Title: December Finds
Malakai - December 1, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
Well, December is here, by a little over two hours, and I've ended up getting a new game already.
Snatcher for the Sega CD system! One of the most sought after North-American Sega CD games. This is a comic adventure with some gamegun shooting elements in it. Some people even consider it an RPG.

Where did you get it? How much!?!? Wanna give it to me?
Malakai - December 2, 2007 05:24 PM (GMT)
#1: I got it from a dude in Canada.
#2: I paid too much for the game. It's considered a cult classic, like blade runner, but to me, it's not that great of a game. I'm mainly getting it for collector's sake.
#3: Yes, I want to give this game to you, but I just can't heh :/

I've only got a few more $40+ sega/mega cds to go. That's not counting all of the countless cheaper games I don't have yet..
Popful Mail (US)
Orgel (Japan)
Shadowrun (Japan)
Keio Flying Squadron (US = $175ish or Japan = $50+)
Earthworm Jim
Theme Park (Europe = $140ish)
Smurfs (Europe)
Of course, just because the games go for so high some times doesn't mean I'll buy them at that price or that I have the money to spend when they do come around. I like to find the best deals possible...

Snatcher was such a great game! I paid seventy for mine years ago, it was worth it though...

Popful mail was a great game. It kind of reminds me of that Saturn game, the final one released, it was a girly rpg, I can't remember the name! Umm Magic Knight rayearth I think
Malakai - December 8, 2007 01:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I have Magic Knight Rayearth. I believe it had way too many cutscenes for me to enjoy.
If I remember correctly, Popful Mail kind of reminds me of Lena Inverse from the Anime Slayers. For an action RPG, it is decent.

Well, I finally got a chance to look at the PS1 games I got..They are..
#1: Nightmare creatures - pretty scratched up disc though
#2: Galerians
#3: Caesers Palace 2000 Millennium Gold Edition
Malakai - December 10, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
Well, I've hit the jackpot with a very elusive PS1 game called Ranma-Chan no Ooeto Surogoku: Keio Yugekitai Gaiden. This is probably one of the rarest commercial PS1 games around, released in Japan only, and there apparently is no 100% English translation of the title. It is a spinoff of the Keio Flying Squadron series (considered to be the last Keio game) but is a board game with anime cutscenes, etc.
The game and accessories are in mint condition and even include the spine card, with an estimated value of around $90. Unfortunately, I had to take from my sega/mega cd funds for the week to get it heh.
Now, I don't know if I'm going to keep it, sell it, or trade it yet, since it is a PS1 game, and I don't really collect playstation stuff.
Here is a webpage with screenshots of the game and cutscenes:

Picked up Dino Crisis for the DC, used from Goodwill for $3 and picked up Arthur and the Invisbles for the PS2, new for $7 from Sears.
Malakai - December 16, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
Some more sega cd games:
Rise of the Dragon
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein/Bram Stokers Dracula 2-pack
Ground Zero Texas
Animals, The San Diego Zoo Presents
All US versions - I already had the Japanese version of Rise of the Dragon but never really tried it out. It's suppose to be a good game though.

I suppose today was kind of a lucky day for me.. I went to four stores....... The first store, I didn't find anything to buy. The 2nd store, I found the DOS games, which were marked as $2.50 apiece. When I got to the cashier, she said "we'll mark them as $1.50 apiece."
The 3rd store, I found the PS1 and other PC games on the list. The lady said they were $1 per disc. I bought them all, and she said "to heck with it. Just give me $1 per game" and then gave me the strategy guide free.
The 4th store, I went to lowes to get some supplies, including a bag of fertilizer. Anyway, as we got to the cashier, she busted the bag of fertilizer accidentally, and I got the bag 50% off.
I've never had this much good luck in a single day that I can remember. Most every thing discounted, even the freebie strategy guide. I wanted to keep shopping at various other stores and see what would happen, but it was getting late, and money was getting low....

If Wii doesn't win this war, then DS will still give Nintendo a boost- it is an awesome handheld, despite its shortcomings.
I got sick of the stuff I had and ended up exchanging them at a used game store called Replays for:
A DS lite
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin is uncommon, very well done, and addictive (once you get the gist of it).
I also have some GBA games to go with it
Sword of Mana
Breath of Fire
Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
I realize they're not Alshark or Snatcher, but they aren't a dime a dozen either.

Another game find:
The Misadventures of Flink, for the Sega CD.
This game is getting to be pretty rare, even though the going prices don't seem to show for it. It has surprisingly good and colorful graphics for a sega cd platformer. It apparently was available on both the sega genesis and the sega cd. The differences most likely are the ?!?fmv intro?!? on the sega cd version and cd music, but I'm not sure yet, as I haven't played it.

You'd think that with all of these years of talking about the sega cd and knowing that I do collect sega and mega cd games, that my collection would be close to being complete, but I actually only have around (or a little more than) half of the games through cross-collecting.
When I say cross-collecting, I mean that some times, I may get the Japanese version of a game that may have also been released in the USA and count it as part of a whole collection. Some times, that works out through buying the occasional game lots and just getting those as extras, and occasionally, it may mean settling for one version over another.
In some cases, like Sonic CD, the soundtrack is different on the Japanese version. In other cases, like dark wizard, bari-arm, and a few others, the Japanese cover art blows the North-American cover art away. It's also getting to a point now where I'm not really liking the large North-American cases, not only because the crack and break easily but because they're so big and bulky. I need as much cabinet space as I can get.
I also count 2-pack games as having both games, when I don't have the single-release versions. Most of the 2-pack games, if not all, actually have 1 single-release game and another game that hasn't been released individually. For example, Frankenstein was not released individually, while its other pack-in game, Bram Stoker's Dracula was. 3 Ninjas Kick Back wasn't released individually, while hook was. Ultraverse Prime wasn't released individually, while Microcosm was.
