Title: Gamestop pre-orders
Description: How do they work

Malakai - October 19, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
I just pre-ordered the HD-DVD drive for 360 on gamestop.com. They only took $1 out of my account. I'm guessing they charge the rest when they ship the item, but how good are they about shipping the items on time? And are you guaranteed to get the item, or is there a possability of delays and cancelations, etc..

This is just about the only place I've found to pre-order the system.

The reason why I am asking is because I've had bad luck with some other sites in pre-ordering stuff. I remember using amazon.com, and they kept delaying and saying they ran out of items over and over and that they would give me free shipping, and then it was like 10% off the order, and I finally told them to cancel it.

I also had similar experiences with walmart and bestbuy...

Well, I asked gamestop.com the question, and here was their response:

We hope to have enough items to cover all pre-orders in our system.
However, the possibility exists that we may not have the quantity to
meet the demand. There is no way to know if your order will be shipped
as soon as we receive the item at this time.

Your pre-order should be honored for as long as it takes for you to get your system. At least, that's from my own logic (and snippits of what I've heard from employees while I've visited GS shops and EB Games). That would make sense, anyway; if they do it some other weird way then that just sucks.

i work at EB, so i have never pre-ordered any thing on-line. I know in the stores for some items we have a certain number of pre prders we can take ( most of the time it's systems or limited edition games ).

But most of the time we can take as many pre orders that we can get and fill them all.

I hope you get your stuff on time, but for future pre orders i would go to the store directly to avoid any issues.

Are local ebgames/gamestops taking preorders on the hd-dvd drives? I might just cancel the order online if they're a better bet. heh

For some reason, ebgames/gamestop has pushed back the release date to the 8ths instead of the 7th... amazon.com still has the release date as the 7th.. Wonder if they know some thing we don't.
