Here I was in the only place I did not want to be. The Claiming Grounds. I was hoping I wouldn't have to be here, that I'd already have a home. Somewhere to live. But there was nowhere for me to go unless someone would come for me.
The reason I was here, was because of the past. I was born from a Light Mare, who was forced by a Dark Stallion. I never met my Mother for my Dad killed her for I was a filly, and not a colt like he wanted. He needed a Heir for the land he once had, for he wanted to resign. Why was unknown, but because he did not have a heir, the awful Beta took the spot of Lead of that herd.
My Father, Bell'Uomo, tried to turn me Dark, but was unsuccesful and I stayed Light. He chased me away at the age of 1, and I was forced to stay alive by myself. I'm surprised I stayed alive that long, to be here at 2. Would someone find me here and take me home, or leave me here to die?
I, Ragina, would have to wait.

Here I was in the claiming grounds, to try and find my first bride. I had recently taken over the Ancient Canyons, soon after my father had left me and my mother. I was getting tired of my mother being the only herd member there, along with insisting to stay the alphess until I could find a replacement Queen. I had made the decision to choose my Queen from a selection of brides, but I needed a few brides first. I hadn't traveled long before a delicate ebony mare reached my view, she will work nicely. I flicked my black tassle against my roan appaloosa flank, whickering to her to let her now I was coming to inspect her. "Greetings mare, I am Zarek. Emporer to the Ancient Canyons."

I sighed in relief as someone finally came over to me. I looked him down to up, inspecting him to see if he would be fine. Yes, he would work nicely. I smiled and nickered a greeting to him. "I'm Regina," I said. "Nice to meet you, Zarok." I wondered what the Canyons were like, for I had never been there before. Would I like it there if I followed him back there?

"Ah, it's Zarek." I corrected her, many made mistakes on my name when they first spoke it though. I circled around her, a habit I picked up from my sir, studying her to see how well she would do. She seemed graceful enough to manage the canyon walls, and hopefully with enough stamina to make the trip there and survive there. A bit young, but I could be patient. I didn't have much of a choice. "As you are alone out here just waiting for nothing to happen, I will make you an offer to return with me to my lands. There you will be protected, given a home and such as one of my brides- just to stay as one of my brides and provide foals when you come of age." To some it was hardly a good deal, for others it was agreeable. But with hardly another nuetral stallion in sight, I shouldn't have much of a problem. When I get enough brides, I will probably choose the one who provides the best foal to be my Queen. Granted some mares may want me to choose over love, but does love even exist? My sire said he loved my mother, and where is he now? Neither of us know.

"Oh, I'm sorry," I said. I snorted and thought about his question for me to go back to his lands. He was already talking about foal to a filly like me. I'd be a mare soon enough though. I was 3 1/2. "Ok. I'll go," was my response. Who knew. Maybe I would like it there and maybe have my own foal one day.
