Got ripped off on ebay..$22 for Valkyrie Profile 2 and the seller never sent my game!

Malakai - June 14, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
That sucks. Were you able to get your money back? I know if you've sent a money order, ebay's insurance down payment cost you like $20 if they haven't went up yet. So, you'd only be able to get $2 back like that, but if you paid via paypal, then maybe you could to a chargeback.

Stopped by the TRU a few days ago, bought Infected for the PSP for nine bucks, Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA) for ten, and Art of Fighting Anthology (PS2) for fifteen. The first two are good (I'm really enjoying Infected, it's not usually my genre of choice but damn if it isn't funny as hell...), but Art of Fighting... I'm now remembering why I don't play that series very often...

The damn seller wrote me a hand written letter after a month saying he is going through a personal tragedy..hmm why couldnt he include the game or a refund in it! I paid through paypal and i think they charge 25 dollars for a refund, not sure...I filed a claim though. I need rpgs and have played almost all of em :)

I'm pretty sure that if you filed the claim through paypal as opposed to ebay, it doesn't cost you anything if they rule in your favor. There probably is a 40 or 60 day limit. So, a lot of people that are looking to rip people off will try to stall people by giving them sob stories, or keep saying the item is coming, etc.

I remember a long time ago, some one actually bid on one of my items. I kept getting excuses for not receiving the money, including his neighbor had bid on the item and not wanted to pay. I told him to send me the costs of putting the item on and I wouldn't file a claim against him. He then kept stalling again, and on the last day I could file a claim, I did, and within a few mins, he sent the fees via paypal.

Back then, he wouldn't have had to pay the fees, but just get a strike against him on his ebay account (2-3 strikes and ya get suspended)... But now, I think ebay is starting to inchworm closer to making bidders pay the fees when they don't want to pay for the item, and they probably should have years ago.

Don't let people use your accounts if you're not willing to pay for their purchases incase they change their minds.

Ebay use to be a wonderful place, but over the years, it has gotten worse for sellers.

I am sure a whole thread could be filled with Ebay pros and cons...I still like it though.

It sucks to hear about your Ebay bullshit. If you paid with Paypal I think you get it all back if they rule in your favor but I heard they can be assholes. Anyways, like Malaki says go through Paypal and try to get your money back before they stall you. They try to get you with the family emergency or personal emergency bullshit. He has time to mail you a letter but not the game or money back.... Very fishy.

Yeah, ebay is getting worse by the day. About a 1 1/2 months ago, I sold some cheap dos games on ebay, probably 8-10 (w/boxes) of them for $15, plus $10 s&h. Anyway, after about three weeks without receiving any emails or money, I e-mailed the buyer. She didn't reply.

I gave her several extra days, before filing a claim to get my fees back on ebay. About two days ago, she sends me a paypal payment and demands on how to package the items, as if they were worth their weight in gold. Let's see.. I'm on the east coast and have to ship these games to the west/pacific coast, which is about the most expensive place to ship items to in the US, and then tells me how to wrap this game and that game with bubblewrap and put peanuts in the box and this and that.

It'd probably cost me $7-$8 for the friggin' package material alone to do what she wanted, along with probably $8-$10 s&h for California, for a group of cheap dos games. Things that use to surprise me don't any more. People are meticulous maggots sometimes.

If I were that meticulous, I would not bid on items that didn't say "A+++ Mint, like-new, collector's condition" - These people make a fun experience into a terrible one.

Well, paypal found in my favor and refunded me the $22! Serves that guy right for not sending me my game due to family issues..geez he had no problem keeping my money though.
Finally something goes my way. The last two games I sold on ebay the buyers "lost" and paypal made me pay them back and let them keep the damn game. From now on I will use delivery confirmation as mandatory!
It is about time I get some justice too.

Most of the time, paypal goes in favor of the buyer, and many times, it's the sellers being ripped off. I've had my share of bad sellers in the past, but for the last two years or so, it's been bad buyers. I think many people are bidding on items, trying to get them free or to get both the item and an insurance payment on them. If a seller forgets tracking or insurance, then the seller will usually have to pay.

Here is another example of a shady buyer we had to deal with several years ago. We sold an atari 2600 system to someone, and they said it did not work. So, they sent it back, and we sent them yet another system. I believe strongly that they actually sent back a system they had that was messed up to begin with (we unfortunately didn't write down serial numbers back then)... Anyway, we forget to get delivery confirmation on the 2nd system, and then they filed a claim against us for not sending a system, and paypal ruled in their favor. They ended up getting two working atari systems, and we had to pay for them, not the buyer.

I sold a sega cd system and RCA A/V modded genesis awhile back. I had tested and played it several times before putting it on ebay. The system only went for like $10, without a power supply or any games etc. Well, got an email saying that the system didn't work and how the lady urgently needed to buy a sega cd system for her son's birthday. After several exchanges in e-mail, she hinted that she used a wrong power supply, maybe an NES one, which has reverse polarity (+/- reversed) and that would blow them up instantly.

I had delivery confirmation on the item, but not insurance, and unfortunately in the auction, I didn't put an "although tested and working, this item is as-is" warning. Ebay could have ruled either way, but knowing this was a shady deal, the only way I could get some gratification was to click offer a refund if seller sends back the item. This meant that she would at least have to pay shipping and handling back. Otherwise, it was possible that ebay would rule in her favor and then she wouldn't have to send the item back at all.

When it arrived, the sega genesis worked fine, but as I suspected, the sega cd system was dead, just as if she'd used the wrong power supply.

Unfortunately, the reason I knew the symptoms of the sega cd is because many years ago, I actually put a nintendo power supply on one and blew it up. It doesn't spark or smoke, just dies pretty much instantly, yet if you put an NES power supply on a genesis, it usually won't blow. It has better electrical protection.

As far as bad sellers, I remember buying my first transluscent blue playstation case. I had the mod chip already installed and thought that would be a great addition. They had some on ebay cheap, around $25 or so. I paid for the item and kept waiting and waiting. The seller kept stalling, and he was kind of like a con artist, trying to pull you in, and he pulled me in for probably 3 months, until the item finally was shipped. He flat out lied several times, saying the item had arrived that morning or was going to be arriving any day.

I ordered the rental version of bride of chucky on dvd, because it came out several weeks before it hit store shelves. Sent the seller a money order, specifying the item I ordered, and he sent it back to me, saying I didn't put the exact information he needed on it. I looked over what I had sent him and he could have easily found out, but he didn't even try.

I e-mailed him about it, and he said I never sent the money in the first place. When I gave him negative feedback for it, he remembered and said "he didn't put the correct information on the package," and then several weeks later, he e-mailed me asking if I wanted to complete the transaction, that he'd give me another chance. Keep in mind that by this time, the retail version had came out and I already bought it, for significantly less than the rental version.

I've had sellers go on vacation when they have items going off.. a lot of stories like that.

Many sellers want you to print their invoice out and send it to them. In many cases, I never had a printer to do that. Some times, their demands are unreasonable.

Anyway, more ebay stories to tell the grandkids eh? hehe.. glad you got your refund though!
