A couple months back I wrote about a great rpg called Arc the Lad Twlight of Spirits that could be found for the PS2 for under ten dollars. It was a great game with an excellent strategy battle system, deep plot, and excellent soundtrack.
The other week I went into Gamestop and found a great rpg called Bards Tale for PS2/XBOX for under ten dollars as well! It is a hilarious rpg that pokes fun at all the sterotypical Role Playing standards. It is also voiced by Cary Elwes(robin hood men in tights)
The Bards Tale is an action rpg. Your party consists of tunes or summons. You find them throughout the game and there are a wide variety to choose from. What stands out the most about this game is the humor.
Throughout the game, the Bard and the narrator argue with each other. The dialogue is hilarious..For example, he finds out he has to save a princess but his response is she better be rich and satisfy him in other ways!
Also, if he runs into a boss enemy he says, can we just fight now? There is no need for me to climb the tower..you're standing right here!
Lemme guess I need to find a secret key in 5 foreign lands!
The point is he makes fun of all the cliches while arguing with the narrator.
Bottom line is you could do worse with ten dollars then spend it on a funny action rpg.
I've got this for the XBox, and I agree, it's a hilarious send-up of a lot of RPG cliches, including the infamous "Killing rats in the basement" starting quest. Highly recommended at a price like that.
I really need to get this game. I heard it is hilarious!
