Title: Games you're looking forward to?

RetroYoungen - August 9, 2006 07:40 AM (GMT)
Just wondering what games anybody's looking forward to in the up-coming generation.

Me, I'm watching these commercials for Dead Rising, and while I don't know what else is done in the game (missions for killing a specific zombie maybe?) I'm stoked for when I find enough money to pick up a 360.

Well, I played the two demo levels for LOST PLANET and was blown away. The Resident Evil 4 guys did it again. If you havenlt tried it and have X-Box live, it is a free download, so give it a shot!

I wish I had a PSP, it looks like some really good stuff is coming through the pipeline (or is already out), like the Gradius Collection and the new Ghosts & Goblins (or Ghouls & Ghosts, whatever).

I am looking most forward to playing Caesar IV on the PC. The previous one was really addictive with the SimCity-style gameplay and structure. I expect this one to offer nice additional features this time around. Gamespot has a good preview article on this upcoming game

...and I also can't wait for the Wii and its virtual console (hopefully unreleased games like Secret of Mana 2 will be playable)

A lot of people say that there's a reason why some games haven't been released in the US, and Secret of Mana 2 is no exception. I've played it several times, and it sucks. It doesn't live up to secret of mana 1, which is probably my favorite SNES game.

I disagree. No one should write off unreleased titles that quickly. Great series come to mind- like Fire Emblem, Mother I (Earthbound Zero), early Final Fantasy games, Dragon Quest 7, not to mention the import Saturn titles like Radiant Silvergun that the U.S. deserved the same privilege of playing. Those greats were in Japan way before we saw them. Fire Emblem took around a decade to bring to the States. Unreleased games eventually arrive here and they do not always suck.

I was talking specifically about SOM2 and 3, which are a total disappointment. There are also a lot of dating, horse, hacking, and political simulation games in japan that just wouldn't do well here, and then you have games like Lunar Magical School, which while I have never played, the people here in the US have stated that it did not live up to their expectations and would not be released here.

There are some awesome games that never released though. A lot of digital comics, role playing games, strategy games, etc. Burai, several war simulation games (not just koei), like 3 cosmic fantasy games that weren't released in the US (although a lot of people don't like cosmic fantasy). Some other variations of castlevania/dracula x, etc... The pc engine version of symphony of the night (dracula x) is awesome.

The saturn had more shining force games (i don't care for them, but a lot of people do) and a lot of front mission type stuff like Wachen Roder, and then you have a 1 and 4mb upgrade carts on the saturn which allowed arcade-like graphics on the saturn for metal slug, dungeons and dragons, x-men vs sf, marvel vs street fighter, etc, all released in japan.

We could probably go back even further to the SNES, with several of the dragon quest games, star ocean, cotton 100%, far east of eden series, bahamut lagoon and the almighty Tales of Phantasia!

I have many imports myself and understand why people wished we had a lot of the same games they do, but now days, I think Japan generally knows what the American public likes and is marketting many games that would have never came here five or seven years ago. No, not all good games come, but it's getting better, IMO.

I'd love to have the chance to see some of those odd games that never would sell here. Not the horse-racing sims (I own one, I've played it exactly twice and just wasn't interested), but the quirky RPGs, political sims (I've thoroughly enjoyed The Political Machine on my PC), along with those awesome games of genres Americans love that never saw the light of day in North America. I know I wouldn't like everything that could come down the pipeline... but I'd really like to experience some of them to make up my own mind.

I guess I meant to say most unreleased games arrive here and don't suck. I know what you guys mean though. It's good to know they understand us that way. I wish the reverse was true (sigh).

I'm talking about Microsoft

Malakai - September 2, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
I kind of lost a lot of respect with microsoft, due to them cancelling their XBOX MMORPG. I believe they had 2 reasons.. The first was that their MMORPG was going to be too much like final fantasy online (i think that's the one at least, don't quote me on that) and secondly, they said their programming team just couldn't do it. That tells you a lot about microsoft. You'd think, with as many resources as they have, they could do any thing, but microsoft being a big corperation really doesn't mean any thing. Other than Windows and their yearly program updates, their other projects are taken care of by very small teams that are usually overwelmed with what they have to get done and in a timely manner.

Take a look at the story of the xbox 1 itself. At any given time, that console could have stayed just a concept and never released. The XBOX was a concept based on like 2 guys ideas. Bill gates and microsoft had very little to do with the system itself.
