Samsung announced in 2005 that they would be releasing a Dual Format HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player in 2006. They then went on and made two blu-ray only players.

It was then recently announced in 2007 that the Samsung dual format system was set to be released soon, but it would not hold final specs from the blu-ray side of things.

For those of you who do not know (And I just recently found out) - Blu-Ray Camp has just released the final specs, a year after hitting the market. Any system coming out after Oct 31st, 2007, will have to meet those final specs. Previous systems will be obsolete and will not work with these updates, with the exception of the PS3 system.

Now, the Samsung is being delayed again, for a 2008 launch, most likely to make the last changes for the finalized blu-ray specs.

Depending on when this system is released (its competing with LG's 2nd dual format player: the LG BH200), it could be the first dual format player with official DVD Forum Approval.
