I'm downloading the demo of Eternal Sonata today. Hopefully, it'll give me a chance to check it out and see if I'm going to buy it or not. Hopefully I'll check it out tonight...
Well, my impressions of eternal sonata so far, after playing the demo.
The graphics are great, very polished. I'm glad we're graduating from some of the gamecube era cel-shading..
Combat is pretty cool. It's sort of an action combat system. Each character has a meter/bar - it can be called a timer bar per each character's action, but depending on the action, it can go down faster than just standing still or running. That probably sounds a bit confusing.
Basically, the bar goes down while you go toward the enemy or if you're standing or whatever. You may get 10 or 20 attacks, or 2-3+ special attacks on an enemy before your turn is up.
Like many RPGs out today, you actually see the mobs before you fight them. Sometimes, you can run past them.
Did I say the graphics are great? Compared to games like enchanted arms, which are like 1st generation 360 rpgs, eternal sonata has a lot better graphics generally. I'm not going to say all of the pets from enchanted arms etc are going to be bad - some are pretty damn awesome looking, but the whole world, as well as the characters on sonata are just more polished. Everything looks good. If you look at the landscape of most of enchanted arms or even the main character, that's pretty much PS2 graphics. Enough about my quirks with enchanted arms.. back to Eternal Sonata... heh
There are a few bits of lag here and there. A lot of times when running around the world, the character would stop for a second or so and then start back.
The game also seems to lack much/any voiceovers.. It all seems to be text.
I would have liked the world to be a bit more open. Even though you sometimes have two different directions to go to, one always (so far) seems to be a dead end. Sometimes, there is a treasure chest one way, while the adventure onward is the other.
Storyline... this is what I'm usually the worst at.. I don't know the story. Don't really care to know the story... Don't have time to learn the story even if I wanted to lol.
Whether or not the game will be the same old same old or too repetitive remains to be seen. I did like what little I played, however. One thing that I really hope about this game is that it'll have different landscapes, instead of everything looking the same as in blue dragon, evolution on the dreamcast, etc.
I'm definately considering buying this one.
Sounds good. Who knew that composers could pull off such awesome chain attacks, eh?
I'd say that the full game will almost certainly have voice overs as well. Probably left them out in order to make the size of the demo smaller.
While I have eliminated getting Blue Dragon, I'm still very interested in Eternal Sonata and have almost decided to go ahead and pre-order it. The only other game I'm considering would be two worlds.
I've seen some newer screenshots and videos of two worlds, and it looks like they've improved graphics 300% compared to some videos released like 6+ months ago. The enemies look awesome. I think this game probably was inspired by obvlivion, but you can see there is an obvious different in the way you fight. It looks to be a more fast-action fighting style that is a lot easier to hit and kill the enemies (meaning you won't have to swing 1000 times to hit them,) but this may not be a good thing, as I see this as the game's weak point.
The creators are saying that the fighting style of reminiscent of Knights of the Old Republic and the world is reminiscent of Fallout. I can say that the fighting style isn't like knights of the old republic at all, because I've played and beaten KOTOR. So, I don't know how they got that.
Some people are saying that enemies never re-spawn. So, if that's true, and you want to just go out and level your character for the hell of it, you're out of luck. The fact that they call it an open world and the monsters never respawn is pretty much a contradiction in itself.
Can Two Worlds still be a good game, even with these two qualms about it? Just the graphical differences between what I first saw and what I'm seeing now says that the developers have worked hard on the game, to polish it. I'm hoping a demo will be on xbox live so that I can at least download and try it out before making any judgements.
