A chestnut mare followed Calamazoo into the Everly Desert, just happy to finally have a home. She came to a halt and took a look around the land. Yeah, it would need some getting used to, but she got used to things easily. "It'll take some getting used to," she said, smiling while looking at the stallion. "But I like it!" She meant it. She nickered and took another glance around the land. They were the only ones here, just like he had said.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
Cal smiled down at his new mare. "Welcome!" he said excitedly. "I'm glad you've come." The two almost looked like twins - two chestnuts standing beneath the blistering sun light. "I'm glad you like it. I would give you a tour, but there's not much. Just the oasis, if you want to go there."

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
"Well, I'm thirsty," Rose said with a smile, looking up at Cal. She was so excited to finally have a home, but she would have to stay calm. "Could you show me there?" she asked. If he wanted to be a good Alpha, he would. With the thought, Rose smiled.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
"Sure thing!" he said. He trotted slowly through across the sand and towards the small oasis which he had found earlier. "Well, here it is," he muttered, not knowing how else to introduce the small pool of water. He dipped his maw into the surprisingly cool oasis and drank until his insides were no longer burning from the heat. He walked into the pool until the lapping water reached the bottom of his belly. "Ah," he sighed. "Much better. Would you care to join me? The water's just right!"

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
Rose followed Cal across to the oasis. First thing she did was jump into the water to cool herself off. The water rose to her belly. She put her muzzle into the water and took one long guzzle, really thirsty and hot. She picked her head back up and looked at Cal. She all the sudden wanted to splash him, so she did.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)
Cal snorted as the water splashed over his burning hide. He dipped his muzzle into the water and sprayed water back towards Rose. "So you want to play dirty, do you?" he asked, playfully. He walked a circle around her, ready to dodge the next wave she sent his way. He whinnied happily and shook his mane out of his eyes so that he could be ready.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
Rose whinnied as the cool water hit her hot body. She smiled, watching him, planning her next move. "Playing dirty is always fun, don't you think?" she said, playfully. She splashed out at him again, hoping he wouldn't dodge it and the small wave of water would splash him.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
He tried to dodge out of the way, but a few drops of water still managed to spray onto his rump as he moved. "Of course," he replied. "And that's why I'm always getting in trouble: normally others don't like it when I play by my own rules." He came closer to her and said more quietly, "And that's why I like you: you don't care," he smiled, then sent another splash her way, flicking his tail mischeviously.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:07 PM (GMT)
She giggled as she tried to dodge out of the way of the splash, but was just not fast enough and the water splashed on her. "Most say I'm too active and playful," she said with a giggle. "But you don't care, do you?" She didn't think so, because he was acting playful, too. But you never know. She put her head under the water and splashed water up as her head came back up.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
He dodged the wave completely this time, and whinnied in triumph. "Of course I don't care!" he snorted. "I've always been the goof-ball, and sometimes people get annoyed by it." He reared up to his full height, kicked his front legs out a couple times, then came crashing down into the water, spraying them both. He chuckled playfully as he shook the water and his wet mane from his face.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
She couldn't dodge this one. She giggled playfully as they both got sprayed with water. "I'm always the goof-ball, too," she said. So far, they had a lot in common as far as she knew. they were both active, playful, goof-balls. She wouldn't tell him that she has dumb moments though. He doesn't need to know that, she decided. She reared up like he had done, but instead of crashing into the water, she gently came back in. She did it, hoping he would think she was about to crash into the water. She then splashed him with her face.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
Cal winced and turned away, awaiting the splash, but when it didn't come, he turned around in confusion. "Wha . . .?" he asked, but then the real splash came and hit him full on. He snorted, getting the water out of his nose. "Hey!" he cried, smiling. He kicked his rear legs out this time, spraying her back.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
Rose laughed at his confusion. "I've practiced that," she said, playfully. She was splashed by him and snorted. She splashed him back with her front hooves. She hadn't had this much fun in a while! She was actually enjoying herself, which hadn't happened since she was a little foal.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
Cal stopped for a second because he was laughing so hard. He looked down at his drenched coat and said, "What do you say we take a break for a while?" He came closer to her and nipped her playfully and added, "But I'll get you next time!" He walked out of the pool with Rose at his side. He kneeled down and rolled around in the sand, trying to dry himself off, but when he stood again, he was covered in white-brown dirt from head to foot. "Oh," he muttered. "Woops. That wasn't supposed to happen!"

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Rose climbed out of the water and smiled, looking at Cal. "That is what you think!" she said, playfully. She watched as he rolled in the dirt, then giggled as he came up with it on him. "Thanks, now I know not to do that!" she said, playfully again.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
"Oh, shut up," Cal muttered, but still smiling. He walked back into the water and tried to wash the dirt off, but some was still stuck deep in his coat, and it was very itchy and uncomfortable. "Ah!" he cried. "It's so itchy! I . . . can't . . . get it!" he muttered as he circled, trying to reach his head around to his back to get to the scratch.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
Rose smiled. She saw him trying to get it off. Cal might not like what she was going to try and do, but it was worth a shot. She walked into the water and began to lick off the remaining dirt. She then put her head in the water and swished it around to get the dirt out of her mouth. She continued to do that.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
Cal sighed, breathing heavily after his trying efforts at getting the dirt out of his coat. "Thank you," he murmured. He turned to her and said again, "Thank you. I coudn't have done it without you."

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
Rose nodded to his 'Thank you'. "No problem," she said with a smile. "Now you know not to dot that." She said it playfully to tell him she wasn't being rude by saying that. She continued to get the dirt off until it looked like she got it all.

W Smack - December 26, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
Cal nodded and snorted. "Yeah, no kidding," he murmured. He shook his mane. "I think you got it all," he said. "Thanks," he said again. He felt stupid saying the same thing over and over again. "Sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record," he said, shrugging.

abbydoodle96 - December 26, 2007 08:22 PM (GMT)
Rose nodded and smiled. "Yeah, I got it," she said. "No, its ok!"

((short post.))

W Smack - December 27, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
The chestnut stallion let out a sigh and smiled. "I'm glad you've come here," he muttered. "I - I don't know what I would have done without you."

((OOC: Eh, short post as well.))

abbydoodle96 - December 27, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
The chestnut mare smiled at the complimant. Well, that was how she took it as. "I'm glad you brought me here," she said back. "This is the most fun I've had in a while." She remembered her mom and began to wonder what she was doing with her new stallion, Santico. She didn't know anything about her new twin half-sisters. She shook that out of her mind and looked back at Cal.

W Smack - December 27, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
Cal nodded, smiling. "Yeah, me, too," he said. He hesitated, and then added, "I don't think I could have found a better mare." He touched his dripping muzzle to her shoulder tenderly, but awkwardly. He had never done this before, so he wasn't really sure what to say or do.

abbydoodle96 - December 28, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
Rose smiled back. She couldn't help but keep thinking about her past life. She needed to let go of the past, so she could actually have a future. With this stallion, perhaps? She couldn't think of anything to say, so she gave him a quick nuzzle on the neck.

W Smack - December 28, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
Cal smiled as her soft muzzle touched him. Suddenly, he leaped out of the oasis, whinnying loudly. "Ok," he said excitedly. "Enough of this. I've sat still for too long. What do you say to a good run? I need to let some energy out. I'll race you!"

abbydoodle96 - December 29, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Rose smiled as he suddenly lept out. She really liked his energy, and how he always wanted to run or do /something/. "Let's race!" she said, taking the challenge. She hadn't had a race since she was a foal, and couldn't wait to see if she was still fast.

W Smack - December 30, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
Cal snorted and smiled. "Ok, line up." He trotted towards Rose so that they were side by side, his skin brushing up against hers. "On the count of three, we'll start." He peered out across the empty terrain. He spotted a dead, white tree on the horizon. "We'll run to that tree and back, got it?"

abbydoodle96 - December 31, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
Rose smiled as he explained what they were going to do. To the tree and back, he said. She could do that. "1...2..." she began to say, then pausing for a moment. "3!" she shouted as she took off to go for the tree.

W Smack - December 31, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
The stallion's reaction time wasn't as good as it used to be, so he got a bit of a late start, but his long legs caught up with Rose quite easily. He tossed his head and whinnied happily as he kicked his white legs faster. He turned his attention to Rose and called in a sing-song voice, "I'm gonna win! I'm gonna win!"

abbydoodle96 - December 31, 2007 05:48 PM (GMT)
The chestnut mare kicked her long legs and ended up right next to Cal. "No you aren't! No you aren't!" she said in the same voice. They continued to run. Rose raced to the tree and began to gallop back to where they started. Would she win?

W Smack - December 31, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
Cal rounded the tree as well, his long strides matching Rose's. They were neck and neck as they bolted for the finish line. Cal loved to run, and with his father's Quarter Horse genes, and his mother's Arabian ones, he was quite fast, too. However, he was not used to running on this kind of terrain, and his legs kept getting caught in the quicksand-like ground.
He stretched out his neck, and flared his nostrils, breathing hard and he worked his pistons as hard as he could - giving it all he had. He could see the oasis, it was so close now!
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a small, prickly brush. However, he caught sight of this too late, and soon one of his rear hooves was caught in the bush, and he was toppling over. His other legs buckled beneath him and he whinnied in surprise as he was suddenly catapulted to the ground. He rolled twice, and then lay still in the sand, his sides heaving as he tried to catch his breath and figure out what had happened to him.

abbydoodle96 - December 31, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
Rose and Cal were right beside each other as the oasis came so close. They were almost there and...
Boom. There was a quiet boom and she saw Cal fall back. What happened? She stopped for a moment and hoped this wasn't a trick. She saw him on the ground so she just stood there for a moment.
"Are you ok?" Rose asked.

W Smack - December 31, 2007 07:26 PM (GMT)
Cal groaned and opened his eyes. "Ughn . . ." he groaned. "What happened?" He lifted his head wearily and looked back to his leg. The small, prickly brush was wrapped around his back left leg. He had ripped it clear out of the ground. He kicked his leg out, trying to shake the brush off, but it wouldn't budge. "Could you help me?" he asked, looking up to Rose. "I feel like you've been helping me a lot since you got here. Sorry I had to cut our run short. We'll start a new race next time, and next time I'll make sure there are no killer bushes around." He smirked at his own joke as he looked up at his one and only mare.

Guest - January 1, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
Rose nodded and moved her head down to start helping him get the brush off. She continued to do that until she had gotten it all off of his hoof. "Its ok," she said with a smile. "We can start a new race later." She looked around the land again. They were all alone. How long would that be for? When would Cal get more herd members?

W Smack - January 1, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
((OOC: Oh, believe me, I'm looking, but no one seems to be showing up . . .))

Cal stood to his fool height, shaking his head and kicking his leg out again, as if the bush was still there. He turned to survey his hoof. His white stocking was a little bit pink from the blood that was dripping from a small cut near his hock. He walked the short distance back into the oasis and washed his leg off. He emerged from the water again and nuzzled Rose. "Thank you," he muttered again.

abbydoodle96 - January 1, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
((OOC: It seems like more dark mares are coming up, not light. ))

Rose smiled as she watched him wash himself off. She nodded to his 'Thank you' and nuzzled him back. She was really starting to like this stallion. He was funny, playful, and he didn't want to rush into things, and she liked that. They somehow had a lot in common, but Rose wasn't complaining about that. "So...what do you want to do now?" she asked him.

W Smack - January 1, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
((OOC: I know! So unfair!))

He looked around the wasteland. The sun was setting in the west and making the sky a bright pink color. "I'm not sure," he murmured. "Hey, look at that." He pointed his muzzle to the horizon where the orange sun was getting smaller and smaller by the second. He couldn't see any stars out, yet, but it was getting to be a little bit late in the evening.

abbydoodle96 - January 1, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
She looked over to what he told her to look at. She smiled at the sunset then looked over to Cal. She had always loved sunsets, because she always thought they were beautiful. "Its beautiful," she said.
