Two bits of bad news for people wanting to buy a PS3. Sony will no longer be putting a free Blu-Ray disc movie in the retail boxes, and they have also said that they are not even considering lowering the prices, which I believe they were only a month or so before the Warner Bros announcement.
For people who think that the format war's end will actually help out the consumer, think again. Not long ago, Sony even stopped the mail-in rebate (or rather, free mail-in blu-ray movies.) Now that blu-ray doesn't have a competition, those 4 mail-in movies and the 1 pack-in movie will not be offered, yet the price will be the same. Congrats, Sony, you just yanked about $140 worth of bonuses from your PS3, not cut the prices to show for it, and just took a big, long, hard sh** on every PS3 fanboy out there. You've even sacrificed what was suppose to be primarily a gaming system to push blu-ray technology.
I suppose it is sometimes better to wait on the sidelines and see what happens. Sony is showing its true colors. They should be humbled, excited, and more willing than ever to have won the format war, but this is how they show it?
Sony has a record of investing in technologies that have failed so often that they just don't know what to do with success when it hits them on the a$$. HD-DVD supporters have been predicting what would have happened if only one format was around, and every bit of it is coming true already.
Sony is a trash company that now we're all going to be forced to buy in to, if we want a physical hi-def media. They're known for making the cheapest electronics junk that any one could ever buy. They got their name for inventing failed technologies. Why should that make one so popular?
Every one at Nintendo that was responsible for the PS1 should all be crucified and beaten with a thorny whip for 200 days and nights.
PS3 is like the turd that won't flush. Their bc feature sucks hard. It's just a gaming pc. The library is pathetic. I don't need to go down the line of reasons again. I've just never heard of being down and out in the 7th gen wars and staying in the console business just because your name happens to be Sony. A name everyone knows because life force feeds it to us.
I can't even go to the park anymore without someone jogging with a Walkman or something they made "with the consumer in mind."
With PC drives out and blu box 360 on the way, I take back what I said about even considering getting a PS3.
I've grown numb to Sony and their blunders. People buy their stuff because "they're supposed to," nothing else.
Malakai, you write this stuff like you're surprised they did it. They're filthy by nature, man.
Long live sega, I miss them in the hardware wars :( damn sony.....killing off the saturn and huring the dreamcast( which was so innovative.)
I hate to even ask this, but I really love jrpgs and I have some extra dough coming in and plan on getting a ps3. Do you guys know which version I should get? I heard they stopped making some? Is their online free?
The first version I believe had the most backwards compatibility, because it had like a PS2 built in to it, while the other BC version actually emulates it through software, but beware, the $399 version isn't BC at all, and they're (Sony) talking about taking BC out of all of their new PS3 systems before long.
Most likely, you won't find the original PS3 in stores. So, your best bet would be Ebay. Otherwise, if you don't want BC, just get the $399 version. At least it'll do blu-ray for you, while you wait a couple years for a good JRPG or two :/
Thanks, I heard something about an emotion chip being taken out of the new ps3 system to save money, not sure what thats all about.
