Title: Rumor: goonies coming to hd-dvd

There is a rumor that The Goonies may be coming to HD-DVD, in France, sometime in 2008. If the rumors are true, this would not be the first Dick Donner film to come to HD-DVD (Ala Superman) but it would be the first Spielberg film on HD-DVD.

Awhile back, it was announced that ET, Jaws, and Jurassic Park would be coming to HD-DVD, because universal films went HD-DVD exclusive. However, Spielberg apparently threw a fit and said that titles that he owned may not be coming to HD-DVD.

Will this mean that we won't have the mentioned movies or Indiana Jones coming to HD-DVD in the USA? Or will their be a power struggle between studios and directors?

Indiana Jones films are written by both George Lucas, which hasn't released any thing on Hi-Def at all yet but most of his stuff is distributed by Fox, which is blu-ray exclusive currently, as well as Spielberg. Spielberg is most likely a blu-ray fan, but the distributor is HD-DVD exclusive.

I think many people would love to see some format neutrality by all studios in 2008. It's time to let the people decide what they want. That means disney, fox, lionsgate, starz (formally anchor bay - ala halloween), universal, and paramount should definitely let people choose which format they want.

We've already heard about the 51gb hd-dvd vote on disney's side, but what are they voting for? a what-if scenario? or are they just preparing for blu-ray to lose? Other than the pirates movies, what does disney even have to offer? They have a lot to offer, but it's mainly newer movies like hidalgo, coyote ugly, and bologna like that which is coming to a hi-def format. What about sword in the stone, black cauldron, tron, robin hood, jungle book, not to mention many other live-action oldies disney movies, some of which never made it even to dvd? Disney has one of the largest libraries of movies, but yet they don't seem very interested in releasing most of them for some reason.

I just wanted to enter a correction........ There has been one Spiegberg HD-DVD out: Twilight Zone, which was pretty much just a few directors and a few short films, remakes of some of the old black and white twilight zone shows.

The Twilight Zone was a movie that many people, including Spielberg, thought it shouldn't have been finished or released, because three actors, including two child actors: Myca Dinh Le (age 7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (age 6) were killed in a helicopter crash scene in the making of the movie. The other actor was Vic Morrow. Morrow and Le were decapitated and Chen was crushed when the copter crashed. Apparently, they were doing a pyrotechnic stunt while the helicopter was hovering too low.
