I had my doubts to where Tyhraone was, but I knew he wouldn't leave. He was probably hiding within the thicker parts of the grasses, like usual.

My tassels snap as I flick them in brief frustration. Those brief moments were common as of late, because I had yet gathered atleast a member outside of my lineage. It was only my sons and myself, and I was growing to be increasingly impatient with the outside world. Had Avalon gone unnoticed? While other lands flourish and foals are brought into the world, Avalon silently withered. It made me think I'd brought my doomed fate with me whenever I'd left my homeland over a year ago.

Until copper audda flicker forward, as fierce blue hues catch something within the distance. Movement, which disturbs me to a degree. Rousting my son, I take a lofty trot down the hill towards the movement - only to find a older mare. I stop several paces away, copper audda flicker back briefly as I feel Koalvolt's own black-and-white frame brush by my back legs, so that he could duck underneath my stomach.

"Welcome to Avalon Plains. I'm Spirit Dancer, Queen of Avalon. What brings you here?" I ask, my voice qualled because I sound so young to my own audda, yet the command in my question couldn't be ignored.

Kismet jumped slightly, surprised as the other horse intruded on her thoughts. "Hello?" she called out over the tall grasses. "Spirit Dancer, did you say?" Again, she recalled her old life. There had been a Spirit Dancer in her old herd - one of her best friends. "Well, my name is Kismet. I was wondering if I could join your herd here, Spirit."

I flinch, slightly, as she said the word "herd". You couldn't call us, my sons and I, a herd. More like a...a group. Or a slow-forming clan, of a sort.
"A pleasure, Kismet. You may join, though we aren't much of a herd," I reply, truthfully, even though it hurt my pride to say it. Though, possibly, with her arrival - I could venture out and bring more members in, once I could trust her enough around the boys.

Kismet nodded. So this was to be her new home, then. The small, elderly mare parted through the long grass between them and laid eyes upon her new herd member and another, smaller, horse. "Oh, hello," she said. "Who is this?" she asked Spirit Dancer, motioning towards the small colt.

I can feel Koalvolt shift underneath me, because thanks to his fool who'd raped me months ago, he'd be much taller than my small stature. I had doubts that any of my children would be close to my height in the future, if I had more.
"This is Koalvolt, one of my twin sons," I reply, hesitantly, but carefully enough to skirt craftily around the subject of their father. I can easily make it sound like he'd run out on us when the question came up. "His twin brother is Tyhraone."

"Ah," Kismet said, smiling. "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Koalvolt." She had always loved children, it was a tradjedy that her one and only son had rejected and left her. Suddenly, Kismet peered around curiously. "Are . . . are these the only other two of the herd?" She didn't care if their herd was small, she still liked it. "Well, it will be nice - just you, me, and the two young ones."
