The Resident Evil Trilogy is announced for release on Blu-Ray on January 2nd, 2008 for an appx price of $58.95. This will include:
Resident Evil: The Hive*
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Resident Evil: Extinction
*We call the first movie "The Hive," even though it usually is printed as just Resident Evil. The Hive is what some people know the movie as. It is a great title for the movie, as it introduces us to the hive.
Will these be special or extended editions? Who knows?
We kind of feel that Sony is announcing a trilogy too soon. Even though they originally stated that Extinction would be the last RE movie, they've made it clear that Extinction has done so well as the box office that it opens up the possibility that there will be more Resident Evil movies to come. We'd rather see a Quadrilogy or higher set!
Sony had already released Apocalypse on Blu-Ray, as a first-gen disc.
Other HD formats:
Resident Evil was originally released in HD in Japan, as a pack-in item for new HD-DVD players earlier this year. It will also be released in Japan for store shelves in December 2007. Both Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse have been released on HD-DVD in Germany, and we should also be getting RE: Extinction on HD-DVD in Germany as well.
