Title: Weekly Poll 7/26

Steve - July 26, 2006 05:15 AM (GMT)
I've gone 12 hours personally, then my eyes hurt for over 2 days!

krissyk - July 26, 2006 05:23 AM (GMT)
The thing is, when I am bored I could play games for hours, but then, since I have a short attention span, I get distracted easily and stop

Malakai - July 26, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
Years ago, I've played a few games for over a week at a time with out any sleep. I suppose the excitement, anxiety, and adrenaline kept me going, but that stuff will play tricks on your mind after a few days.

Steve - July 29, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
Over a week without sleep? wow, I thought after 5 days without sleep the minds enters a delusional state.

shaggy - July 29, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
I picked 6 hours but I bet I've done 10+ hours. This was of course when I was younger like between 10 and 16 but now I bet I'd fall asleep!

Yeah, I think I was around 14-16 when I did that a few times. Even though I played NES games and such, it wasn't console games that I was playing that long on. It was two BBS games: Mutants and Crossroads of the Elements. I played mutants on 3 local bbs systems, and crossroads on 1. Those were my most fond memories of playing games. Chat, farwest trivia, legend of the red dragon, barren realms elite, pimp wars, evangelist wars, Usurper, death masters, clans, kannons and katapults (any one remember ansi music? heh), etc.

At one time, I probably called 20x dialup boards a day to play LORD and BRE and eventually became a Sysop of a 3 node PCBoard BBS system in the early 90s.

Those were some great times, and I have thought about them many years and have been wanting to start another board when I saw that Synchronet came back in to development around 2000 or 2001, and soon thereafter, there was ways to use synchronet to became a telnet server for other old dos boards.

Then we go back a few more years in to the past, when I bought out a Computer Store/ISP, which actually used a Worldgroup Server. The actual software was missing, but I got all of the registration numbers and activation codes and several addons, manuals, etc... I even had the license transferred in to my name, to get all legal.

The problem was this. There really were very few software vendors left for worldgroup. So, I ditched any plans to put up a board. I sold off all 48 external modems and 3 16-port external multi serial port devices, and even worldgroup itself, with the understanding that the guy who bought it would have to transfer the license in to his name ($50 fee). I gave him all of the information, a written receipt, etc.

So, I find out that in 2004, some one starts buying out old software vendors, trying to revive worldgroup, and I ask some questions, and then go back to the vendor of worldgroup and ask who's name the old registration number is in, and it was still in mine.

Now, in April 2006, I start the BBS up as a telnet-only board, and I've averaged between 1 and 3 new user signups per day. Most of those people are probably looking to see if I have MajorMud. I don't yet, but a lot are sticking around to play LORD or read/write in the forums, a few people are playing mutants, a few are playing swords of chaos, a few playing farwest trivia, and some here and there scattered around various games...

I just recently added a door-game server, for the dos and win32 games as well. The only 2 games I don't have that I really want are evangelist wars (because it can't be registered any more) and Crossroads of the Elements (can't be registered any more, and there never was a Worldgroup NT version released.)

Now, I have 2 versions of LORD on the worldgroup server, one long-game which will hardly ever reset, and 1 tournament mode, and then like 7 or so variations of it on the dos door game server (star wars, mash, multi-igm, etc)... After this tournament is done with, I plan on also giving out prizes for each tournament game winner thereafter. Right now, we're just trying to recruit players.

We need the Trivia back!  And where are all the old forum members?!

Who knows.. With the price of gas and energy, people are probably busy scrounging or pulling double shifts to pay the bills, and then all of the wars going on around the world.

and summer time, beaches, storms..... summer camp, vacationing, and now getting ready to go back to school for some.....

with all of that stuff, not many people have the time or are in the mood for games :/

Heck, even I've slacked off playing games quite a bit... Just fire up the ol' xbox every once in awhile, but I still find myself coming to these forums frequently after many years..

I have no idea where the old forum members are, I tried to email everyone on the old board. Ok everyone, even if you are reading the board without posting, please register so we know you are there!
I wanna start trivia up as well, but I was waiting for more people to register. There's gotta be more than 20 people reading this.

I picked 6 hours, I think that's about how long I've gone in a single sitting. For some reason, playing Top Shop on the PS1 was taking that long...

Michael - August 9, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
Yikes - I'm the only one at 4 hours. I must be lame in comparison :(
You Guys, however, rock!
