just the other day i recieved a NES and ive been cleaning it. but sometimes the games still dont work, u have to get it in just the right spot. is this normal for NES's to do this or is somthing screwed up.

Sounds pretty normal to me, actually. Sometimes with old systems I've noticed (and this could very well be me) that the game will start playing when you adjust the position of the pins in the connector.

And yes, NES systems are known for blinking and not playing all of the games perfectly well. The toaster's a jittery bug, it is.

And don't be afraid to go ahead and introduce yourself in the introduction thread in the "Chat away with fellow members" section of the board! :)

Yea, the NES blinking and messing up is actually normal. welcome aboard!

To stop blinking, couldn't you just tighten or replace the 72 pin connector, found on the back end of the toaster NES where the cartridge contacts are inserted? You can get new connectors on ebay for pretty cheap. You can clean to no end, but you will get mixed results. I know, I have a toaster and a toploader. Not trying to sound like a wiseass.

You definately could, replacing the connector is probably the best idea. But if you don't know how to solder or anything like that, it might be best to either invest in a top-loader (I hear they're more reliable overall) or pick up a cheap clone. I've got one for Famicom games and one for NES NTSC/PAL games, both of which work much better than my toaster.

Hey, are you saying you have Messiah's Generation NEX 'console?' I 've heard they're pretty sweet, and they even let you play Earthbound Zero and other Famicom games. Playability isn't at 100% yet, but if they are as durable as a top-loader, I may consider it.

I don't have a NEX, no; I've got the Yobo Famicom clone and the Flashback NES clone (it's different from the Atari Flashback console, the NES Flashback is sold as a stand-alone system at Fry's Electronics). I would've bought a NEX if they were selling them at CGE, but alas, they weren't. I played one at the show though, it's really a very nice console, and I need to order one online and have it come in because that would be an awesome addition to my NES collection. :)

The top loading NES is the best. No more troubles with blinking and blowing in cartridges. Try to pick up that one.
