I could help but feel an unmeasurable ammount of mirth as I felt the first gust of icy wind. I was getting closer; I could sense, smell it, and feel it. And by feel, I didn't mean by the gusts of cold wind. I meant that in my heart, I knew that the snow and ice laid before me soon - I could feel it in my bones. Such a powerful feeling made me shiver slightly in anticipation. Not a negative thought entered my brain, only the occasional, 'What if it isn't how he described it?'
But I knew that, somehow and for some reason, Justin wouldn't lie to me. We were too frank with eachother, blatantly speaking, and if it turned out to be the lie I doubted, then I could just turn tail and waltz away with some dignity.
My fleatbitten coat's sheen rippled down my frame in a silver flash, as I shook my dished tiara arrogantly as I made impact with snow. As soon as I waded deep enough, ash hooves danced as a foolish grin stretched across my charred lips. I stopped long enough to relinquish the biting gust of cold wind, as ivory curls snapped in its cold clutches and coal black hues closed as the wind gusted for a brief moment. Coal pool reopened, to scan the icy terra quietly as mywhole frame hummed with renewed energy. Noting the absence of Justin, lyrics called out softly, "Justin? Où êtes-vous?"

1.Justin? Où êtes-vous?
- Justin? Where are you?

A small, spotted stallion looked upon the lands as well. He took a deep breath in, and almost coughed from the extreme cold that entered his nares. The air was so pure and clean that it was almost hard to muster. He looked across the great, barren terrain. No, it wasn't much, but it was enough. Enough to be his new home. In the distance, he thought he could see Justin and the mare he had spoken of. He trotted towards them slowly, because his feet did not yet know how to excavate the light, powdery snow. Everything was so new, despite the death-like cold. Finn couldn't wait to make a life here!
Mystery - January 3, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
My hooves wadded through the snow as I tried to find my way to where everyone was. Well, the only two horses I had collected to become my herd. My ears stuck to my skull as I stood a top of my cave. My head held high and tail flagged up. A small increased on my lips as i heard a growl from beneath me. The mysterious beast inside was getting close to awakening and I was eager to meet it, but not at the moment. I had others to go talk to. First, I wanted to go say hello to my dear Victoire.
Her voice was quiet as it reached to me. The wind gusted against me as I lept onto the ground. Stopping, I turned to look inside the cave before wandering out into the snow. The sky was cloudy and even though you couldn't see the sun, you could tell it was out. My buckskin coat was neatly sliced with icicles and my tail hurt as it bit at my legs. Trotting closer, I could just smell her getting closer to me. A smile brightened even more on my face as my ears flipped up from this pinned position.
« J'ai raison ici, Victoire ». I called out as I was only a few feet from her. Stopping about have a foot away, I looked at her fleabitten form. She did look a bit cold, but that was how everyone looked when they got here. « Je vois que vous l'avez fait ». I said in a cheery voice, an ear turning sideways to hear steps being taken. Turning my head to the side, I saw Finn approaching us. Smiling, I looked back at Victoire.
Le « Finlandais » ? I called out in French, forgetting the language barrier between us. That was the difficult thing about it. I did not know english and only knew simple words like cold. If I ever tried speaking english, I would be horrible at it and it would be a bit embarrassing. I watched as Finn drew closer.

Finn tossed his head as he walked slowly forward. "Hallo, alle," he called to them. He nodded to Justin and said, "Sagen Sie Victoire, dass ich froh bin, sie schlieblich zu treffen." He smiled to the mare and then said to the stallion again, "Und es ist gut, Sie, auch, Justin zu sehen." He snorted and shivered from the cold that seemed to press in from all around them. At least the snow was beautiful, or Finn wasn't sure if he would be able to stay here for very long.

1. "Hello, all."
2. "Tell Victoire that I am glad to finally meet her."
3. "And it is good to see you, too, Justin."

I relished the bite of the cold wind, and the fact my pillars were aching from the snow that surrounded them. It'd been a little over a year since I'd seen snow and ice, and lived among it. It wouldn't take me long to revert back to my survival skills from those days and be comfortable here.
Flea bitten audda catch Justin's words; making my eyes open, and their sable gaze turn to him. I smile broadly, and nod my Arabian dished tiara softly.
"Justin!" I cry out merrily, my voice sounding like silver bells - much like my laughter - as I bound towards him through the snow. "Naturellement je le ferais. Je ne pourrais pas passer vers le haut la neige, pas pour le monde. Et sans compter la compagnie merveilleuse."
My smile falters, as my audda catch the new stag's words - German. I didn't know it, but atleast I knew English. And atleast I could catch his name, thanks to Justin.
[ Translation: ]
1. Naturellement je le ferais. Je ne pourrais pas passer vers le haut la neige, pas pour le monde. Et sans compter la compagnie merveilleuse.
- Of course I would make it. I couldn't pass up snow, not for the world. And not to mention wonderful company.

Finn smiled as the mare came rushing forwards. He listened to her beatuiful voice as she spoke to Justin. Finn had always been an admirer of the French language, but he was not able to speak it. And this mare spoke it so beautifully, as if she were telling an elaborate story instead of simply making every day talk.
The spotted stallion snorted and shook his head to rid his skull from the freezing white snow that had collected on it. The lightly falling snowflakes were many, and even though he hadn't been standing for long, the white stuff had collected on practically every available part of his body.
He bowed politely to the mare to show her that he was glad to meet her. "Spricht sie nur sprechen Französisch?" he asked Justin inquisitively.
Translation:
1. Does she only speak French?

I smiled brightly as she finally stood before me. Her beauty always seemed to give me the chills, it was a good feeling though. Laughing quietly, I admired how much she loved the snow; a good thing we had in common. « Je » m content ne vous avez pas fait. J'aurais été écrasé ». I said, truly meaning it. If she had somehow changed her mind from coming, I would had been sincerely sad about it. She was a lovely mare that was very nice. Grinning, I also glance at Finn.
„Ach kein Finne, macht sie nicht. Sie spricht Englisch auch. Sorgen Sie sich nicht“. I said, the smile still wrapping my face. I had wonderful company and a fantastic home. I couldn't ask to be any happier then I already was. Well, there was one thing that could make me just a bit happier, but I sure wasn't going to risk my chances and ask right now. We had just met and well, I just didn't want to ruin anything for me. „So Sie dürfen sich zu ihr vorstellen, wenn Sie wollen“. I said with a chuckle and nod of my head.

Finn looked between the two and then sighed in relief. "Oh, thank goodness!" he said, happy to be speaking his native language again. "I thought that I would be speaking German forever!" He smiled to Victoire. "Well, at least we have a translator, now, in case I forget some of my German words. I have to admit, I haven't spoken German since my father taught it to me when I was nothing but a colt."
Spirit Dancer - January 6, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
My smile retursns to its broadened state, as I flash it to Justin. Finally, I wouldn't feel so left out. It alright, to me, for the language barrier between Justin and I; but if Finn wasn't able to speak French or English, I'd probably die. Not literally.
I nod my Arabian tiara softly, understanding how he felt. Luckily, French had been my first language since birth - and I was taught English some time afterwards. So some of my English wasn't "picture perfect".
"I guess I could be. It'd be alot easier for all of us, and future herd members," I reply carefully, making sure my words made sense. I hated that part about my dialects - the ackwardness between the two.
Mystery - January 6, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
My smile softened when she flashed her own smile at me. I had a feeling that she really did like me. Looking from Finn to Victoire, I felt sudden loneliness. They both were speaking English, something that I didn't know. Maybe that was how Victoire felt when Finn and I spoke German or Finn felt when Victoire and I spoke French. Shrugging it off, I didn't mind and let them speak with each other in their own English. I only understood bits of it because I had been around horses all my life that spoke English, but only bits of it.
The thing now that I just realized was that Victoire had responded to what I had said. It was alright, but it seemed that she was excited to speak English then to converse with me. Was this jealousy? I hadn't really felt it before, but it hurt. Or maybe it was just being slightly ignored, I didn't like that much. But of course I understood the whole language barrier thing and didn't make a fuss about it. I didn't need to act like a colt at this moment.

Finn was so excited to have finally found someone else in this land that spoke English, that he totally missed the disappointment on Justin's face. He looked between the two. "Well, it's nice to know that we can all communicate, now," he said in English, and then repeating it in German so that Justin would know what he had said as well. "So, es ist nett zu wissen, dass wir alle jetzt kommunizieren können." His smile was wide across his face as he gaze upon his new (very) small family.
Translation:
1. Well, it's nice to know that we can all communicate, now.
Spirit Dancer - January 6, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
"Oui, it is nice," I reply, my coal gaze turning to Justin with my smile still on my charred lips. It faltered slightly, seeing the disappointment on Justin's features that Finn had missed. I added, towards him, "Il fait beau."
I was quiet for a few moments, my coal gaze turned away briefly, as if contemplating something. Truthfully, I was happy for the small "family" that we'd formed here. Not too small, not too big; just right. For now, I suppose. I was certain something would change - like Finn would find a mate, or Justin would find more mares - and then everything would change. Would it, though? My coal hued pools returned to Justin.
"Justin, juste parce que le Finn et moi pouvons parler anglais, il ne changera pas une chose. Je serai toujours ici pour toi. N'importe ce que."
[ Translation: ]
1. Oui

2. Il fait beau.

My head turned slightly to Finn and I heard him speak. Then Victoire was speaking to me about the same thing. They had seen my disappointed face. That wasn't what I really wanted, but I guess I showed too much emotion. I nodded in agreement to Finn, „Ja es ist, sehr nett“. I commented before turning my head to Victoire. A small smile on my face. My smile was gone for a second when she spoke, it felt good for someone to tell me that.
"I...I..." I was completely speechless, I now felt a bit stupid for feeling anything. Looking away from Victoire, I didn't know what to say now. Looking back, my face was somewhat solemn. For a second, I felt like I couldn't breathe and my brain just completely stopped working. Still, I didn't know what to say, I calmly looked at Victoire. All my feelings swarmed inside of me, completely lost and confused.

The spotted stallion nodded as he looked between the two. He wasn't sure exactly what Victoire had just said to Justin, but the alpha looked pretty taken aback. He didn't know what was being said, but he could feel the air around the three of them turn more somber. He didn't want to ask what was going on, because he was afraid that he would interrupt on their conversation.
Instead, he looked across the landscape again. It was so cold and empty and clear - but somehow they had made a home of it. It was amazing how the personality of the equines inhabiting this place could make such a cold place so much warmer.
He sighed happily, smiling like a fool. "Ich liebe es hier. Und ich bin so glücklich, Sie zwei in meiner neuen Familie zu haben," he said to Justin, but smiling to Victoire, too. He continued to look between them, and then nickered, "Ich habe ein Gefühl, dass wir alle dabei sind, gerade fein hier auszukommen."

Flea bitten audda flicker backwards, into my volumous snow white curls. My smile strained, hearing nothing in response, as my coal hues turned to Finn as he spoke. I would have to learn German at this rate - but I probably wouldn't. It was a barrier between us that allowed privacy in conversations. Privacy between Justin and Finn when they spoke German; privacy for Justin and I when we spoke French since Finn didn't understand it.
Either way, I wouldn't retract my statement, even if I heard nothing in response. I could see that what I'd said had some affect on him - making some type of impact.

I finally got my thoughts back into order when she looked away from me. Shaking my head, I took a deep breathing, it shuddered slightly. My black rimmed ears listened to Finn's words. I smile rimmed my lips at his words, I nodded in agreement. Looking up from the white ground, I looked at Finn. „Ja wir werden alle entlang nur fein erhalten“. I replied to him, looking out into the white clouded distance. My blue eyes looked back to Victoire, hopefully I could say some words now.
« Je veux que vous ayez été ici pour moi, toujours. Et je serai ici pour vous ». I looked at her, I meant every word I spoke. It felt good to say those words. Smiling gently, I wanted to reach forward and nuzzle her, but I couldn't myself forth to do it.

Finn couldn't wait until he got a mare of his own! He watched the alpha and his mate talk intimately. He was excited to share that with another person, too! He muttered to himself, "Is there even a mare out there for me?" He shook his head and returned to watching Justin and Victoire. He dipped his maw low to the ground and brought it up quickly, spraying the other two horses with a small sprinking of snow. "Kommen Sie heran!" he said, whinnying happily and bobbing his head like a colt. "Wollen wir spielen! Wenn ich noch für länger bleibe, sind meine Glieder dabei, zusammen zu frieren!" He turned to Victoire and added so that she would understand, "I want to do something! We might all be buried under snow if we stay standing here any longer!"

Coal hues wandered over the snow white landscape, as my features fell into a passive mask. Pinned, flea bitten audda catch Justin's words in German, that were directed towards Finn. I completely ignored them; it was useless to even attempt to understand what they were saying. Suddenly, audda catches his spoken words. My tiara snapped towards his drection, as coal hues watched him intently, before looking him straight in his own blue pools.
My intent stare noted his gentle smile, allowing the mask to crumble away as I returned his smile with my own smile.
"Je suis heureux."
As I spoke, with my audda returning to their forward stances, I heard Finn's words. Both German and English, glad that he'd spoken in a Language I could understand as well, and silently agreed with the spotted stallion on. Maybe not being buried underneath snow, but I could hear that he seemed to be bored.
"L'amende alors, nous a laissés jouer..." I reply, mururing it softly, as my dancing coal hues flickered between Finn and Justin. Suddenly, slim, pearly pillers streched forward - sending my body lurching forward, as I brushed by Justin in a bouncing canter.
"Étiquette, vous êtes lui, Justin!" I cried over my shoulder, lyrics loud enough to echo back to me quickyl before I laughed and continued to bound through the snow.

I stood there in a slight daze as she smiled back at me. My ears completely blocked Finn's words for some reason, my eyes never prying from her. My head turned slightly to glance at Finn before I heard her words. Feeling the brush, I chuckled as I watched her bolt off. Half rearing in play, I whinnied loudly. Hearing Finn's voice again, I shook my head and snorted as I landed. A playful determination on my face as I leapt from a pile of snow and after the two. It was a bit hard for me to see them in the flurry of snow, but I could see his distinctive spots and her lightly dappled coat.
Galloping through, snow tossed up from behind me. I was having a grand time as I got closer to Finn. He seemed to be the closer one since Victoire had taken off earlier. Finally catching up to him at a ran, I let my shoulder graze his lightly, careful to actually push him. Just enough to feel it though. "„Sie sind es“. " I said right before I veered off and turned around; my speed slowed down slightly. Whinnying, I hesitated for a moment as I searched for Victoire, she was somewhere here. She wouldn't have left. My laugher rings throughout the glacier; making my location irrelovent by my voice. Fleabitten canvas and snow colored curls might blend in with the snowy terrain; but my charred maw and coal colored pools stand out against the white background and my fleabitten pelt.
Curved audda catch the sounds of crunching snow, though I don't dare chance a look behind me. I know it was most likely Finn, hearing Justin telling Finn something moments before and hearing him dart away. Tucking in my muzzle, fleabitten audda pinned back as wiry legs suddenly snapped straight out into a barrel racer-like stopp; before I skirt off to the left.
If I confused him enough with the sprayed snow, maybe I could lose him.

Indeed, Finn did stop and look around, blinking in confusion. "Hey!" he called out when he figured out what had happened. He immidiately started in the new direction and after Victoire. He was never that strong, and his legs weren't especially long, but by some grace of God, he had once again reached the mare. "Trying to play mind games with me, eh?" he asked, chuckling and bobbing his head in happiness. "Well, /you're it/!" he cried, nipping the very edge of her rump. He fell behind her as he slowed his pace and began bolting in the other direction. His lungs were burning from running, but he managed to press on, throwing up his head and bucking behind him playfully.

I had managed to get away from the two and up onto my cave. Standing there, waiting for one of them to came after me, I watched. Seeing Victoire dart and spray snow, I chuckled quietly. Then she was it, I knew by how Finn was close and then went away. Taking a few steps back, I was ready to play a game of hide and seek. Shaking my buckskin head, I stepped back from view. Behind the cave, I waited. It would be hard to smell me, but probably not to scent me. A thin smile wrapped up my lips as I watched the two from my hiding spot.

Only when I felt his ivories graze my freckled rump, did my wiry limbs throw themselves out into a barrel racerlike stop. Delicate audda were forward as coal pools watched Finn run off, snow colored tassles swinging from side to side.
Soon I lost his scent; and it was useless to even try and smell Justin out. The biting wind was welcomed, openly, as I stood there in a melancholy silence.

The silence felt so good as I stood there behind the large cave. My eyes closed gently and ears drooped. The whistling wind tugged every which way at me. Biting cold nipped at me. I could feel the muscles in my body starting to shut down and clench up. It wasn't good for me, but it was a good feeling. Just the feeling that I was escaping reality and completely shutting down for a moment. Then my eyelids snapped open. Her sweet and angelic tone carried to my now alert ears. Bright blue eyes searched the swirling flurries of snow for her dappled skin.
Stepping out from my hiding place, I stood there with head high. Tail snapped back and forth now as my muscles began to unfreeze from being solid. Her voice was still ringing in my head as a delicate smile formed across my maw. « J'ai raison ici, où je toujours ai été ». I was getting frustrated with this game, and it was probably evident to anyone who could see me. My rigid stance conveyed it well, but more often than not, if I was frustrated, I'd cry. It was like my frustration had it's owm little connection to my tear ducts - so that a good bit of frustration would cause tears to well up and unneeded apologies to be said. Since more often than not, most others thought I was crying because of something they said, not from my own frustration. And that didn't help one bit.
I let out an exasperated sigh, the smoke of it furling infront of me before disappearing with the wind, as flea bitten audda laid back into snow colored curls. I stopped, and decided to just stand there, even if my legs would grow numb.
"Justin, Finn, ceci n'est plus drôle!" I call out, my frustration clear in my muisical voice as it was carried off with the wind.

Indeed look like she was about to cry, but I wasn't ready to say sorry until I knew a reason to say sorry. Letting my muzzle glide along her, I didn't care if this was trick to get me tagged. Finn trotted up to them, smiling in anticipation - thinking they were still playing. However, when he saw their mushy faces and heard their soft tones towards one another, he knew instantly that the game was over. He did not say anything - he didn't want to interrupt, but he continued to stand there akwardly. First his sky blue eyes scanned the soft, freezing snow beneath him. Then they drifted to the horizon. He wondered where Golden Rose could be. It was unlike him, but he couldn't help but find that he was missing her. Had she gotten lost, perhaps? It was just like him to finally get a mare, and then lose her.

A quadrant of storm-hued daggers tapped the icy ground in a two-beat gait as the golden mare made her way across the land. Sun-kissed bod was slightly wet with movement, but it only made her colder. Arabians were not meant to be in this kind of weather, but at least she'd grow a thicker coat while here. And she'd found a brute she could actually trust. Russet orbs glanced around, attempting to catch a glance of any life here. Finally they found a figure; outline was hazy, but she could tell who and what it was by the black spots dotting the elegant frame. Finn! A small whinny escaped her maw as she sped up, arriving next to him. "Here I am," she said, slightly breathless. Milky banner swished tiredly, barely noticeable with her exhausted state.

Ears immidiately swiveled to catch the distant sounds of another equine. His bright blue eyes turned to gaze upon the most beautiful mare he had ever seen in his life."Rose!" Finn called out in response, practically skipping towards her. When he finally reached her, he touched his muzzle to hers softly in a warm greeting. "I can't believe you finally made it! It's so great to see you again!" He could see how cold she was, and he could understand. "Follow me," he told her. "There's a warmer spot over here. And the rest of the herd is this way."

My head turned away from the frustrated Victoire. The sound of hooves rang in my ears as Finn went to greet another. A golden mare stood by Finn with a happy look in her eyes. Smiling softly, I could tell Finn like this mare. Rose? I wasn't sure only because of the language barrier. Seeing their bodies drift closer, I turned more to face them. Raising my buckskin head I looked from spotted stallion to golden-hued mare. Letting my blue eyes settle on the mare, she seemed kind enough. Then looking to Victoire, I nudged her lightly before I began to speak to Finn.
„Sie haben nie eine Stute vor erwähnt“. Coy smile wrapping my charred muzzle. Tail lashing back and forth in the cold air. The snow seemed to stop falling for now and the wind bit at his body. Shaking his body, snow rolled off gracefully. Looking to Rose, I nodded my head. „Hallo, bin ich Justin. Alpha von diesem schneereichen Paradies“. Knowing she probably didn't know German or French, I didn't care.

Finn had to pull his eyes away from Rose for a moment as he looked towards Justin. "Gut war ich nicht genau sicher, wenn sie kam," he said, turning back towards his new mare. "Aber ich bin sie bin hier, jetzt froh." His blue eyes sparkled. "Rose, this is Justin, the alpha," he introduced her. "He only speaks German and French, though, so I'll have to translate. His mate is around here somewhere, but she speaks English, too." He turned to Justin once more and said, "Dieses ist goldene Rose - meine neue Stute."
