The lovely cream tassels that adorned her legs fluttered and rippled with the light breeze that blew across the meadow. The landscape was like a picture; a solitary mare of strange colors walking across the perfect, silent land, a sunset of the most potent colors behind her. No other living thing was in sight. It was as if she was alone in the world, like she would walk on and on forever. It felt like an endless journey. The mare had been traveling for days, even weeks now just trying to find peace, a home, some love. In her old herd, she had been kicked out because another stallion had beaten and raped her. The lead considered her tainted, and sent her away. Her normally proud and fun disposition had disappeared; she had lost all hope, and so here she was, just waiting.

I trotted through the grassy field, banner and cranium held high in my newfound pride. I was elated by the birth of my son, but like all other stallions, it was in my nature to jump at the chance of another mare in my herd. I paused and sniffed the air, smoky nares widening to take in the scents of trampled grass, fresh water. And another equine. I snorted in glee and loped in the direction of the smell.
I continued on until I could see the gray hue of the fae before me. I slowed to an extended trot to come closer, then stopped completely a few feet from her. "Excuse me," I said. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything. I am Poseidon, King of the Aurora Mountains. May I have the pleasure of learning your name?" I looked her over with blue-green occuli as I waited for her response to my question.

Ella turned her head slowly towards the direction from which the sound was coming. Her almost whispered reply came flowing from her velvet maw. I am Ella. I live nowhere, know no one, love nothing. So how is it then that I can be of any assistance? She shook her head imperceptibly, hardly believing anyone would even speak to her. She was a nobody, and would remain so for probably a long while.

Poor girl. Thought that she was a nothing. But good ol' Water Boy would cheer her up. That's what I'd do. I couldn't have her like this. "How you can be of assistance? I thought that you came for a home. I can give you one: the Aurora Mountains." Obsidian banner flicked back and forth. "Well, I suppose you have met someone now, right? So it can't be that bad."

The mare lifted her lovely head hopefully, and her saddened eyes brightened a bit. No, I suppose it can't. So will you take me then? I'm done fighting, arguing, traveling. I just want to rest.

"Of course I can. Just follow me and don't get lost. Then you can rest. No fighting or arguing. Your last major journey." I felt so good, giving her a home where she could rest and not be heckled, if she felt this down and sad. Thank goodness I got to her before some stupid Dark or meaner Light did, or before she killed herself. I trotted up to her and gave her the gentlest bite I could on her neck. "There. Now no one can hurt you. This way." I turned and trotted off toward my land, looking back occasionally to see if she was following.

She picked up her head and started to trot behind him, then broke into an easy, long strided, thundering lope that brought her alongside the stallion. They moved together for a long while, completely at ease and happy until they reached the border of his lands. Ella walked over to him, then gave his neck a nuzzle. Thank you Then she stood back a bit and waited for him to lead the way in through the border to his kingdom.
