Title: RoB coming to American VC??
Kain - April 1, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
According to wikipedia, who is always on their game when it comes to listing the Virtual Console lineups, The PC Engine game ADX: Chi No Rondo (CDX: Rondo of Blood) is scheduled to be on the Japanese VC for 800 points this month. No foolin' this time.
Nothing would be more gratifying than to see it arrive in the States, uncensored and faithful to the original, provided the translations are accurate as can be. So far, games imported from Japan to the US VC have been pretty darn good, and this would be a great addition to the whole lineup.
Who needs DX Chronicles when you can see and play the original game on an HDTV instead of a dinky two-inch screen?
This would also put to rest the need for me to light hundreds of dollars on fire- to get the actual system and pay heavy shipping costs- just to play this game alone.
VC has the best TG16 games for way less than you'd pay for the HuCards themselves.
We shall see what's in store for us... :D
Other impressions??

That would be pretty sweet if that came to the US Virtual Console. I've never played it but I heard it is the best Castlevania ever!

I'm not quite sure I'd call Rondo of Blood the best castlevania, because it is kind of short. Symphony of the Night, also called Dracula X in Japan, is longer and IMO better.
Why is it better, to me? Like I said, the game is a lot longer, is fun pretty much all the way through it, has more bosses I believe, and has more RPG elements to it, as well as being able to play Maria.
ROB reminds me more of an arcade adventure. There was actually a version of it on the SNES, also called Dracula X (or XX in Japan) but they switched around some of the controls and many of the levels, but otherwise, the graphics and such are about the same. If you have an SNES Emu*COUGH*Later*COUGH* check it out.
The PC Engine version of Dracula X use to go for about $250, but now it looks like you may be able to get it for around $100. You can play it on a few emulators if you don't have a turbo duo, but if it's coming to WiiVC, then it would probably be a good alternative. Nothing beats playing it on a tv.

Yeah I played the SNES one- it's pretty lame and not worth collecting. A dumbed down version of RoB. Another reason Japanese companies need to quit being stingy with their games and just bring them here.
I emailed Nintendo the other day, and they have informed me they have little control over which third party (non-Nintendo-made) titles make it to the VC. It's really up to the companies themselves whether we see them or not. I believe that.
Next stop- Konami Japan :). Hopefully Igarashi knows enough English to realize that American gamers like us want to see its release on to the US VC.

Man, I hope they can figure out this Goldeneye thing. I want that on VC in the worst way! They have to do it justice and add online, though.

Can you play PC Engine games on a Duo? There isn't a regional lock out on a Duo, right?
Malakai - April 5, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
You can play the cd and super cd games on a duo. If you want to play arcade card games or pc engine hu-cards, you have to have a converter, as the pins weren't wired the same on the US and Japanese models.

I really want to see that too, but I doubt we'll see Goldeneye on the VC. Licensing costs are way too high, since Microsoft owns Rare.
I don't know if there's an online feature for this game, but-
Give Sin and Punishment a try...

Just as I anticipated! RoB is offically on the Japanese VC. (rereleased April 22- see for yourself). I can't get ahold of Igarashi himself, so I don't know what his next move is.
As far as were concerned, aside from this, I can't freakin believe anyone could possibly refuse a Wii now. New supplies at local stores here are on the way and the US VC has the best lineup of games for download I've ever seen in my life- which justifies a Wii purchase.
Phantasy Star games for 800 points is a steal, considering what they used to cost (2 and 3 are out now, I'm sure 4 will be too).
Feel the wrath folks. Nintendo will be top dog once again.
Malakai - April 27, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
also according to wikipedia, right now there are about:
221 virtual console games
127 xbox live arcade games
34 psx network games lol
It looks like the wii will definitely take the win for downloadable games.

Not to mention that's all just in the US alone. Japan has already exceeded 300 VC games!! Go big N!!! :)

Well, if I didn't have so many things to buy right now, I'd start saving for a Wii... but who knows how long it'll be before I can get one.. When I had the money several times in the past and tried to find one, they were nowhere to be found.
Kain - April 29, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
You were probably trying to get them during the so called shortage era. They should be easier to find now. Even if you buy a Gamestop bundle, you may still need a few more accessories like the Classic controller and memory card to go with everything else, but it's definitely worth every penny. I have had tons of fun with the Wii, and Fire Emblem would be a good start if you're looking for a good RPG.
Trust me when I say Wii will not disappoint you. As I've said the VC lineup is killer and is only getting better, and the classic controller is brilliant- it's basically like an SNES one with control sticks and a few extra buttons.
